This week we're making our way back to the living room to start working on fixing the stained glass window that sadly shattered. I went thorough a solid week of silence after I broke the window however WE ARE GONNA FIX IT! I also decided to start working on the fireplace mantle to see what options we have. I truly cannot wait to select a paint color and get to painting.

Also you were SO lucky to find stained glass that looked so similar to the original.

Actually there is a long tradition of using these as little "altars" putting in a picture or sculpture of a saint or a cross; another thing that makes it look so early California/Spanish. But I like the idea of a perfect bouquet or a piece that just defines the room. Drew will find it!

Your instincts on the living room fireplace are "spot on" in my opinion. That chimney was embellished with a simple niche. The mantle took away from the streamline and smooth shape of that lovely fireplace. In my view, the niche was designed to be a place for ornamentation. No mantle necessary. Maybe the former owners wanted a mantle for hanging Christmas stockings (who knows). If that were the case, I would have rather seen pegs used. Anywho, I feel like you are honoring the person(s) who designed and built the fireplace.

Suggestion for you to ponder… First, amazing find of replacement glass for your broken stained glass panels! Love that you shared the name of the business as I’m in need of stained glass and now have a source!!! Suggestion to ponder is Spanish Revival exterior door shutters that can be shut and locked at night, on trips away from home, and during severe storms to protect your stained glass doors. Many homes of that period would have had shutters that could be closed yet still allow a breeze to flow through the home. The fireplace sans mantel is classically elegant! Really glad to see you make that choice. Hello to Justin! You work well together. So creative!

It would be interesting to see Drew and Macenna decorate for each other. Each one decorates a room or area in the other's new house. I would love to see that....pweety pweease!

Love 'no mantle'! Having a mantle competes with the beautiful alcove shelf, which is SO pretty. I'm sure the designer wanted the little alcove shelf to stand alone and be the focus. It's a beautiful fireplace and chimney Drew! ❤👍🏠

Great choice to have no mantle! Love it and love the lines of the fireplace! Good job being brave and tackling the stained glass. It looks wonderful. LONG LIVE THE STAINED GLASS DOORS! 😀

Drew, honestly, you are amazing, what a beautifully perfect repair of your stained glass. You are so resourceful! Perfect! And I'm with you on that fireplace without the mantle. Bring her back to her original Spanish look. So very pretty!

Mama always said, "Less is more." Very good call to go without a mantle at all over the fireplace. I feel it would compete with that beautiful architectural niche. I am sure you will find an incredibly unique and special piece to display there. ❤

My Lord, you were so lucky to have that store with the same type of glass. I couldn't believe when you said you had found that store in Pasadena, yet there that was, the almost same glass. AMAZING!

Those Batchelder tiles on the fireplace are everything! I love the original intent of the architect to highlight those and the Spanish architecture. I felt confident you would be able to match the stained glass, as that caramel color in what I had heard called “cathedral glass” has been around for decades, in fact back in the ‘70’s I had a lamp made out of that same glass. Love the direction you are taking with the wall color too Drew! Having so much fun watching you refresh this beautiful historic home!

Drew, you are such a lucky guy to find similar glass to fix the doors. And the MANTLE! Right choice to put this thing down. I cannot wait to see the final living room!
