In ME 204, one of the most popular courses run by the Product Realization Lab, students learn to design and build their own bikes. Final exam: Each creation must be assembled safely and soundly enough for the instructors to ride.

What's the theft rate of these bikes after built? How are the material costs covered?

Right, like a recreation center where you can rent/lease tools based on time availability? I can think of United Rentals where you can rent certain equipment. Im sure you can find drill presses, paint guns and welders somewhere! Surely you could design one on paper, find out what you need and order the materials (for the bike frame) then fabricate it yourself. It could be slightly less economical to fabricate your own as opposed to buying one--depending on suppliers and such; certainly you'll spend a lot of precious time on making your own

holyteejful He said innovative people, as in people who are creatively constructive. Never said a word about a bike.

Joe11Blue I know what innovative people are... but whats his point? Thats what I was getting to... there are librarys AND tools out there... and since he commented on a video about students making a bike I am assuming his entire comment refers to the video, thus a bike.

i mean all these tools and info that some institutes horde for them self and for those who have the money instaed of giving it to the public like a library, research is meant to be added on and built upon and in reality it hold us all back is all I’m saying

If there were classes available where I could learn and build something like a bike I might not have dropped out but having to learn a second language I will never use and algebra semmed pointless.

sry, not impressed, instead a little disgusted, having access to the best tools, machinery, and materials, any can do that. try building it from scraps found at the local scrap yard, and trash dumps, try making your own tools from scratch and measure through ingenuity and math rather than the relying solely on the precision of those fine instruments. build a bike from scratch from trash and that would inspire me to apply to standford.
