I knew Stanley in person, he' such a great man with a great heart, helped a lot of children and sick people here in Brazil for free, at his shows, didn't put price on tickets, only requested an optional donation of food for poor people, he's such a humble person, gifted by God, may Lord bless you forever Stanley.
The vibes, the groove, the inspiration makes Stanley Jordan and his music the same thing.I cannot praise this genius musician and honest man enough. The light of him and his music are a blessing for Jazz and the world.
Ah, this elicits such fond memories. Memories of days sitting on the University of Wisconsin Madison’s library steps, studying my books and listening to, and occasionally glancing up at, this very talented yet unknown young man, Stanley Jordan, honing his playing skills while performing on the campus square podium. Sometimes, I’d be the only one watching him.
I had the great pleasure of sitting front and center at the BlueNote one night and seeing the trio up close. It was WILD! This guy is amazing and the entire band is fantastic. Kenwood arrived by cab in a full suit and tie.. I was the only one in line because I got there way too early. He smiled and chatted with me a few minutes. Figured it was their manager or something. Imagine looking up and getting a big grin from the drummer less than ten feet away. lol. An amazing night.
My wife went to high school with him in Palo Alto. He was a year or two ahead of her. She says he was the nicest guy and would watch him practice in the auditorium at lunchtime. Lucky girl!
Two years later, when I was a graduate student at Marquette University, a still unknown Stanley Jordan performed at the campus pub. We talked briefly and I introduced him to some of my friends, and he introduced me to his wife who had his baby girl in tow. Six months later, the New York Times gave him a favorable write-up after a remarkable performance in New York, and from that point on, he was no longer unknown.
He used to roller skate around campus at UW-Madison in the 80s with a pignose amp on his back, playing guitar in his style. The music department at the university laughed at him. I'm pretty sure that they stopped laughing after his second appearance on The Tonight Show.
I heard Stanley Jordan in the subway station beneath the Boston Commons, while I lived in Boston. I knew from the time when I heard him that he was bound for greatness (if not great wealth). A year or two later, he released his first album on Blue Note Jazz.
When you see Jordon playing, it’s like someone is standing behind him reaching around playing the other guitar😵💫 How can he possibly be playing those complex chords on one guitar and those runs on the other😍
Hey wait! He's cheating! He's using TWO guitars? What? How? He is a revolutionary musical genius. I'm a huge fan. The rest of the band is also very incredible musicians. Thank you for what you all do so well.
Say what u want to!! But this is incredible watching a man literally play jazz/rhythm guitar & lead at the same time on 2 guitars!!!! I would love to see a brain scan of his skull! To see the percentage of brain usage/activity in his head!! They say average person uses 20% of the brain?!?!?! Or mainly one side of the brain!?!? I would think he's at 35-45% or more!? Lol for all we know he has telepathic powers or other?! Like that movie "Lucy!"
The music of Faso is an inexhaustible source of sweetness. It allows us to plunge deep inside ourselves and at the same time resonate with our fellow man, Yé Lassina Coulibaly❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
lol... I fell out my chair laughing at this post. I felt the same way. Great way to explain how I was feeling but couldn't quite put in words! I have to go lock myself in a basement with my bass and WORK!!
Probably because that, despite his unquestioned talent, the ‘rhythm guitar’ is barely audible and very bland. Add to that the awful “plinky-plonky” midi sound! As I type this I’m thinking “nice player” but that’s it! Watching it, well, the spectacle makes up for what may or may not be lacking in the musical department
I hope that's not supposed to be a piano sample. You can hear, if you listen closely, the MIDI is mistriggering, causing ghost notes. Jumbo frets are great. Stanley was ahead of his time. No one was tapping like that then and very few are doing it close to his level these days.
