In America this is a 3way switch in EU it's a 2way switch it's same concept different slang or terminology. Both names control one or more lights from 2 different locations. A 4way switch u can control lights from 3 different locations and u have (2) 3way switches and a (1) 4way switch involved and controls as many light as u can put on circuit like a 3way system.
In this connection, to turn ON the light both the switches should be in same position(either ON or OFF). But if you connect the wires diagonally then to turn ON the light the switches should be in opposite positions(when one switch is ON other should be OFF and vice versa).

@@NigelM18 🤣😂 The National Electrical Code (NEC) made it a requirement to use the neutral wire 10 years ago. But before then electricians was wiring three ways like this. They just you to cap the white off.
That is a stupid. You have to bring a wire from the power source and the switch to the light. Why wouldn't you just connect the switches with a 3 wire, then only connect the light from one switch
