A joy to watch your videos. Always inspiring and I admire your imagination to keep coming up with great ideas and sharing your knowledge. Well done. One Handed Maker - Australia
I have a very small one similar to your old antique one. It was given to me by my grandfather, and the only thing I was told to do with it was to chamfer the edges on large pieces of lumber. Always bringing him the longest shaving. Who knew that little plane would be around for so long. Many blessings to you!
Purchase mine from Menards for $4.95 each as of this writing. First thing you should really do is sand off all the paint on the bottom and flatten it I'm 220 then polish up a little bit on 600! Then true up the blade and she's an excellent little plane. For small work and for chamfering you really can't beat it for that price. Buck Brothers makes one at Home Depot at the time I bought mine were approximately $13 heavy cast iron same size plane they work really well too if you tune them up has a nice heavy feel versus the stamp one that has a lighter feel all preference by the user. What do you say it's a pencil sharpener that's a new idea. I did see a company Hocking a similar plane size out of brass for $100 just for sharpening pencils. It was flipped upside down in a wooden holder to catch the shavings. Well here's a good alternative in about a tenth of the cost! Good idea Marty, Columbus Michigan
You haven't posted any videos in two years and likely will never see this, but just in case, I wanted to let you know I've enjoyed your videos immensely and wish you would come back to RU-vid.
Hey Marty! Gabriel here. We met at the top of the hiking trail this morning. Great video and channel! Love to see you sharing your passions with others. Peace!
Guys, Marty is very fine, actually. He has a newer channel - ElectricUnicycles. Check it out. Don't know why he did not edit descriptions to redirect there. Cheers.
What grit diamond plates do you have? I like your sharpening setup. I apologize if you've covered this in a previous video ( I just subscribed). Do you like these better than water stones?
I use DMT diamond plates; the 3x8 size. Extra-course, fine, extra fine, and extra extra fine. I switched to only-diamond some years ago and haven't looked back.
