I personally prefer stainless steel because it does not stain nor tarnish + durable unlike sterling silver but i'm not saying that it is not a good quality
I agree! However, pure silver (999), is in my opinion superior to both options. I know she mentioned it not being very durable, but I think this tends to be a misconception with pure metals like 24k gold, which is a softer metal - but i think when people hear 'soft' in terms of metal, they do not realize it still has durability (it is just more bendable/flexible) and is still hard to the touch. Pure silver tarnishes at a very slow rate, much slower than stainless steel or sterling silver. In my opinion, pure silver is kind of the cheaper version of white gold (NOT pure forms of gold aka 24k). Pure silver has less durability than white gold (more durability than pure 24k gold), but highly tarnish-resistant. The biggest downside to stainless steel jewelry is that it seems to be harder to work with or repair, as many jewelers will not touch stainless steel 😞 But I definitely recommend pure silver. I own pieces decades old that have just barely tarnished in its lifetime and are easily restored. They sparkle like new ✨ It is quite different from sterling silver, and much better too imo
I personally like stainless steel, to me is more durable more carefree and less expensive, but I don’t wear jewelry all the time only occasionally and very small pieces, thanks you answered questions I had
I think if youre on a budget and active (sports, a mom busy taking care of kids or a career woman and busy with household chores, outgoing) but wants to constantly elevate their looks without breaking the bank, wants to always update and build their collection, and carefree, I would go for stainless steel. And if I wanted to cherish a beautiful memory with a precious metal that I could wear constantly (and not much bothered updating their looks constantly), and pass it to someone else, then I would go for Sterling Silver. Both lifestyle works either on these metals, depending on your status, standards and budget!!
My mom was into sterling silver when i was younger but remember her saying it turned black alot and got rid of them..she pass away years ago..but i felt nostalgia silver kick in me suddenly..going to jeweler to check out silver but mom's dislike for silver hit me again..jewe😂suggested stainless steel..go home and research..and boy was i sold😊 got a polished stainless steel rope necklace and its just amazing👍 i know mom would be equally amazed since she loved CZ❤
I currently wear almost all Silver, I wear two silver chains with silver pendants and a steel chain with no pendant, four silver rings(three on my middle finger and one on my thumb) and of course my gold/silver tone watch.
I've owned stainless steel and sterling silver for years. The stainless steel never once tarnished...also the jewelry that i make, I use stainless steel...304 or 316..never had any piece tarnish. Just finding your comment about both metals tarnishing a bit off putting. Sterling has always tarnished...
What I meant is that stainless will tarnish if not properly looked after and not properly stored. Though quality of metal plays huge role , the poorer it is , the quicker it will tarnish . Such brands as Swarovski for example are known for its durability and hard-wearing . But even they will fade with time if exposed to direct sunlight for example when storing. Anyway , great thanks for your comment ! I hugely appreciate sharing your experience 🙂
Olga, I would like to ask you: I have a ring that was sold to me as being sterling silver, stamped 925. I would like to determine if it truly is sterling silver. I did the magnet test. There was ZERO attraction to the magnet. Do I still need another test to verify that it is indeed sterling silver? Bless you :)
hi Joyce, thank you for your question :) I wouldn't be bothered to try other method as sterling silver is always non magnetic . I believe your ring is real silver ring , hope it helps :)
My first piece of jewelry I bought was about a month ago, it was a stainless steel Movado with sapphire hybrid glass watch but came out to just under 1000. I thought it was sterling silver due to the price but I saw that it is actually stainless steel...Can stainless steel be expensive? Thank you.
Hi, it all depends on a brand . In case of Movado or Swarovski for example you mostly pay for brand. Their jewellery is priced based on brand reputation , rather then metal price. So my answer to your question is yes , it can be expensive if sourced from a very reputable high end brand.
I love accessories but I can't have cheap ones them so I learn to love silver because it's more affordable than gold and not as hard to get like platinum in my place. It have more styles in a lower price. As a person who wore sterling silver because I have no other choice so I love them, because I'm so Allergic to nickel, and when I wore a stainless steel it made my finger swollen up not just for days but almost a week with visible white mark like a ring so no more.
Hai.. can you share, how about which one is more safe for sensitive skin? Which one is safer for skin? Stainless steel or sterling silver? Thankssss before :)
depends on brand you chose and what exactly did you buy. high price does not always indicate high quality same as low price doesn't necessarily indicate low quality, hope it helps
I have both and I liked silver at first but it tarnish quickly on my skin and needed constantly cleaning, but with 316 stainless steel jewelry that's highly polished it looks like white gold I have Russell Simmons collection highly polished stainless steel jewelry for years and the polish still remains it never tarnish or faded or changed colors and I clean it with ajax lemon dish washing liquid as you would do spoons and forks by hand and I dry off using a paper towel. The other way I clean it is with aluminum foil, a teaspoon of table salt and 1 teaspoon of arm and hammer baking soda and enough hot water to cover the jewelry I let it sit for 3 minutes after stirring up the mixture. There's videos on this cleaning method.
@@ArgentAurum What is your opinion on Tarn-x? I heard it's not good for your silver, but I absolutely love it. I'm male, so I'm only buying you know like figaro chains for 50-60 dollars max so I don't care if it ruins it. Tarn-X to me is an absolute miracle. What do you think?
I never tried tarn x, but read same reviews. though it states its formulated for sterling silver etc. If you want to give it a try just do a test application first and see the reaction, if its safe i would go ahead with that
Stainless steel jewelry are nice if you get a ring or a bracelet with diamonds.. because it's not as much if its gold or silver. Titanium jewelry is very nice, You can get these jewelry in gold rose, gold, black carbon , silver red ect. Now days SS Titanium and Tuscan jewelry is the thing because its cheaper and nice looking.. I have all five metal..

I can not advise about chinese suppliers as I personally do not import from China . But if I were you I would check first Alibaba, would buy few samples from various suppliers and definitely would travel to China to meet suppliers personally. I met all my suppliers in person . I know it could be cost effective , but in the long run will give you peace of mind re quality of jewellery you bulk buy. hope it helps
The person who is explaining the differences, should be wearing examples of her stainless steal jewelry. For my self I think I would prefer stainless steal. Alway show examples of some of you more interesting examples of jewelry in every opportunity.
Thank you for your comment. I do not own stainless jewellery, but it’s a good idea to demonstrate jewellery when talking about it, so may be next time I borrow from my daughter . Thank you for the idea. As for me I do prefer silver and gold , though am not saying that stainless is not worth it . By the end of the day it’s a matter of everyone’s personal choice.
Hi , if it’s says its stainless steel I guess it’s stainless . Silver is kind of misleading here and most likely refers just to colour of the chain , I wouldn’t take it into consideration .
Stainless steel may be heavier, but the difference is minimal.....but it's also less likely to break. I loved silver chains, but I only like them when they look new. Stainless steellooks new for a longer time, it's cheaper, it's even shiner, for the most part. Stainless steel is the way of the future, and it's only going to get better. I wanted to to say I liked silver more, even when I spent hundreds on it through the years, but stainless steel is better.
@@ArgentAurum I kind of realized after I wrote that, that nothing compares to silver when it's new lol too bad they can't figure out a way to really stop tarnishing :(. I like stainless steel but you are right I realized, it will never shine like silver does when silver is new and polished.
@@vision821k4It's actually quite easy to clean silver and restore it to how it looked new. When the stainless steel eventually does rust or tarnish, it'll be harder to clean
