Stand-up comedian Kevin James is back with "Irregardless"

He had a nine-year run starring in the CBS sitcom "The King of Queens," and topped the box office charts with the comedy "Paul Blart: Mall Cop." But comedian Kevin James reserves his greatest affection for stand-up, which the college dropout honed while moonlighting at Long Island comedy clubs. James talks with correspondent Jim Axelrod about why he's thankful he bombed his audition for "Saturday Night Live," and why he keeps going back to his stand-up roots, now on view in the Amazon Prime special, "Kevin James: Irregardless."

Yeah, the first time I watched I had never heard of him, but I knew Leah was a hottie, so I figured it couldn't be a total waste of time, and then he cracked me up for the whole show.

1. i had no idea that he was actually a h.s. football star. 2. KOQ is an absolute classic. 3. he knows he's scratchin' nails on a chalkboard by titling his special, "irregardless," which i hate. BUT, i love him for it. 😄

Oh my goodness, I am a product of the groovy 60s! The hilarious shenanigans of Lucy Ball, Carol Burnett, and Kevin James always had me in stitches. I mean, who needs fancy gadgets and special effects when you have pure comedic talent like that? Those were the days, my friend.

It's great to finally see that show out! They happened to be filming it at the Hanover Theater in Worcester, MA, back in Nov '22, so I'm in that audience! The very last row 😂 But such a fun show. My mom and I used to watch King of Queens together occasionally so that's partially why I went to see his show that night. And he's extremely humble. Love to Kevin!

I think "Here Comes the Boom" might be his best movie. Not all the belly laughs of some others, but funny throughout with a serious side to it.

I hadn't seen King of Queens until about five years ago, when there was nothing else to watch at 11pm one night. For some reason, I'd presumed it wasn't a show I'd enjoy, but I was wrong. Very funny, with a great supporting cast -- except for Jerry Stiller's character. Loved him as Frank Costanza in Seinfeld, but not so much here.

It was really framed as a puff piece and not a report 😂. "99 out of 100 people that fail an audition at SNL would curl up in a fetal position..." there's dozens of stories of entertainers not getting SNL and still going on to fame and fortune.

Been a long time fan of his and his show. Unfortunately this latest stand up special was not very funny. I don't know if he wrote it all himself or had someone else writing for him, but in my eyes it was a flop. My wife didn't laugh much either. We still love "King of queens!"
