Your dad was a unique genius. I can listen to his stuff over and over, and it never pales. And the Banquet turkey dinner ad is one of the funniest things ever made.
This is for you, Mr. Donavan Freberg: I just have to tell you that I grew up loving your dad’s wonderful humor and even once based a class assignment on this hilarious werewolf story. Yes, it does sound rather quaint now, but hey, at least it was entertainment for everyone that embarrassed or shocked no one, which cannot be said of current “humor.” I also loved his Abominable Snowman and The United States of America record album (and still own it, I might add), and White Christmas, which I have also kept all these years on a 45 rpm record. He was an under-appreciated genius, I think. My brother and I (yes, we definitely fall in the “Freberg Fans, Ancient” category) for commenting here so I could share this with you. Thanks for your time.
I listened to the Madison Avenue Werewolf album so many time I wore it out. Tonite was the first time I could hear it in over 30 years. I tried so many times to find this. So happy to hear it again. So sad Stan is gone.
Stan and Daws Butler make mention of the werewolf sketch in the 1987 documentary, Daws Butler: Voice Magician. Stan applauds the way in which Daws received thunderous applause and laughter by just giving a nervous laugh.
@ReBoot Fan: In the sketch Stan's singing a parody of the song "Tammy", by Debbie Reynolds, but it's called "Clammy". It isn't any kind of reference to the condition of one's skin or anything. Debbie's song, "Tammy", at the time of this radio broadcast had been the #1 pop hit for more than a month (5 consecutive weeks) and the audience in the studio were VERY familiar with "Tammy" and instantly recognized the parody and the vocal delivery which is the reason the audience roared with laughter.
Stan has to be the most quick witted comedian. My uncle John was his recording engineer. He said Stan was a crazy man getting all his schpiel set up & in order. He was veeerry picky. Would work days in a row without stop. Maybe there was some coke involved.
@@dr3putt62 Will have to check and see what kind of tubes I have. I found some in attic of the house I got that still in the original boxes. Have not had time to go through them. Guess someone could use them.
Originally heard on Sunday nights at 7:30pm(et), following "THE BEST OF {JACK} BENNY". Stan's program was doomed because he insisted on "full sponsorship"- not just "participating sponsors", buying a minute here and there- and he turned down three different tobacco companies who wanted to sustain him. Because of his attitude, CBS was unable to sell ANY advertiser on the show, and it went off the air two weeks after this one...
28:20- "Stay tuned for five minutes of the latest news, followed immediately, over most of these stations, by 'THE MITCH MILLER SHOW'...on the CBS Radio Network."
