A short video of Stanley s first year , bringing him home at 8 weeks . A fun packed year with our bundle of joy ,lots of hard work but totally worth it ! x
I grew up with my sister's basset hound. The pup was already a year old when I was born. She was the best baby sitter, and the best big sister ever (my actual sister is second best).
What a beautiful boy he is, gorgeous!, we have had Bassets for over 35years we keep saying we will get a “real dog” next time 😁, but they take your heart and soul, we are so honoured to have had them in our lives, such wonderful dogs. Our current boy is a 35kg lap dog, the love of our lives, Bassets all have the same traits but each have their own individual personalities, we are their whole life but they are such an enormous part of ours it’s always heartbreaking to have the inevitable goodbye. Enjoy every moment of your handsome boy and thank you for sharing him with us, 🥰🏴🇬🇧
My Bassett of 15 years passed on June 24th of this year, seeing this jus makes me smile from ear to ear. Thank you for posting this video of your beautiful boy♥️
I am so sorry for your loss. I hope the 14 years of Happy Basset Memories will replace your tears with that smile only a Basset could put on your face.
So very sorry to hear of their passing, though I don't know you, I always empathize with anyone who loses their four legged babies, and I know just how terribly it hurts us inside. If I may offer some words of comfort I would tell you that your baby is beyond the Rainbow Bridge in Bassett Hound heaven playing together with my 13 yr old "Sissy" who I had to have put down a couple years ago, and I guarantee they aren't lonely. They will be their waiting for us when our time comes, and I honestly can't think of anything more to look forward to in this world. God bless em', our dogs are the greatest gift the Lord ever gave to us.
Your Stanley is such a gorgeous and precious boy. He looks just like my gorgeous Sam, who passed away 43 years ago. I still miss her terribly - I have tears running down my cheeks writing this 😓
36 years ago I lost Rosie, nobody loved my kids anymore than she did, the night after their funeral she stayed outside and barked all night, she did it before & she never did it after, she loved Dixie and Jim.
@@Aussiemarco Pretty much, I just have to remind myself that it was a good day for Dixie and Jim, still sucks for the rest of us, I’m just looking forward to the day when I get to join them. Might be a little morbid but I’m okay with that.
I had my Bassett for 11 years, she was my first child. Today 50 years later the memories are still as vivid. She was a champion of champion's but I had her spayed, she was my pet, my baby and she grew up with my children. They are just the best, good with children, not noisy, barking unnecessarily, couch potatoes, love to sleep on the bed and especially on the electric blanket, but long on wind when they pick up a scent. They are hunting dogs, very large on very short legs. Extremely strong and as in the video we had to use some choke chain when walking her otherwise she simply dragged you where she wanted to go. The only flaw is that they will chew anything, eat anything, and are kleptomaniacs. She stole countless pounds of cheese, butter, Vieannas, sausages, roast potatoes, a large leg of roast lamb in one go, frozen minced beef which left her shivering all over, fish and chips with tomatoe sauce, macaroni and cheese, soft bread rolls, cream cake, biscuits including 5 lb biscuits in one go, boxes of chocolates soft rusks, and yellow fruit, oranges, peaches, pawpaw, mangoes, apples. Loved her bath and then rolling in the dirt if she got away before being prooerly dried, but absolutely adorable. 😆😅😆😅😆😅
Stanley is awesome! My first basset passed away on my birthday at age 12. We now have a brother and sister combo of bassets. The boys name is Flash, and the girl is Pancake.
What a precious character 🥰 and you did such a great job training him! And his fur is so silky 😍 In a few years you’ll be so happy you captured all these moments… thanks for sharing 🙂
@@ashyraye8262 I know they are a lot of work but I have owned one before. An to have another Basset hound would make not only me but my husband extremely happy. They are one of the sweetest dog breeds I have ever owned.🥰❤️
Basshole - but, we love em. Had one miss my Blueberry they are natural comedians. The embodiment of the declaration of independence.... They consider your requests then decline unless food is involved. Not for the fragile.
When I die,I want my Afterlife to consist of a mass of all the dogs I ever loved,as puppies again so we can do it all over again. My family and my dogs.that's Heaven.
Stanley reminds me of my Basset hound. I lost Flash when she was a year old. I went on vacation and in the four hours it took to get home. Her stomach twisted and she past away. I was inconsolable. This video has made me smile, laugh, and cry. I’m disabled due to back surgery. Thank you so much for sharing this. My heart is in a thousand pieces, but Stanley managed to put some pieces back together. Have a Merry Christmas.
Laurie: You must miss your dear Flash so. Bassets are the best companions! Do get another. He or she will comfort you when nothing else can. Good luck.
I'm glad Stanley made you smile , we never thought we would have another basset after our Marmite Basset passed away, as he was the best ,it broke our hearts . Took a year before we decided to have another Basset and we are so glad we did. Our house is now a home again ❤ same breed but completely different personalities xx
@@michellepinney1057 I wish I could but can’t afford a second one. I can afford insurance, just not 1500-3000 thank you so much for asking. Flash meant the world to me. You never had to ask for love. She gave it to you unconditionally.
@@lauriepace6753Laurie: I understand your grief and your despair at the price for insurance and the cost of getting another Basset, but stay strong, you will find a new companion. My buddy, Tillie, turned 17 a couple of weeks ago and I made it to 71 on Dec. 7, I'm grateful we've achieved this together. Stay strong and stay in touch. 619-634-6945. Michelle
My heart broke reading your post :(. I have a wonder little guy named Taz, he is full blooded basset and lives up to his name. They are like no other breed, those sweet eyes truly steal your heart. I am sorry for your loss.
YES it is hard work to train bassets, after all it is proven fact that bassets are known to be stubrun is they want to be! Best companion dog in my opinion! !
Stanley is soooo cute ♥ I had a Basset Hound show up my house a few days ago. Her owners had a shock collar on her and somehow she learned how to maneuver around it. She was at my house again yesterday. So cruel to put a shock collar on her. I'm thinking she's lonely and that's why she's running away from home. They probably don't spend any time with her. They're such cute and sweet doggies ♥
Can’t believe he can do middle! Amazing!! Our Biscuit has the Basset 10 second latency period of deciding if he is going to do it or not 😆 he’s also figured out that the treat comes from the front so why not just stand there and wait? 😂 clever boy
62 yrs ago my parents got our first Basset Hound named....................Stanley. He was the first of three while I was growing up. What a great breed for families.
Just got my first Bassett, I’ve always had Boxers. Absolutely love this breed already. Remind me very much of how Boxer puppies are. Training has begun and I see very much the same traits as my Boxers. Patience and consistency will win. Stanley is very well socialized and trained that’s testimony to great owners.
I want Stanley. Can you please send him to me? Thank you. AAARRRFFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can afford the hugs, provide the cuddles and supply the snuggles. I live in Toronto, Ontario Canada.
“Oh no-o-o-o-o!!! Not the EARS- paws and eyes at the same time?! Please don’t! I can’t take the skin- so loose and lovely! AH! NO- the belly!!!! You have no shame- do You, Stanley?”🥰👑❤️😁😍🥳
Our Basset used to steal wash cloths and roll on them. My Dad called her Rubber Lips or Slug Woman when she’d sun bathe. All from Basset Rescue of N CA. So good natured! We’ve had five over the years.
My grandparents had a basset hound, as well as a beagle when i was litrle. Sammy was the basset hoind, Princess the beagle. I called Sammy "my shiny dog" because i loved the way the light shone on his fur. I loved to curl up next to him and rest my head on his back. I'd put his ear over my eyes and fall asleep almost immediately. Grandma knew ahe could get me to take a nap by suggesting i curl up to Sammy on the floor faster than if she tucked me into bed. They had a shoe company around that time that mom always ahopped at for my shoes. It's mascot was a basset hound. I called the shoe Sammy's shoes. To this day, i still think of Sammy when i see a Bassett hound. "Sammy dogs" come fastter ro my mind than their proper name.
I had some trainers tell me not to enroll my Bassett into AKC TRAINING. They said it would be a waste of my time and money. We proved them wrong. She graduated first and won the best in our class award. LOVE BASSETTS

I think a Basset's big feet are for digging. They're bred to go in holes after game. It's likely their slack skin protects them in battle too. My guess is they're very tenacious dog when they're after something (like your bed covers).
awwww love bassets Stanley's such a character hope you have many many years of happiness together.. i had one as a kid called Monty he lived to the grand age of 15 which i believe is pretty decent for a Basset hound..
Awww happy times and hard work for you.,I miss the young puppy stage We are on the testing, hormonal teenage stage !!..Stanley is regularly on Instagram if you use that platform.. stanley_the_basset_hound_uk 😀
