Hello, My Momma was born and raised in the Smokey Mountains area where her Daddy(My Grandpa) worked. She went to school in Bryson City. We have LOTS of family history in Western NC. I really enjoyed watching your video. I just bought some alcohol markers, I will be trying this technique for sure.

@@KarensBlueRidgeStamping Near Asheville, no it must be a little bit further yet? Have you ever been to the Farmers Market in Asheville? I LOVE IT and could spend hours there. I have several family members there also. My Momma's eldest sister moved there and her and my Uncle raised their children there.

@@pattiestarzynski I’m about another 80 miles east of Asheville. I’m in the foothills of the mountains. I’ve been there many times though. I used to have a season pass to Biltmore. My grandparents were from Chimney Rock and Gerton, so I used to spend a lot of time up that way. I love it!

This the first video I have seen from you. Bravo! I love that you're organized and not a hot mess. I've seen some videos with presenters that needed to locate the adhesive for heaven's sake! A novice paper crafter knows to get the adhesive out when making a card/project! I wonder sometimes if some of the presenters know how to edit their videos to cut out that kind of junk, or at least use the fast forward feature, so as to not waste the viewer's time... Rant over. Second, your delivery was clear, and instructions were easy to follow. Finally, the cards were stunning. I hope to see more from you. I became a subscriber.

@KarensBlueRidgeStamping
@KarensBlueRidgeStamping 3 года назад
Wonderful! Yes, a few other viewers mentioned that the higher alcohol content might prevent so much curling. I actually bought some, but quickly realized I needed more ventilation. I’ll try this again when the pollen settles down and I can open some windows. I don’t think outside will work, as heat and sunlight will probably dry the alcohol too fast to get the desired effect. Thanks for sharing!

It’s been suggested that if you use at least 90% alcohol the curling is not as bad!
@KarensBlueRidgeStamping
@KarensBlueRidgeStamping 3 года назад
Thanks, Barbara! I saw others using the 90%, but I didn’t know why. As I mentioned, I used the regular alcohol, and it does have a couple of advantages: people can try the technique and decide if they like the look before buying the higher percentage alcohol, and the fumes are not as strong. I later bought the 90%, and when it says to be in a well-ventilated area, they really mean it! Someone else also suggested taping the edges of the vellum, and I think that’s good to try, too. If taping, I recommend cutting the vellum a little large to allow for trimming when dry. Thanks for the comment!

I’ve tried this technique, and thanks to your excellent instructions I got great results! I also did some gold gilding to make some "veins" using liquid glue. My vellum didn’t curl at all and wonder why? Thank you!
@KarensBlueRidgeStamping
@KarensBlueRidgeStamping 3 года назад
Hmmm. Don’t know why it didn’t curl, but it could have been different vellum, different solution of alcohol, less saturation, or just about anything! Congratulations though! Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the comment. :-)
@evelynhansen6370
@evelynhansen6370 Год назад
You didn’t mention the % of alcohol you used. I find there is much less curling if you use 90% strength alcohol for this process.
@KarensBlueRidgeStamping
@KarensBlueRidgeStamping Год назад
When I made the video, I was using regular alcohol, which I believe is around 70 percent. A few people mentioned that I should try 90% alcohol, so I bought some. It works really well to reduce the curling. Thank you for reminding us all. One word of caution, though: The higher concentration of alcohol is very strong! Everyone should exercise great care to have a well-ventilated area when using the alcohol. And then have a lot of fun!!

@@craftbutterfly6252 I spoke with Demo Support about the weight of Stampin Up’s vellum paper. There is no specific weight given, except a description of medium weight. I can attest that it is very sturdy and holds up well when wet. Wish I could be more definitive, but that’s all I could get. I can say that I’ve seen other vellum that is much, much thinner! I hope you’ll try the Stampin Up vellum to see if you like it.

Could you not use removable adhesive on the reverse of the velum to help with the curling . Lovely card
@KarensBlueRidgeStamping
@KarensBlueRidgeStamping 3 года назад
Hi, Angela. Thanks for the question - and the compliment. I'm not sure that removable adhesive would be strong enough, and I also wonder whether the wet alcohol would simply dissolve it as it soaks through the vellum. Someone else suggested taping the edges down to another surface, and that might work. I'm going to continue working with this over time to see whether or not there are other solutions. Thanks for visiting! Enjoy your crafting!

How did you make that glue holder?
@KarensBlueRidgeStamping
@KarensBlueRidgeStamping 2 года назад
I found a thick plastic cup, and filled it with melted hot glue deep enough to place the green glue lid in about halfway. As the hot glue started to set, but was still pliable, I pushed the green glue lid down into the cup and held it there for a while until it started to cure and did not fall over. Then I left it overnight to harden. Then you just screw the glue bottle into the lid, and you’re all set. TWO SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: Find a cup that won’t break or shatter when filled with the hot glue. Be sure not to get your fingers or hands in the melted hot glue. It would definitely stick to your skin and give you a nasty burn. You might want to wear an oven glove while you’re working with the pool of hot glue. Good luck with it!
