Let me check, I had to do so a few times and yes form some reason things went wacky though my original files were fine, but they have been compressed and I no longer have access, my apologies. I will try to find the stamps and do a results!
I have done that before! But never heard of using tape as a hinge! I use about a drop of gain in a gallon of water to try to clean. Works great and the stamps smells good.
The new stamps with the auto stick glue are very difficult to remove. Also recently tried soaking some stamps covered in packing tape with no luck. Ended up in the trash. Next time I will try using soap or alcohol.
I am collecting Revenue stamps may be you may talk about the charity stamps airmail Revenue and other types on the next episode of the series. It took me a while to come across those stamps and was amazed the amount of stamps used for fiscal reasons😅
Interesting experiment! I've had some stamps with this issue from cheap, old hinges (1960's era approvals) and threw them out after a soapy bath. I'm curious, did the 'fix' affect the colour of the stamps at all? The testers seemed pale to begin with so I'm not sure.
Thanks! A method and chemicals to keep in mind to try and clean up stains on stamps. I will always be afraid that the ink of the stamp or cancel might be damaged, but as you said, if the stamp is so badly stained that one will throw it away, it can do no harm to try and clean it up. ... Maybe you can check the video, Stamp Sleuth? The video froze before you could give the results. So the results were never shown.
Aw looking at those stamps is kind of sad 😢 I almost used tape on mine too. Good thing someone with more experience firmly yet politely told me not to 😅 How were the results? (Like someone else mentioned, around 14:19 the video stopped for me too just fyi, so I didn't see the end results.)
Unfortunately on some of the old stamps because of the printing soaking and using chemicals will damage the ink. I purchased some boxes from an estate sale and got one album like this and one album with the old style clear mounts from the 50's and 60's .The one with the mounts was a more expensive album Scott's specialized and the mounts did damage a couple stamps . It did more damage to the album pages which is unfortunate but nothing that can be done.
I wouldn't use anything more than a dishwashing detergent with a degreaser though.An alcohol with 90% or more will help to remove the stain from some of the less damaged stamps.
I see those albums all the time, I never could get it, I collected stamps when I was 10 years old, ten cents for one thousand Dennison hinges, why use tape? Anyway, I use a chemical called Bestine to remove adhesives, works great, won't remove postmarks, stain or damage anything. Figure those stains are because the tape is not acid free, destroys the stamp, shame!
