Great advice for stamp collectors! I use those black stock cards all the time. The stock cards with 10 rows are the best as you can fit a full reconstruction on just 2 stockcards, or 1 double sided card since reconstructions are generally made up of 20 rows and 12 columns

neat episode, only hitch you released it on March 19, as you are quite a number of hours behind us, as we have marched into March 20 here :) btw, old school hobby you say, but that is what keeps us young, and also connected and making friends around the world, learning through stamps, and cultures through these fascinating pieces of paper and from wonderful people we come across here, and other social media as well :)

Great video as usual, yet for me stamp identifier app is a must as when İ first started coming across stamps İ had no idea that they had their space in an catalogue and hell no I would not be spending money on a catalogue and could never know actually I can find catalogues at the library. So the stamp identifier tought me alot, helped me understand differences on details- perferations, value changes or overprints…

Do you have a favourite stamp identifier app? Thanks for the positive comment

I really enjoyed this video. That it was so clear and direct, and showed a lot of accessible breadth. I've seen stamps released in my country for years that have caught my interest but I never took the plunge as I didn't know what I needed to store them and handle them. I've been looking into it for the past few days and this is an amazing summation. I've also encountered a lot of doom and gloom about young people not being into philately. I'm no longer young but your point about the art is great. Anime, musicians, etc. especially in modern stamps, and not old pictures of kings and queens. When I was a little bit younger there was a release here of Sonic and Mario stamps, and I regret not picking them up at the time (better late than never?) With things like film photography and vinyl records coming back into fashion, often for the aesthetics and artistic side, I can imagine a lot of younger people finding merit in stamps. Or on old letters, with addresses and stamps, in thrift stores that have a story to them!

I really appreciate the kind words and feedback. I really do think you can find almost any topic on stamps these days and can be an inexpensive hobby. Where ever you are from. I am sure there are places to get stamps or have them delivered from online. Thanks for watching

Really enjoyed this educational video, Rob. I still hope to start a small stamp collection soon. I've missed a few episodes. My mother had emergency surgery Sunday night and will be transferred for possible rehab tomorrow. I'm exhausted but I'll be checking in for more videos as usual.

Very good video for a stamp collector starting out, and also prompting someone to start to collect stamps. Thanks Rob! I enjoyed it. A little bit of critique: when soaking off stamps, one should preferably not manually separate them or pull them off the paper, but rather let the stamp separate from the paper by itself, before removing it from the water. Those that do not separate by themselves in time, one can pull off, but extremely carefully not to damage the stamps. Also, soaking stamps off from paper will always work in water, except for some self adhesive stamps (because their gum is not water soluble) (e.g. definitely self adhesive stamps from the USA), and some of the very old stamps the ink of the stamp is fugitive and the ink may wash off. These stamps must not be taken off with water. ... Sorry, I don't want to be pedantic, and there are many ways to get the stamps off paper, but this is just what I learned so far. 🙂

It is great advice and perhaps my explanation when I talked about other agents was not as clear as I intended but that is why the comment fields are great for adding more information. Thank you so much.

Water works well on almost all stamps. Good Gone and others works fast and no curls

there is a no no in collecting- HINGES in general. Is there a theme/topic that is NOT on stamps?
@thatdadguy1974
@thatdadguy1974 5 месяцев назад
I am sure you could get real specific and not find a stamp for it but themes I guess should be more broad in nature. Thank you
