What you are listening to is the 11th take... they blew the first ten because the musicians, who were the same Hollywood studio cats who worked on the real Dragnet radio show, hadn't seen the script before the session and were laughing so hard they couldn't pucker up to blow their trumpets.
I had this record when I was a kid. I thought it was hilarious and I played it so many times I wore it out. My friends didn't get it though and thought I was kinda "strange" listening to this. But I loved it! RIP Stan! You made our journey through this life a little easier and a lot more humorous!
How could you NOT get this? This was Hysterical! The first time I heard this was 1977. I was 12 years old. I laughed so hard I cried. This was THE BEST COMEDY.
What a blast from the past. My dad had a cassette with this & a bunch of others like the banana boat song & a few others. It's been years since I heard this but I know all the words.
These sketches are appreciable even more if one “gets” Dragnet and cop dramas in general. I looked up dumdum shells and despite the innocuous name they’re gruesome bullets. A variation of dumdum shells is hollow point bullets; in the movie MAGNUM FORCE the use of hollow point bullets to beat ballistics tracing is a crucial plot point
RIP Stan Freberg: "This is the woods. My name is Wednesday, I work out of homicide. Monday, February the second, 10:22 am: I bumped into Chicken Licken; told me the sky was fallin'. I booked her on a 614. Turned her over to the psychiatrist. Then, a call came in on a 503. When I was on my way to the 503, a 618 came in; I added up the 614, the 503 and the 618, got 1,735. I handed in my paper to the Chief, he corrected it, gave me 100%, patted me on the head, told me I was a good cop."
@@cliffwheeler7357 it actually sharply increases the odds of people who are searching RU-vid - or even Google - knowing only the dialogue, of finding the video.
A commenter who is enjoying George and the Dragon recommended this to us. So I thought that I would check it out. More great fun. Thanks for sharing💞 Happy Saint Andrew's Day 🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴 🥰🇯🇲🏴🕊️🔥✝️
My father bought this when It first came out. I think I was about 4yrs. The very first time I heard it, it scared the crap out of me because I thought they were coming to arrest my "grandma". She was such a cranky old bag I was disappointed when they didn't come for her. Thank You so much for playing this!!!
Haven't heard this in years. I assume this was the flip-side to "St.George and the Dragonette?" Both brilliant! Gonna have to find me some Stan Freberg old time radio shows on this rainy afternoon.
My dad use to put this record on some of his Jukebox locations. It was very popular as a Spoof of Little Red Riding Hood Story. Stan Freberg was great at doing knock off's of Popular Kid's Tales with the Dragnet Theme behind it. The B side of this 45 was ST. George and the Dragonet which some think was better than this Spoof....
steve matz Steve - Had completely forgotten about about the "B" side. And although I disagree as to it being the better track, it still was hilarious. Thanks for jogging my memory!
Brilliant spoof of Dragnet. It reminds me of Rocky and Bullwinkle's "Fractured Fairy Tales" segment. In fact, I think some of the same voice artists may have been involved.
God bless Stan Freberg: he was ahead of his time, and never failed to make me laugh whilst listening to my parents comedy records. Little Blue Riding Hood: "But, Grandma, what a big subpeona you have in your pocket." Wednesday: "All the better to serve you with."
Alaskagal49 Blue: Humph! A cop. I should have known. Cop: Known what, ma'am? Blue: You look nothing like my Grandma. You forgot about the mustache. Cop: But I don't have a mustache. Blue: I know...but Grandma does.
While Lawrence Welk wasn't appreciative of Stan poking fun of him on "Wun'nerful, Wun'nerful", Jack Webb actually loved the "Dragnet" take offs, and had a real sense of humor about Stan's parodies, despite the stiff and straight TV personality Jack had. He said to Stan after "Christmas Dragnet" made the charts, "Stan, thanks for keeping my show #1 on TV ratings."
That's because she 'is' Tweety's Dwanny (Granny). June Foray had a long career as a voice actress, in radio shows, advertisements, cartoons, records, even talking toys. I've long been a fan of this lovely lady. Sadly, we lost her in 2017, just before her 100th birthday. I remember her from old radio shows, records, and commercials, and as the voice of Witch Hazel (for Disney, and for Warner Bros.), Granny, Rocky the Flying Squirrel, Natasha Fatale, Nell (Dudley Doright's girlfriend), Ursula (George of the Jungle's girlfriend), Cindy Lou Who (the little Who girl who asks the Grinch, dressed as Santa, why he is taking their Christmas tree), Knothead and Splinter (Woody Woodpecker's nephew and niece), Chatty Cathy (Mattel's talking doll), Talky Tina (the evil doll in Twilight Zone episode 'Living Doll'), the Grandmother in 'Mulan', Magica (DuckTales). You can also hear Miss Foray in video games and tv show voiceovers. RIP, gentle Soul, and thank you for the magic and memories.
Box of dumdum shells.... nothing suspicious here. LOLOLOL incredible. ... What a big sopena you have in your pocket....please.. somebody hold me tight before i fall off my chair.
I don't know if Little Blue Riding Hood was as big a hit as St. George and the Dragonet, but our local radio stations played the heck outta both routines, much to our delight.
Not the St.George parody, still funny.I once came up with my own version of Little Red Riding Hood,a McCarthyistic version where she was a Communist spy,& the wolf turnther in I should have written it down.
