Stan Hanson on Bruiser Brody
"WWE Hall of Famer" & Japanese Wrestling legend Stan "The Lariat" Hansen talks about knowing his longtime tag team partner Bruiser Brody since their days playing football at "West Texas State," Brody's antics at the school, teaming with him in Midsouth wrestling and their tag matches in All Japan Pro Wrestling.

Thank you for sharing. As a kid, I was genuinely terrified by Stan Hansen. I don't think I ever saw him at a live event, but the yelling, and the tobacco. I always wanted to see someone beat him. He was a great performer. It's amazing to me, still, as an adult to watch this and see he's so eloquent in his recollections. Amazing. Thank you again for this!

Stan and Terry Funk were absolute geniuses of wrestling psychology. To hear them speak outside of the business, they are the calmest and most respectful men. Contrast this with the madness and chaos they brought to the ring. They understand the business in ways that today's markish wrestlers and fans could only dream of. Both Hansen and Funk pulled truly great matches out of Hulk Hogan, and that is saying something. Masters of the craft.

I have started watching classic wrestling matches and saw my first Bruiser Brody and Stan Hansen matches against Terry Funk. Stan had a great knee drop on top of other moves and the finish actually got me teary eyed when Dory ran in to save Terry from getting strangled by that rope. Brody was just as impressive, it's a terrible shame to have lost him early.

Stan Hansen always comes across very well in interviews. Not to be a shill, but his book was a very good read if not a bit disjointed. A lot of older wrestling fans have probably heard the story of a wrestler who made their name with the WWF, NWA, and to a lesser extent the AWA but Hansen became a legend from his work in Japan. It is interesting to hear things from his perspective. Thank you, Hannibal, for doing this interview.

I have been a big fan of Brody back when him and Fritz had just finished being enemies back in the 70's I was just a kid then . I am now52 and I still enjoy watching the old matches of him beating the living daylights out of some pretty boy out there who so dearly needed it. I wish he had never went to Puerto Rico that S.O.B (Invader #1) should have been shot for what he did to Brody. They still found him not guilty, what the hell was he doing in there with a knife to begin with ,and I have said and always will say that some people were paid off for this to happen the way that it did .One thing is for sure "Bruiser Brody" will always be loved and respected and admired and missed by me and millions of people who are true fans of his. STAN HANSON and BRUISER BRODY didn't like each other in the ring but on the road to the next show, they were the best of buddies. Ten Gallon White Cowboy Hat and a giant Afro on a huge head; they made quite the pair. The Spotatorium in Dallas-FT.Wort to Texarkana Arkansas was three hours but would take all day eating, talking, sleeping, farting and cutting promos on each other nobody would ever hear: "Bruiser Brody hear!!!" "Just wanted to tell you how happy I am to be in the ring tomorrow afternoon with Carlos Calon? He fake spits on the ground: Let me tell you something about Bruiser Brody He's got the long curly hair he's got the scar's on his head. HALF-HOUR outside of the city the show starts at seven it quarter to five we come across a broken down beat up rambler full of Girl Scouts standing on the side of the road looking like they needed help and Stan Hanson driving pulls up behind them and comes to a complete stop. "What are you doing, we ain't got time for this." Frank was all business all the time. Hanson ignores him and gets out to see what he can do to help. The girls swarm the car when they see Brody and he can see they have a flat tire and don't know how to change it. Hanson has some of the girls get out the back and starts bringing out the tire and jack to change the tire. Frank gets up to the back of the car just as the Scout Leader asks Stan a question he turns to answer; Frank bends down and starts breaking the lugs on the car. Stan's hand is right at his should he grabs him lightly and says, "I got this Frank." "I'll do it." Ignoring him. "What did I tell you, hillbilly?" He jerk's his shoulder back and in a moment frozen in time "Frank" became "Bruiser Brody" right before your eyes and everyone became silent." BIG STAN HANSON kneed Brody in the back of the head and his paper-thin forehead skin from dozens of barely healed scars exploded blood in every direction spattering off the old Rambler quarter panel and on to Girl Scout uniforms and children's faces in horror as the dance began. Eight or eight-thousand spectators never matters to the pro's because it's all grist for the mill except when they all take off the woods unison... A couple stood back who might have known who they were in fascination or a trance once they saw all that blood when a Texas State Trooper pulled up for a "Safety Check," seeing little girls scattering and two very large men rolling around in the ditch fighting over a lug wrench... (PS More to come: I might have them brought to the arena One police escort SWAT and the other Fire & Rescue fight right in the front door....) thewrestlersheaven.blogspot.com/2018/02/girl-scout-cookies-in-dirt-bruiser.html

All this talk on Brody being 6'4" is rather funny considering I just happened to be watching Brody vs 'Texas Red' The Undertaker, in his professional debut in WCCW several days ago and was noticing the heights of the two - pretty much dead even. Now Calloway (The Undertaker) is supposed to go 6'9"-10", which we know is absurd. Perhaps 6'7" is more fitting. Figuring Brody was maybe an inch shorter than 'Red', then take two. Inches for his hair, which is rather massive, gives you about...6' 4"-5".. If you look st his shoes, there really is no room for lifts on any signifigant size.. Heck, Kane had one inch lifts early in his career and they were hugely noticable... Brody might have had half inch lifts at most and a legend grew out of it, but it is his hair that adds most the 'fake' height lol ;)
