This is the Baddest' festival song of all time !.. bar none...if you stop and think about it.. just the start alone before the beat drops.....'I am dreaming of a new Jamaica...a land of peace and love'....nuff said.
1980 festival song winner Deservedly so as it was in the heights of the Jamaican civil war between the ruling PNP led by Muchael Manley and the opposing JLP led by Edward Seaga. Many lives were lost due to people's political preference. This song was just right for Jamaicans 🇯🇲
Mi a 23 and a dem yah music yah mi wah hear ohhhh God 2000's pikni dem nah guh ever live with the feeling of being Jamaican without tracing the roots if they have a sense of what it was like and that alone can bring peace to the nation again cuz we're the ones to change otherwise it'll just continue sink deeper no politician can save Jamaica neither of the two.
My gosh! I was an innocent little girl when this came out and I used to sing this with passion and I really didn't know exactly what it meant. You know a song is well made when you can still rock to it 40 years later.
Perhaps the one song that truly reminds me of my teenage days. Recall a party in Soroti Town in Uganda. The longest I have known any single party to last. We transnighted 7 days straight, no sleep, musing blasting back to back through all the seven days/nights.This song played countless times in that time!!
@@kirkunited7810 I'm from Kenya. One of the greatest tunes that get played on local radios, jam sessions, at home.. etc severally are 'Memories, Calypso, Where Have All The Young Girls Gone, Brown Girl, Kisiloo, and New Jamaica. He's never gonna be forgotten over here.
I remember when this song won festival, I hated it, I thought it sounded old fashioned. Thank God I am older now-middle aged and with age comes wisdom. This song is perfect, they lyrics and beat beat blended perfectly. Mento beat is the closest musical heritage we as Jamaicans have that connects us to our ancestors homeland-Africa
I just told a friend yesterday about going round the Maypole, Hopscotch, 123 Redlight, children now know nothing of those sweet times, thanks 4 the memories! 🥳🥳😊
Back in the day the Island was all about Love, Music, Education and Most all good Character and Principles. I was very young then but that was what I know.
I wish that were true. The main reason Lord Stanley Beckford dropped this tune, and I suspect that the main reason it won was because of the gruesome bloodshed that erupted in Jamaica in the late 1970’s. The political strife culminated in one of the bloodiest general elections in Jamaica’s history in 1980. Listen to the words. It starts by saying, “I’m dreaming of a NEW Jamaica, a land of peace and love!”
thanks to a TikTok post, i found out the artist of my all day favorite rhythm/riddim.....my ringtone for all my Caribbean friends...I LOVE THE BEAT!...i never knew it was a jamaican that composed it,,,and i didnt know title either...till today !! 2023-2090
