Those of us who were raised in broken homes, emotionally abusive households, and narcissistic parenting cannot thank you enough for this song! From Staind, Slipknot, to Godsmack, and Korn. You guys were my strength to cope until I was old enough to get out of that environment! Thanks again Staind, thanks again metal community. 🤘🏽🕯🤘🏽

Yes ma’am, many of us did and that’s why this music will ALWAYS have a special place in my life, no need to go into my story because it’s not unique….I’m glad I made something of myself though despite my childhood. Now as a nearly 40 year old fully disabled combat veteran I have a much different perspective. I knew I didn’t want kids and looking around at how F’d up our country is I’m even more glad I didn’t. I wouldn’t fit in with these idiots and their “parenting” style, my kid would’ve been getting spanked if and when they mess up. Plus I wouldn’t force religion on him because I’m an Atheist and my fiancé is a believer in a “god” or a “power” so we would’ve let the kid decide on their own when they were old enough instead of brainwashing them before they’ve had a chance to make up their own minds. I’m just glad I found a woman who felt the same as I did and that’s why we’ve been together for a decade, despite our struggles financially. We have fur babies and that’s PERFECT FOR US!!

Connor had had enough. After a horrendous day at work at ATCO, he was finally heading home. He was ready to relax and unwind from the day's events. The moment he stepped into the door, however, something unusual happened. Connor snapped and became uncontrollably angry. He stormed towards his girlfriend who had been sitting on the couch. He began screaming at her and then started punching her with powerful force, over and over again, as if he was possessed by some outside force. The people in the apartment complex started gathering around Connor's apartment and began chanting, “Punch that girl in the face until she gets COVID!” Connor had been driven to the brink of insanity by his work today and he felt like he was beyond the point of no return. He kept on repeating the same phrase to himself over and over again, “The silence gets us nowhere, that's way too far for me.” Not even his girlfriend's desperate plea for mercy and words of affirmation could make him stop. He was completely gone and felt like he was on the edge of an abyss. Finally, after what felt like hours, Connor stopped punching his girlfriend and started to laugh manically. His fans kept on chanting words of encouragement, “All these insults make me feel like I’m not a person.” Connor stood there, a broken version of himself, while his girlfriend curled up in the corner, completely terrified. He finally slowly walked away and left her there to recover from the trauma.

It’s wild how this song brings me back to when I was 16, listening to my mom and dad screaming at each other through the floor joists. Terrified/worried me, praying that they’d stick it out and keep the family together would put my headphones on, play this on repeat for hours until my ears were numb and I’d drift off to a different world. Things got much worse, but thank you Staind for giving me some temporary relief. 20 years later and brings me right back to that pain.

I have the same reaction to this song. It does bring me right back to the fear and anxiety that plagued my life. I can remember “waiting for them to come home from the bar drunk and fighting. I just got bullied at school all day and there was no food in the house to eat. That was a typical day in my childhood.” It’s amazing how fast and intense the feelings come right to the surface. The silence is what kills me I need someone here to help me But you don't know how to listen And let me make my decisions I sit here locked inside my head remembering everything you've said The silence gets us nowhere! Gets us nowhere way too fast! All your insults and your curses make me feel like I'm not a person And I feel like I am nothing but you made me so do something 'Cause I'm fucked up because you are Need attention, attention you couldn't give 'Cause I sit here locked inside my head Remembering everything you've said This silence get us nowhere! Gets us nowhere way to fast

"All your insults an curses make me feel like I'm not a person". That hit home. These people aren't "cry babies". Unless you've been through it, you don't get to say shit. Unless you were constantly told no one would want you that's why they were stuck raising you. Unless you were constantly belittled an demeaned an insulted until you felt you were no better than the dirt on the ground. Hell not even the dirt because according to them at least the dirt could something. You have no right. "Don't eat that you'll get fat and who will want a fat girl to love, no one. No one will want you want anyways because you're to tall, females aren't suppose to be tall. Can you do anything right? How stupid are you?" It isn't home after that. Its hell.

@@TheLaSirenaVarada Understanding isn't so much the issue as so much as now a days, is that most people can't grasp the simple emotion of sympathy. Not everyone was born into a family that loved them. Or was always there for them. Or bought them everything so they never actualy had to do anything to earn things themselves. It's "well since it never happened to me you don't have a reason to feel that way". You can never see what happens behind closed doors sometimes, but it's not hard to show a fellow human being a little bit of sympathy. But now a days, most people are so self absobed they give little to no f*cks about anyone but themselves.

My older brother used to blast this band on the way to school every day back in like 2001-2002. I remember thinking the band was whinny. My brother is a lot more sensitive than I am. I grew up in a very abusive household and bands like this spoke to my brother. I was angrier so I listened to other things. What I find interesting today is there's no music like this anymore.

I will forever feel fucked inside.. you see, I conn'd my dad 2 years ago for 2500$ .. I owed some drug dealer some money and was getting serious, i told my dad i was sick and doctors found cancer.. i lied, my dad being extremely smart found out after calling doctors and pharmacies That's how we stopped talking 8 months pass and um.. my sister calls me saying I know something is wrong with dad go by his house and check on him... so I do, and uh .. I could this horrible smell in his house.. when I got up to his room i found him dead, he had been dead for 4-5 days body was decomposing.. he didnt even look the same, I NEVER GOT TO SAY SORRY .. I hope my story can resonate with you somehow and see doesnt matter who the bigger person is.. just do it, put your pride away and talk to her... I was also diagnosed with thyroid cancer.. and it's well deserved Anyways hope you even read this.. peace yo.

My mom acts like shes my enemy, like she purposefully chooses her husband over me. Even after he smacked the shit outta her, and I fucked him up for her. She told the cops I didnt wanna press charges after his bitch ass threw a hammer at me, and threw my phone after grabbing it from my moms hands. Because I gave it to her, to call the cops. Now she lives with him at his house, that was built for him for free, because hes native (Pima). And she posts shit on facebook and makes it public, so I can see it because I denied her friend request. Because all she does is cause drama in my life, can you believe that shit? The women who gave birth to me, I have to worry about shit with my own "Mother".

When I was a teenager I used to play this song every time my parents stepped in my room. It was EXACTLY how I felt and I didn't know how to communicate. They ignored me for a while then played me a song. Basicly lyrics "get over it" repeated. That's cool. Turns out the cops were super interested in what I had to say and got me out of there. Years later this song brings me right back and I'm so glad I had it to try to reach out and ultimately realize it was a lost cause.

I'm picturing like some contraption that you rigged to the door to play the song when your door opened and another one to rewind the tape to the beginning. I'm sure it was probably on your computer or something and you just clicked the play button, but until told otherwise, I'm gonna picture the former scenario. The whole "cop" bit has me curious.

Necrovilegedon I hope you're wrong about the marking for life part. I haven't completely let go of the pain, but I have some days where I'm able to distract myself instead of every day being a nightmare. I don't think that part of us will ever leave completely, but it doesn't have to define who we are. When I was 26, I thanked my father before he passed away, for showing me everything not to do. He cried and asked for forgiveness. I told him that I loved him. He spent about 23 years getting his shit together before this point, after losing his kids and not having contact with us. I made the choice as an adult to spend a month with him on a road trip and get my own side of the story because I was tired of wondering who he really was from the horror stories I've heard. I didn't remember a lot of the things he was apologizing for until he would mention a certain detail and it would all come rushing back to me. Our road trip had ended after a month and I introduced him to my ex-fiancé at the time. He was really excited to be back in my life and excited to see me get married. About a week later I woke up from 5 missed calls from him. I told myself I'd call him back later. Later that day, his brother called me out of the blue and told me that my dad was in a coma (brain aneurysm rupture) and that I had power-of-attourney to either pull the plug or not. I signed my power over to my uncle and he ended up pulling the plug. I wish I had forgiven him sooner so we had more time together...but I also wished he would've been a better father to begin with. My mom was my entire world and passed away when I was 18. I'd rather not share any more info than that. I'll go numb if I talk about her. Anyway... The past is set in stone, but the way we view it is always changing.
