Standing on Trappist-1 Planets 

Imagine you are the first one to land on a planet like that. Man, the feeling you would have would be amazing.

I think it's pessimistic to say these planets have no atmospheres. Venus is a prime example.

I don't think a blanket statement like "life does not exists there" is a fair one. Even if the worlds of Trappist-I are awash with radiation, life can exist quite comfortably under water or just a little under the ground. Hell there are organisms here on Earth that can survive in certain levels of radiation. We don't know yet if life could exists on one of those planets. Also the fact that the planets are so close together means life can hop from one to the next quite easily over time. More than 10,000X more likely than life hopping between Earth and Mars according to some calculations. So don't jump to a conclusion just yet about life on Trappist-I.

I disagree. I'm pretty sure that if we will ever venture into that system, we will have really big surprises! I bet that a few of those planets have atmospheres and maybe even oceans, if they have a strong magnetic field.

3:13 “Tidally locked” doesn’t mean they don’t rotate, it means their rotation period is equal to their orbital period. By the way, unless the orbit is perfectly circular, you will likely see oscillations in the position of their sun in the sky.

What a great video !!! I’ve always been very fascinated by the Trappist 1 system and what life would be like living on one of these planets? Too bad we don’t have the technology to possibly do cryogenics where humanity could possibly be frozen since it takes so many light years to reach these or any other distant worlds as a way of keeping us alive until we reached these worlds then slowly wake us up. Is anyone even working on such technology or does such technology as cryogenics even exist were that’d be possible?

Hopefully the Webb telescope will reveal more but I think the jury is still out on whether the Trappist planets have atmospheres, liquid water and potentially life....there is a good chance that flares from TRAPPIST have stripped atmospheres away but it's not certain....and the mass and density of some of the planets is highly suggestive of a liquid water content

I wonder if any of the Trappist-1 planets actually have an ocean. I believe that Europa actually has whales in its ocean. I believe there is so much more out there that we can ever imagine....

We could shield ourselves from the star by remaining on the far side of the planets. If nothing else they'd provide a vast supply of materials from which to build colossal starships.

One small nit-pick... Tidally locked moons and planets _do_ rotate on their axis. They just rotate at the same rate as they orbit their parent body. As for the possible (non-)existence of atmospheres on the planets of Trappist-1, I will reserve judgement until we get hard data back from the James Web Space Telescope and other observational platforms.

Beign tidally locked doesn't mean the planet doesn't spin it means that the rate at which the planet spins is the same as the rate that it orbits around the star.

Fun Fact, the Trappist Planets have actual names now! They are, in order from closest in to farther away, Rochefort, Westmalle, Westvleteran, Achel, Chimay, Orval, and Spencer! They are named after six TRAPPIST Beer breweries in Belgium, and one in the US!

Trappist 1 is at least 40 light years away from us & is 4 light years farther than Arcturus, Arcturus is 36 light years away, Trappist 1 is 4 light years further than Arcturus, Trappist 1 is 400 trillion kilometers away & Arcturus is 360 trillion kilometers away, meaning they are 40 trillion kilometers away from each other (4 light years away from each other) that is at least the distance between Earth & Proxima Centauri

TRAPPIST-1 e according to its density, may have a big iron core, so it may have a powerful magnetosphere, because of that it may have some atmosphere.
