No bottom turret on the Taurus. You get a shielded smuggling compartment instead.

That is correct. 140-160 cargo, one turret (top), 4 S4 weapons that are Gimbaled. Finally, expect slightly cheaper initial components, but able to get some upgrades. Finally, expect to lose a lot of missiles form the Andromeda.

Taurus isn't available, they took it out. You now get an Andromeda as a loaner. Don't expect the Taurus out anytime soon.

I got a retaliator that i planned to run double cargo bays with. Because a potential enemy ship cannot tell if a retaliator is torpedo armed, its a great deterrent for when you're running cargo, potential enemies wont run the risk of messing with you. Theres a blind chance that they'll catch those size 9's. WIth two computers on board the tali, you can assign two turrets to auto fire and it will work great for solo cargo running. The cargo capacity is comprable to that of the cutlass and freelancer as well. In future vids i'd love to see the tali inculded regarding small cargo haulers.

I was just going to bring that ship up. I mean here me out real quick.. lol. Let's say Aegis is the UEE military ship manufacturer on contract. This ship could serve a few roles. Especially if they go modular with it. You could fit a torp bay in one side and cargo in the other. Or two cargo bays. You'd have decent protection with 5 turrets up top.

The entire game hasn't, As far as I care It's completely dead I lost my password well over 2 years ago and I see absolutely no reason to ever even considered buying another. It's incredibly depressing how long this game has been openly in development, Hell I was fresh into college when I made this comment, now? Dude Im a game designer working with Bethesda. Didn't get to work on Starfield, That's another team But the point is I went into college graduated, helped my company develop and release an entire AAA game and did all of that in the time It took star citizen to implement a goddamn ship I had bought almost 4 years earlier. And that's freaking nothing The The game literally started production in 2010, bro I was in middle school, literally every single other game I h was waiting for from back then has already released, lived a long life and have already died or are in their Twilight years. Sorry if I'm being a bit mean but every time I remember star citizen I get furious about all the money I put into it only for me not to get anything back.

When you do these recommendation vids, perhaps use visual overlays for base comparison, avg, actual for this ship, and too and bottom? You want us to understand and give us some help? If yes, then that will be a visual fix point for us to stay engaged across and into the end.

I'm very close to an upgrade from the Misc Freelancer to the MAX and did want to wait 'till the end of the month. After seeing vids the last few hours and this one pops up my CC is burning in my wallet lol.

One option I think you missed that is worth an honorable mention for a specific role, is the Retaliator with Cargo modules, while not holding a immense amount, at the price, this would likely be one of the most secure haulers for high value goods in the verse with the number of turrets, speed, armor, etc. Additionally escape pods and long term survivability is a important mention that you missed across the ships

Aura Rowe the Retaliator base? Does the pilot have access to any guns? Because I think is more like a multicrew ship, and maybe in this list he is considering a solo hauler, anyway I love that ship haha

The Freelancer may carry more cargo, but the shape of the hold prevents Cyclones from fitting. The Cutlass has an advantage as a vehicle transport and drop ship.

Having now actually watched the video, I still agree. Tho I think the Hull C may be worth mentioning, even if it is at the extreme end of the price range and we don't have it in our hands yet. But it's certainly a good fit for the next bracket.

Doesn't the Cutlass have a tractor beam hard point? I think when you're considering running cargo in smaller/more affordable ships. Their ability to do other things is a very important consideration. One that should trump total cargo capacity and the bang for buck on cargo running alone. Smaller traders will have a significant advantage over the larger ships in their flexibility.

It's funny how some people can't like something without hating something similar. In general chat we were talking about the freelancer and the cutty and a cutty fan was pissing all over the freelancer. I laughed all the way to the terminal where I completed a 35K profit run. As for the guns, give me the size 3 gimbals every time. Great defense for my space 18-wheeler. Cutty is a terrific ship and very versatile, but I'm quite happy with my Max. Warts and all, it serves well. And with upgraded shields, it's fairly tanky.

As one of the early backers who took the Freelancer + LTI for $125.00 I can't really complain. It's a pretty much the perfect ship for me as I typically fly solo. One of the things I like about Star Citizen vs Elite Dangerous is that the larger ships become more and more useless for a solo player to be effective in. Even if you make a Trillion credits, you can't just buy your own personal Death Star and lay waste to the verse on your own. Sometimes I'm tempted to upgrade to a more specialized version of the Freelancer but I'll wait till we have a true persistent universe before spending money because it's impossible to tell what the meta will be by then. Personally I think RSI / CIG is trying to make the Freelancer the Star Citizen version of a Millennium Falcon, meaning that it can do a little bit of everything like a Swiss army knife. Not a dedicated tool, but a decent jack of all trades.

I used to use a freelancer as my main ship but the max can carry cyclones and the Devs have said they will fix the rear turret which should let it carry an urser rover. Having the option to move those around made the upgrade seem worth getting.

Mercury Starruner is the Star Citizen version of a Millennium Falcon. Freelancer is the smal version of the Serenity and Carrack perhaps the big version. i have a carrack for playing with friends and Starrunner for (Han) Solo.

Keep in mind too if you do end up picking the MAX over the Taurus that you can always exchange your ship for store credit and then buy the Taurus.

Mercury = 96 SCU + a significant amount of data. The combined value may exceed the Max and the Taurus? Not strictly cargo and zero detail on data running - but it does make it an interesting option.

Why does everyone dismiss the Starfarer as a cargo ship?? It's $250, does refuelling, have a stock cargo space of 291scu currently at 3.13.1... this is before they have dedicated cargo pods which can be swapped in lieu of the current 6 fuel pods at the rear. Has loads of weapons both pilot controlled and turrets to keep people away and can both land in stations and on planets. Starfarer must be the most overlooked ship in this category. Personally if I'm to fly a dedicated cargo mission, nothing makes me safer than being in the Starfarer. Great video though, keep up the good work!

I noticed you did not talk about cargo dimensions for vehicular transport or ship amenities. Cutlass - Can hold up to a Cyclone, 2 beds, 4 gun racks, 2 closets Freelancers - Can hold up to a Dragonfly, 4 beds, 0? gun racks, 0? closets, 1 shower/toilet combo, 1 minikitchen

Don't forget the MAX can very easily be used to ferry Ursa's, Cyclones and even probably the upcoming Origin Rover around. Also, the Taurus only has 1 turret, it sacrifices the other one.

I believe the regular sized Freelancer (and DUR) not the Max can still squeeze through the small jump points.

Nothing is set in stone, especially an as yet completely unimplemented feature like jump points. However, so far CIG has not stated that any 'Lancer won't be able to use small jump points. Personally though, I think CIG should have four, perhaps even five, jump point size categories...

@@wp2746 i think Freelancer Max is also for smal Jumppoint. I think Taurus is too big and need Medium Jumppoints. but we will see.. the 315p is good for short missions and for beginning. i hope the DUR/Max can use smal size Jumppoints.

I always recommend the Cutty Black as a starter ship. It's the pickup truck of the galaxy. I doubt if we'll ever see the Taurus, as it keeps getting pushed back. By the time it does comes out, the C2 will already be in the game, making it redundant. So the Cat or the Freelancer Max are the two in-between ships. I've never been disappointed by my Max, but the Cat will make you gobs more money per run. Nice video STL.

What about the hull B? If you touch that concept on the star runner, surely we could talk about the premiere cargo ship concepted to the game. No defense, but can do all your cargo hauling needs. Your picks work if people are looking for a multirole ship that happens to have a large volume of cargo space available though.

Why does everyone who compares the Freelancers with a Cutlass Black forget that the Freelancer has double the computing power of the Cutlass (any variant of either). This will become critically important when factoring in AI blades for auto-turrets, quantum and inter-system jump calculations and spooling, data running, and many other functions in the ships.

Taurus only has 1 turret, the second is a shielded cargo hold/smuggler hold. Also, I suspect it's going to go up in price by a bit. Possibly quite a bit. Tuck away those CCUs!

The best cargo ship is the most SCU. You should easily be able to pay off an escort for cheap enough. Mercury Star Runner looks amazing though. Will be picking on up in game for sure. But for the cost of any of these ships, all are still less than half the capacity of the Hull B. Again, spend the saved UEC on paying for escorts, or stick to safer trading lanes.

I own a Taurus and had a big struggle about it and the MAX too. Taurus won because the ship feels more like a flyable home to me and the MAX more like a tool

Cargo vs $ costs is one thing, but a more long term metric could be Cargo vs Crew needed for cargo runs. I think the Max will be extra favorable in this light.

The Mercury SR is a very interesting ship on paper. I'm thinking of picking up a CCU upgrade from the Max during the sale to hold onto. From what I can see it looks like it will be a fast somewhat armoured ship more suited to running from conflict to get to its destination.

i think Starrunner has good defense if pirats behind you. 2 turrets with 2x S2 is the best Option in there Class. not good for attack, but Cargo- and Datarunner dont be Attackship. Good defense is better. i hope with AI-Blades, the Turrets work good, so can i play (Han) Solo.

If I had the extra would go for the Freelancer Max version for the current state of the game. The cargo space is great and you can fit a Cyclone in the cargo area as well, plus I like the way the ship looks as well. I wish the Mercury Star runner was in game and I would get that one for sure. Hopefully they dont change the stats on the ship before they release it to the game for purchase again, missed the first purchase window.

you shroud add that the freelancers unlike other ships can use auto Gimbel fire modes with out loosing its Fixed weapon size. making them good form PVE combat to.

4 Store bought ships that can get you on your feet running after a wipe. Prospector, Cutlass Black, ROC, Freelancer MAX. For me I have all but the later. Budgets ya know.

Been a long time since I've seen one of these videos. Kinda given up on SC of late, though recently got the game updated to current version I haven't played since 3.1. Just a bit fed up with the game in general right now. Got a Cutty and a Star G for my main ships, trader/smuggler with some fuel work on the side. Had a Max but got melted and recycled several times. Got a Merchantman too.... yeah that was a mistake. As much as I would love to keep it I doubt I'd get use out of it, honestly I'm not that big time. Gotta decide what I wanna do.

And nothing on the Drake Corsair ? It cost 215$, have more cargo than a base Freelancer (72 SCU) and have a serious firepower. I actualy have a Freelancer MAX, and i'm whaiting for the anniversary sales to upgrade it to a Mercury or a Corsair (i also have a Carrack that could do some high capacity hauling and i want a faster medium ship).

I'm such a huge fan of the cutlass! There's nothing that shp can't do. I've been making bank bounty hunting players/npcs, and buying/selling drugs in my offtime. I wouldn't want any other ship for drug-running, as I can always fight another ship off if I need to.

Leaving the Hull series out... I do think the Freelancer MAX is king for how much it costs. Also, the Taurus only has a Top turret (sacrificing the bottum turret for the shielded/smuggling space. Having Said that... I LOVE the Mercury. Yeah, has less cargo, but you can carry data.

Mercury star runner $225 96 SCU cargo, close to Max but with max out the speed and 11 Main Thrusters on it, your safety is guaranteed.

The MAX is my daily drivers for cargo hauling. If I worry about hostile intent, My goal is to hire a wing man for the run. Now this is not really profitable at the moment in the PU which I acknowledge. however it is my goal when evaluating the ship. Later.

I currently have the freelancer MAX and have a love hate relationship with it. It is ugly and I don't like the cockpit. Function wise it is solid though. I'm thinking of switching to the Dur or Mis though. As I don't really need all that cargo for my play style

On the Freelancer, did they fix the door lock not working? I know it's Alpha and was a known issue, but it has a pretty big impact on usability if the lock doesn't work. And, you can ccu up to a 'Lancer from a Cutlass, but you can't go the other way. It's good that try before you buy ship rentals are coming for people still interested in donating to fund development.

You can swap for 4xs3 fixed and its turret got 2xs3 and is viable offesively to shoot frontally together with main guns so you can get 6xs3 at once on target.

Even if you upgrade the shields of the Cutlass (it cannot equip military ones btw) it is very squishy, because it has not many HP, when it comes to weapons, the Cutlass got 4 s3 fixed max and the Freelancer got 2 double S3 remote turrets (on the sides) which are slaved to the pilot. The Cutlass, has more missiles and its turret is double S3 (the Lancer got double s2 on the turret) If you upgrade the Freelancer with FR 76 shields, it is very tanky.

I like the Max because the MISC styling actually makes it feel like a hauler. Not as much as the Hull series, but pretty close. It's for that reason that the Mis has always felt so off to me. Like... why is that pickup truck running in a death race? haha

I think the "jumppoint size" is given too much tought... the 'verse will be fairly big and I'd imagine just VERY few parts would offer significant benefits to small jumppoint sizes, unless the idea gets scrapped altogether once CIG realizes the pain it means for programming encounters and so on. IMO Freelancer MAX vs. Taurus comes down to playtyle, the MAX is likely more useful when playing alone or with a friend in the same ship, while the Taurus is more useful in convoys, as it brings more Cargo and Firepower and possible jumppoint restrictions wouldn't matter anyway when following BMM, StarG and so on. I'd also like to point out, that the Constellation may have one of the highest Firepower per Player ratios (excluding Torpedo-Ships) of the "normal" ships. Even using gimballs and leaving aside range etc. a Constellation with 4 gimballed S4 M6A has about 133% DPS of the SH Heartseeker (using MXA weapons+speciality mount), or 125% of a Vanguard Warden with a fixed S5 M7A or 150% DPS of Ships with 4x S3 Weapons (Sabre, Freelancers) of the same family. With that said, I doubt anything would ever really compete with the 250$ BMM's (it used to cost 250$, it's now 350$, pretty sure it'll go up again, since feedback on the defender style has been rather positive) Bang for Buck ratio.

cargo is not Cargo. The Carrack is not for Trading runs. The Container must be unload and open and then load/unload. You need definitiv more time (later) for trading runs. The Cat is same Ship Class, has good Load/Unload Gates. But i love the Carrack and have one. A Cat i buy perhaps in Verse, ingame, if i think i need one. My look going too C2 Herkules, more SCU then Cat and looks very good. Good for transport Verhikels for Bases, so you need a C2 or M2 later in Verse, good invest for future.

Look up 2019 star citizen reality sale, the day that sells previously offered ships will sell the cat at $285 better than all of these ships in my opinion. There is more SCU space than most of these and it’s able to land on planets unlike the hull c

Yes. Cat are the best im Moment, but i dont like the style. no real Money for e Cat. Drake is low cost Manufaktor, so can i buy it good ingame. I buy ships, if i love it, so i think, Hercules Starlifter is a good alternative for Cat. but Cat is better, i know. Cat has not only so much Cargo, good Lifters for fast Load and Beam for load in in Space. Low Price and good Weapon too, its hard too resist not too buy a Cat.

If your "cargo" happens to be manned Titan suits, the Cutlass should be able to fit one in each side door and rear ramp. That's "storage" configuration not available to the other ships on this list. Just saying...

I have a regular Freelancer from way back when it was the old model design (RIP front leg stairs) but haven't really played much since then. I was thinking of upgrading my Freelancer to something like the MAX and STL gives it the recommend... but when they finally launched the MAX, wasn't there something stirring up controversy or something? I can't remember what it was but I thought there was something that got people really riled up. So just wondering based on STL and community... do you think the MAX is a good idea to upgrade to? Or what about the DUR? I've been out of the game a really long time. The original plan was going to be me and a friend, him bodyguarding me as I hauled the stuff, split the money, etc.

There was a lot of complaining about the cockpit rework. Mostly due to the visibility reduction from the front seats. CIG actually went back and made changes to open up the view by a bit, but not much. I think they somewhat narrowed the window frame and/or struts.

Depends how much the Carrack ends up getting. I suspect it won't be that 1000scu listed on the page, and will be nerfed somewhere below the Caterpillar, just like the 890 was.

@@JustCallMeEm. but it's a bloody big ship. And I'm sure 1000 SCU of cargo space was one of the selling points. I believe there was something about "4 modular bays" in the early concept. At least 1 RU-vidr was under the impression that each one could be made as a cargo bay, if that's how you wanted to configure it. And why not 19x14x4 is over 1000. That's less than 25x20x5 meters. Smaller than the hanget of the 890. Now maybe you can't hold the pisces, a rover, AND 1000 SCU. but take out the snub and rover and you should have plenty of room.

I watch several videos of this game and was going to buy it even with all the bugs, then I found out they reset ALL of your progress every 1-3 months. After they stop doing that, I'll probably buy this - but it being in alpha for 7 years, I won't hold my breath. Real shame too - I play elite & NMS - but this looks more fun.

I am certain the Connies will see a major overhaul, it is lagging behind every other ship in almost all aspects now. I've got no skin in the game, but I am currently flying a Connie as a loaner until I get my carrack, and it has not aged well compared to the newer ships released.. By the time Taurus enters the fray I am willing to put some money that the connies will see some improvements that make them worth considering. Don't see how the max will handle better in atmos as the connies has a full Vtol mode that currently does nothing...

still in concept. probably what I'll go with tho and use the freelancer loaner in the meantime. Currently $90, much cheaper than the Freelancer Max at 3x the cargo.
