Having a bleeder drain on your standpipe elbow is a good idea for several reasons. Eric Tollund reviews them in this episode showing some realistic standpipe stretch hang ups where a bleeder valve on the elbow can help you overcome them.

This situation actually happened. That’s where they got the idea for the bleeder. The line The line was pinched firmly and even opening the nozzle kept the pressure between the door and the stand pipe outlet

I get what you’re saying but this situation actually happened and the line was pinched so firmly that the water pressure still existed between the pinched line and the standpipe outlet so it was recommended to have a bleeder on the elbow and it seems to be a great resolution to a predictable situation.
