Well, at least we had the intentions of making the repair. Watch the full video to see what happens but if you don’t have the seven minutes to spare, I thought I was about to start the restoration on a rosewood 605-1/2 set but ran into a major problem. Turns out someone (years ago) fashioned a smaller tote to the plane. In doing so, they added a hole at the toe and then coated the bottom of the tote with JB Weld to help secure its position.
All is not lost' we have a few donor totes and we’re working toward a matching solution with the proper features. In the mean time, enjoy the “not everything is as it seems” video.

Thank you Gordon. I need to watch more of your videos for sure. One thing I've gleaned is the value of parts off unusable planes. I couldn't source any old Rosewood on a Bailey 7C I was getting back up to user status so I used some completely opposite timber for a horn replacement on the tote. Figured I might as well make the need obvious when a more professional user wants to properly restore it. (Can't believe I found one still intact after 121 years of hard use.)

I love your mdf table saw sled method. I use that to build/repair many things including plane furniture.

😂 i could hear the suspicion in your voice even before you got to the drilled screw hole. Even if you weren't aware of it, your intuition knew. I appreciate your videos and look forward to a take 2 of this one.

You’re very observant. I get so far behind on repairs yet I like sharing and making the videos. But yes, I saw the fork in the road but kept on talking. 😆

I wish I could have seen my face while I was talking… my eyes locked on the hole that was drilled into the toe and right away I’m like “huh?” Hahahahah.
