I would love to see a video on how to add the lead border. That intimidates me but would make my pieces look cleaner. Thank you for your videos! I’ve learned a lot from you 💕🙏
Love the contrast! Inspiraional; I never use black glass b/c it’s so opaque. But against the vibrant green the contrast makes the green really pop. And I love the negative space when in direct sunlight. Nice job! 😁
I just finished my first stained glass work last night and it was not as good as I expected. I felt a bit frustrated indeed but your video absolutely encourages me and I’ll definitely gonna try more! Thank you for the brilliant videos, they are really helpful!!
I learnt how to build stained glass by watching as many RU-vid videos as I could, recently I watched a lot on how to patina, people apply it in various and different ways. They wipe it on, spray it on, even dip the piece in it (see How to use Stays Black patina for zinc) after trying then all I have found that liberally painting it on works best for me, but I have to disagree about the water, I do not remember the video that showed this, but I find getting the piece fully saturated with patina and then taking it to the sink and "shocking" it with a cold water rinse works best. Again there are many different ways to do this, just wanted to share what I have learnt works best for me.
That is how I do it Ron. Scrub the patina on with a toothbrush covering the piece and hit it with cold water. There is some reaction that takes place between the patina and cold water. Kind of like hardening metal.
How quickly are you putting on the patina? Both sides then cold water? Are you worried about stains on glass from patina? I've had glass get stained so I don't wait on cleaning it off.
@@StainedGlassDIY Depending on size of piece say 6” round sun catcher or smaller and not too many solder lines I will patina both sides and hit with cold water. If larger or a lot of solder lines than one side at a time. Each time rinsing off with cold water and dry off with towel. I haven’t had problem with stains.
thank you for your work, give me some advice, I'm in Italy and there are no such products, so is it okay to use it as a flux paste? I don't find it liquid, same speech once the soldering is finished to clean what can I use to remove the flux, before passing the black patina (which I can't find it on amazon italia too 🙄 thank you very much, and finally you need an antioxidant at the end of everything?
Trying my 1st project tonight. Having an issue with a section not accepting solder. Think I might have burnt the adhesive but don't know... Will go back at it tomorrow
Sometimes the surface of the copper foil (particularly if it's old) can be a bit dirty and/or oxidized, (as can lead or zinc came). Carefully rubbing the surface with some very fine wire wool before reapplying fresh flux may help fix the problem. Sometimes you end up patching with a carefully placed fresh piece of copper foil. Perseverance, patience and, above all, practice. Don't let it beat you! ;)
Hey there! I've learned so much from your videos. Thank you! I have been doing glass on and off for 2 years, mostly little ornaments. I've been commissioned to do a window corner which I'm really excited about, but want to make sure I'm providing the most structure possible. It's out of my comfort zone, but i want to learn. Can you walk me through what materials I need to add came to the outside? i/8 U came? what metal is best?
Just getting into leaded work myself. Zinc is stiff and is best for borders. Lead is soft and will flex over time depending on how large. You also have to stretch came before adding it on.
