Raiden could probably take Big Boss with his bare hands because he has killed Solidus who is literally Big Boss with an exoskeletton which can dodge/stop bullets and give super strength. (And also give T H I C C legs and arms).

Aside from his broken sword, lost his -face shield- AHEM! AR Visor (thank you for the correct term), a scratched chin and his ideals being tampered with, at the end he's relatively fine, it's quite surprising how more durable people are compared to how strong they are.
