But in truth, Desslok did the right thing anyway. That Gamilon officer was being loud and obnoxious, disturbing the entire gathering. And even if Desslok had simply dismissed him, the officer would not have left so easily. And besides, as a high-ranking Gamilon officer, he should know better to be respectful in the presence of his honored leader. In short, that officer asked to be dumped out!
I still can't believe someone suddenly thought Gamilons should be blue, and they didn't go back and change the first episodes. Worse than that, Desslok changes blue in mid stride!! It will always be one of my favorite anime series, ever since I first saw it in the 70's
I read that they retroactively changed the Gamilons to blue skin by showing that their human skin colour was a mere lighting effect. So they show Desslock "changing" skin colour by the change in lighting as he approached his throne.
The color change in the Gamilons was a later decision by the creators. I guess they didn't want to get into the "how" and "why" of their obvious humanity, so they went with the total alien thing and slowly morphed them as the series progressed. Y'know, I haven't laid eyes on this show for almost 30 years. I forgot how hilariously evil and Caligua-ish Desslock was. He's such a classic archtype. An avatar for that whole banality-of-evil trip haha.
@Brianndlo4 Bizzare as it may seem, George Lucas got the idea for Darth Vader from Desslok. If you know this entire saga, Desslok becomes the villain you want to love, for just like Darth Vader (and Emperor Hirohito from WWII) they had total change of heart, and became good guys! It makes me think of the old song ... "First I thought / he was bad / But then I saw / that he was sad / That's when I fell for The Leader of the Pack" !! YEAH!
So you're telling me, that the fate of the earth rests in the hands of a ship who's co-pilot thinks that a perfect way to get through a mine-field is to... GO FASTER! Brilliant.
Why are the all blue skinned suddenly? And do you think the Gammilons & Desslok purposely come off a bit like Nazis? Maybe it's Japan's way of showing what a big mistake it was to side with them in WWII
