I grew up Mormon and this episode is scary accurate. EVERYTHING IS TRUE, the rice krispy squares, the family home evenings, the obnoxious niceness... ALL OF IT

Mormons: “Just trust me bro”.

The way the mormon family sort of... DETONATED into the house is the most accurate thing of all.

I was raised LDS and this is one of the most accurate portrayals of Mormon people I've seen. The extreme niceness, the tolerance, and even the fact that they all kind of storm into your house at once is pretty accurate.

I love how randy was agreeing to stan's point he made to that family. It had me dying.

What I like most about this episode is how respectful it is about Mormons as people. Sure, it makes fun of the religion, but it never portrays Mormons themselves in a bad light.

I love how South Park mocks everyone equally.

When I was in college last year, a couple of Mormon kids were hanging out on the street in front of my dorm, and they started walking with me and my roommate as we were headed home, telling us about the wonders of Mormonism. We tried politely to tell them we weren’t interested, but they were persistent, telling us to check out some website, so we shook them off by telling them we were Amish transfer students and had no access to technology.

I love how this didn’t turn into that tired old trope of “behind the curtains of a religious family” where they just turn mean and unhappy after the character “debunks” their beliefs, in the end they are a genuinely happy family who doesn’t hold any prejudice against other religions.

And yet Mormons get into Heaven in the South Park universe.

I've actually had them show up at my house. I invited them in, said something to the effect of "So let me make sure I have this right..." and then gave them all of the information I learned from this episode. Come to find out that it's actually spot on...so much so that they seem shocked that I knew as much as I did. It really is exactly what they think happened. My brain hurts just knowing that's possible.

Matt Stone and Trey Parker are geniuses with comedy!!!

I've met alot of Mormons. Almost everyone of them was incredibly competent, intelligent, hard working, helpful and nice, but their religion makes no sense. I even tried going to their services and reading the book of Norman.

Bro this is so accurate! In seminary Lucy Harris was portrayed as this evil women who was the one manipulating Martin and going against god. But she was actually just a smart woman. Fun fact, Martin Harries switched religions very very frequently, going in and out of Mormonism along with other Christian sects. Was very gullible.

I remember watching this episode way back then and absolutely losing it at the "smart smart smart smart smart" part, It was such a reveal they were calling the whole thing dumb from the beggining hahaha.

You can tell that Stan gets his common sense traits from his mother and not his father.

This episode makes more sense than all the years I lived in Utah.

2 very nice Mormons knocked at my door once. My father opened and listened to them. When they were done, he told them he'd convert if he could get a free trip to Canada...

My ex friend is a Mormon. We fell out over a year ago. But her family are really like the family in this episode. They are so kind and generous. The first time I met the parents. They made me dinner when I unexpectedly turned up to surprisemy mate(sort of dating at the time). I remember about a week earlier. I was with another friend and he asked if I go round for dinner would I prey with them at meal time. I said no f**King way as I was an atheist back then. But they spoke to me and said if I could just bell my head while they say grace they would really appreciate it. I was so taking back and surprised. There kindness even got me to say amen at the end. As I really liked these people from the first second I met them and wanted to respect them. This one Christmas they put all there money they was saving for christmas shopping in a pot. And they gave it to charity. And volunteered feeding the homeless on Christmas day. They are strange people to me. But that's not a bad thing. I think there strange as most people in the world are ugly and hateful. But i never felt like that with the mormons. I like to think I learned stuff from them and I am a better human being for it.

I was never a Mormon, but I’ve always had Mormon friends that have invited me to these types of events. This shit is so accurate!

i think the most insane part of all of this is that the south park writers aren’t really exaggerating anything. this is real shit that they really believe, and the whole thing about being weirdly nice is also true. i’d know, i was raised mormon

This is actually my experience with mormons. I don’t agree with mormonism/religion in general, but they are 99% of the time very kind and helpful, and are extremely tolerant of every other lifestyle/religion. I don’t think they are true, but I don’t think they are bad either.

The origin of The Book of Mormon Broadway Musical

I saw this episode when I was a kid, I'd never heard of Mormonism before then. This episode left young me with the message I think Matt and Trey intended: Yeah, Mormonism doesn't really make sense, but neither does alienating people over having different beliefs.

as a Mormon with 4 other siblings, yes, this is accurate.

South Park isn’t my cup of tea, but it has its moments. This is one of them.

I had a good experience with Mormons. When talking to some of them for a college project I asked what they thought about sp and the musical and they were delighted and commented that it doesn't paint them in a bad light overall and that there is no such thing as bad publicity.

Ive seen some people like that in uni, they r always so positive to a point where it became creepy.

Stan's rant starts off pretty good, questioning and poking holes into a story. The problem is when he directly attacks the family for their personality. That's why the ending of the episode is so satisfying

In my town we have a decent Mormon population and let me tell you they are unsettilingly friendly. I've never met anyone so upbeat and "Let's go!" attitude about everything as the Mormons. They're fun to hang around with but it still gives off that eerie feeling.

1:46 is probably the biggest laugh South Park ever got out of me.

as a Latter Day Saint, this episode made me cackle laughing. The typical stereotypes and usual arguments are what make it funny but, the fact that the creators had enough respect to respect the people and the church is really what stood out to me. Sure they poke fun at the religion but the respect is what stands out to me the most.

I am ashamed to say that I believed all this crap until I was 37 but, I am lucky to be out for the last three years. This episode rocks.

The truth is, I don't care if Joseph Smith made it all up, because what the church teaches now is loving your family, being nice and helping people. And even though people in this town might think that's stupid, I still choose to believe in it. All I ever did was try to be your friend, Stan, but you're so high and mighty you couldn't look past my religion and just be my friend back. You've got a lot of growing up to do, buddy. Suck my balls."

If Joseph Smith got everything right he would have founded 'The Morons'.

This makes me laugh all the time when Stans snaps at Gary's family and when they leave Stan's house, they get excited and want to have a water balloon fight. 🤣

What I love about this episode is the fact Gary had the perfect counter to Stans points later on. "Maybe us Mormons do believe in crazy stories that make absolutely make no sense, and maybe Joseph Smith did make it all up, but I have a great life and a great family and I have the book of Mormon to thank for that. The truth is I don't care if Joseph Smith made it all up, because what the church teaches now is loving your family, being nice and helping people." "You're so high and mighty you couldn't look past my religion and just be my friend back." People who attack religion should really pay attention to that.

I remember my company sending me to Utah for awhile in the 90’s. My arrival tripled the black population and I made a lot of cars run stop signs.

I wish you included the ending. I don't know much about Mormonism, but as someone who does not take any religion literally but accepts it as stories to make one a better person, I think Matt and Trey did more to help it than hurt it with this episode.

I grew up around a lot of Mormons and some of my best friends are Mormon. Even my buddy is coming back from his 2 year mission trip soon. They’re usually some of the most friendly and amazing families. They get shit on so hard but take it on the chin. They have no ego and are always open to conversation with anyone. Genuinely glad I’ve gotten to be around them. The Mormon families in texas I know weren’t so overly nice though. But yeah this is pretty accurate. Also they are amazing cooks

One of my childhood best friends was Mormon. She had 5 siblings and her mom was on her third marriage (previous husbands were physically abusive) After a few years we were no longer allowed to see eachother because I hadn't converted...Not all Mormon families are perfect. On the bright side several years ago two random Mormon guys came up to me in the middle of an Arizona summer and unpacked my moving truck ^_^

Honestly, the world could use more people like the Mormons here 😂
