Really nice job with this! I think this is the best playthrough on your channel so far. Really clear and smooth, definitely a game I’ve added to my wanted list. :)
This reminds me an awful lot of Avalon Hill's old game "Turning Point: Stalingrad"; almost as-if it were redone as a solo game. Very interesting... Thanks for sharing.
@@HissyCat I have TP:S and it's very interactive and emphasizes timing, it's at lower scale -mostly battalions as units and day turns divided in day and night impulses. Consequently, it's practical to play mostly the first week, the whole city battle would take a lot (and playing for October needs some expansion counters).
Great looking game, similar but no less enjoyable than Stalingrad Verdun on the Volga. If anyone is interested in an incredible background to this battle look up TIK Battle storm stalingrad. Brilliant series! Very detailed
A nice play through! I ordered this game a couple of weeks ago; anything Stalingrad gets my attention! A game I do have that has many of the same mechanics but is perhaps more streamlined and elegant is Last Stand Games: Stalingrad: Verdun on the Volga. Not the easiest game to get your hands on and rather expensive at that, but for what what it's worth -- like Stuka Joe -- I highly recommend it! Very solo-able, too!
Hi Copyist7, thank you for watching and the subscribing to the channel. It’s a fun game, easy to learn. I’ll have to hunt down a copy of Stalingrad: Verdun on the Volga. Sounds like a game o would enjoy. Thanks for the suggestion.
Yeah, Hissy Cat Studio, all you wargame reviewer/play-throughers are great (and have cost me a lot of money -- totally worth it!) so keep up the good work! As a final suggestion, you might check out Stuka Joe's play-through of Stalingrad: Verdun on the Volga (see: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CKgJWiUFJjU.html ). As he shows, the appointed main unit on each side loses a step when engaged in a battle no matter the outcome (which I think also happened once in your playthrough of 'AdvanceOTV' via a card draw.) To me, this mechanic really represents the attritional aspect of the battle really well. Not having received my copy of the Revolution game yet, but battles in 'AdvanceOTV' seem pretty categoric; whereas, 'VerdunOTV' seems much more of a grind, as it most certainly was in real life! Still, will reserve my judgement until I get and play the other game. All good!
@@HissyCat A final caveat, then I'll leave you in peace (besides, Vuco Simulations Task Force game just arrived and I'm sitting here drooling! Golly, they put out intriguing, wonderful looking products, eh!) Unless you can find a cheap second hand copy (Noble Knight has it for a staggering $195USD!!!!), perhaps the two area-impulse games might be too similar to worry about??? Anyway, check out Stuka Joe -- he does such a brilliant, entertaining job! -- and decide for yourself! All the best!😁
@@Copyist7 I don't mind your comments. =) Ouch $195 is a bit rich for my blood currently, but can you ever have too may Stalingrad games... i think not...lol I have Vuca's Bismarck game... BEAUTIFUL.
Components arrived in port in California this week. Assuming everything was printed correctly game assembly and shipping should begin in the next week or two.
@@HissyCat Arabulbulian should launch his own channel or at least try to record one of his own sessions, and he will see how hard it is to exclude minor errors. He has made similair comments to this on other playthrough videos for the same game. See the player aid" video etc.. :P What some people do not get is that there is a big difference between a "Playthrough" video and a "Learn to play" video. Playthrough videos are great for when you just want to watch someone play, or you want to get a general idea of how the game flows. It's normal to make some misstakes when you play, everyone does it. The only difference is that we got hundreds of thousands of people watching over our shoulder :P and to arab: it's ok to point out misstakes (I encourage it, so other people don't copy those misstakes that I make in my videos), but one can do it in a more polite manner. Cheers
Hi my friend, thank you for the comment and your support, it is very much appreciated. Your point about play throughs and learn to play is spot on, but alas we both know this is the case and yet we and others still enter the pool with no lifeguards… lol 😂 P.s. I make some really big errors at times. =}
