Hey guys 👋🏻 My name is Lynz Crichton, a songwriter from the UK, but I also enjoy doing the odd livestream and acoustic looper cover song as well as writing my own music with my Crichton Clan! Today's song choice is Stand By Me by the great Ben E King! CLASSIC!!
I love taking big songs and turning them into something new and different. I enjoy the sounds of modern folk music, and I usually like layering sounds with my looper pedal. Gives me something a bit different to play with. I also write my own original music with my Crichton Clan, and our sound is more acoustic indie-folk with an occasional sprinkling of country-pop on the top!
It has been said many times that my sound has a similar vibe to Aimee Mann, Joni Mitchell, KT Tunstall, Brandi Carlisle, Ani di Franco, Jewel, Sheryl Crowe, Bonnie Raitt, and Carly Simon, but what do YOU think?

SUPER COOL! I love the "wall of sound" effect you're building perfectly fits for this 50's classic. For those who haven't heard of it, the "Wall Of Sound" was a rock and roll technique developed in the late 50's by music producer Phil Spector. You may know it through groups like The Crystals and The Ronettes.

@@LynzCrichton I'm a super big oldies fan so I know a lot about those sorts of things. Glad I added a bit of information to your knowledge bank. :) Another cool bit of 50's information, you likely know about surf music, right? Did you know there's two types, guitar surf music, and the "California sound" which is the vocal surf music about surfing, cars, "summer is fun" kind of stuff. Did you know that Jan & Dean invented the sound and Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys was inspired by songs like Jennie Lee, Gas Money, and Baby Talk back in the 50's, and both groups continued to make summer themed music well into the 60's, but around 1966 they evolved their sound slowly transitioning away from surfing music to psychedelic (their Pet Sounds album is kind of "psychedelic surf"), but then the original Smile album was super psychedelic (became later released as Smiley Smile in 1967), like if you listen to the song Fall Breaks Into Winter you'll probably think "that's one of the trippiest songs I've ever heard". "Stand By Me" is the song I have covered more often than any other and it got me on Britain's Got Talent. This is a wonderful arrangement.

@@LynzCrichton thank you! What you wouldn't know is that the BGT team all knew what I was going to do, and in fact I was told backstage to invite the audience up in rows, which I did. I had been told in emails long before the show that BGT wanted me to do "Stand By Me," and that it was fine for me to ask the audience and judges to join me on stage. I was even told that the audience would be briefed that they could do this. Wonderful, I thought, BGT are going to make this easy for me, so I wasn't expecting Simon's reaction. I have wondered whether he did know what I was going to do and was actually acting to maintain his "bad guy" image. If he was acting he is really good as an actor. He looks genuinely annoyed.
