huh? 4.0 was the Q3 patch, it got pushed back and 3.24 became the Q3 patch What became 3.24 was the second half of features that were supposed to come in 3.23 and then in 3.23.2 Even the stripped down 3.23 missed the end of Q2 release and was a bit late. Now instead of talking about 4.0 they're talking about a 3.24.2 and gutting 4.0 features to put in to it, i bet that is what becomes our q4 patch. How does that indicate good progress to you? In my mind theyre still playing catch up... and losing.
@1aatlas getting 4.0 out the door and having it be another 3.18 isn't the goal. Pushing it back. Doesn't undercut getting the new system map mini map more varied bounty hunter missions new locations on planets. New cargo mechanics. New ships. And personal hangers. The new features are being put in faster and with better results when compared to the previous year. Thats what im looking at. Not jist 4.0 yes or no
@@r92871 You see... Server meshing is the only thing that matters to me and its been like that for years. Im not saying they should release things in a broken state, im saying theyre way behind their planned schedule for this year and are delivering thigs late according to their own projections, while you were saying that we've seen MORE progress. i laid out my examples of them missing their own targets this year, even last quarter... that is all.
More server meshing tests later today. Here's hoping that they've managed to fix enough issues to get the 1,000 player test to not fall over immediately, and maybe push it even further!
After watching the last ISC of the year, I am super excited for things to come. I think the verse is going to change for the better. It is going be a massive change for larger, multicrew ships. I am STOKED!
So much has been done lately and more meshing tests means it’s more likely to see pyro sooner. Everything looks great so far. Can’t wait for my Zeus tho.
Would be nice if caves had more to do, such as maybe having to deal with bounties hiding in them, item recovery, resource extraction (mining), harvesting, data collection (mapping out the cave)
There are bounties in caves. They actually pay better, at least at the lower levels, than the ship-based ones. You have to fight their crew along the way to them. Also, I believe you can mine in the caves as I've seen resource nods in them and in the afore-mentioned bounties, you can get hadanite, dolivine, and aphorite if you loot the bodies.
Problem in 3.24.1 that's a pain is that selling commodities at cities is unreliable. There can be situations where containers are sold at a trade terminal and subsequently accepted on the trade elevator as part of the transaction - but no aUEC payment results. There can also be situations where containers in the warehouse that should be 'seen' by the trade terminal are invisible and so cannot be sold.
I think it would be beneficial for the project as a whole for CIG to adopt a release schedule more like this instead of holding features back for a major patch. When something is done, release it in a point patch.
the Surface Hostile NPCS took me by surprise the first time X_X sadly, 2 of them spawned into the decoration crates around the bunker, and were unkillable :(
Several of the features that are moving into 3.24.X are things that were originally in 3.23 or 3.24 and then moved out to 4.0. Likely these are features that don't rely on server meshing and that are almost done as it is. One final push to get them out and then everyone can focus on 4.0.
Bringing in new features as they are ready in my opinion is a good move. Then when a "major" patch happens it doesn't throw everything into chaos while we attempt to relearn how to play.
They did mention that they wanted to deliver smaller features more quickly, or putting things in pieces so that the cargo update does happen again, which makes sense as a current 'agile' developer. Also I don't care at all about glint being realistic or not, it's the best way to balance snipers. In a game like SC, unless you're looking for it, you likely won't notice glint. I'm very excited about those MFDs they look fantastic!
Really? Every new addition (no matter how shallow) has been nice for me , like all the new places in hurston. Persistence was great for finding left overs from others misadventures and your own. Engineering will be another big one since I love harvesring everything I can get off dead/abandoned ships.
LTP 2.0 - hopefully fix the issue of ships disappearing from player ASOP inventories. Seems it's an old bug that is triggering much more often since the hanger changes. Hundreds of people are missing ships they bought in-game. There are also a few people missing ships they bought in real-life/with real-world currency.
im glad that it seems like the reparability decreases and requires specific equipment to do a full repair on items, personally i hope the more it gets repaired the less total durability it gets until u have to replace it
The current patch is the best version by a long way for me. NPCs are much more responsive, graphics are better and general feel is starting to feel like we're getting somewhere....definitely not there, nor approaching a destination or an in fact an actual road, but perhaps the rough gravel of a farmers slip road which your sat navs keeps telling you is the right way to go. I think we're probably going to hit a few (more) space cows along the way and may end up in a ditch a few times, but it's a fun ride at the moment.
I predict a patch before CitizenCon to deliver anything they can from last year's promises before this year's CitizenCon. I also predict a ship patch for IAE in November. *Neither* of these will be 4.0. Pencil in 3.24.2 against the CitCon patch, and 3.24.3 against the IAE patch. I also think there'll be a Christmas patch. There's an outside chance the Christmas patch could be a 4.0 -- but it would be open PTU rather than live. And that depends on everything basically going smoothly with 4.0 from here on out. If we see an SM test between now and CitizenCon where a 400-500 ish player shard is decently functional from the player perspective, Evocati 4.0 is possible between CitCon and IAE. If everything else in 4.0 (it's not just Server Meshing...) turns out to be basically functional as delivered (hah!), 4.0 could come to PTU in waves between IAE and Christmas, and we might see a 4.0 live in Q1. If anything on that path fails, I predict they'll switch tack to a 3.24.4 Christmas patch made of whatever they can drop in that isn't Meshing (or Pyro).
Played SC for the first time last night. Couldnt believe how much faster the game plays. Elevators were nearly instant, fps was higher than ive ever seen and very stable. The tutorial is a big improvment too but not amazing. Hauling missions are very satisfying. But I cannot wrap my head around Master Modes. The whole system feels extremely clunky and not keyboard friendly. I think it could be better with a flight stick. Over all, 3.24 is very playable
I’d rather just get a new feature patch once a month with new content, than wait for months for a patch packed with things. Incremental progress is better than crash and burn every three months.
This year for Christmas we will get S42 😀, it will ease our hunger for Star Citizen for about 6 months... 😁 and then it can only get better, let's be positive about life and the project let's enjoy the little things😃 like🏴☠ pirate week🏴☠ and wait what they say at citizencon, I think we'll get the S42 release date this Christmas 😄
This is rather exciting. While it would be incredibly awesome to get a ton of new features all in one patch, I feel it would be better to have a patch cycle be themed and have a lot of .x patches bring in features that expand on that theme with some minor QOL sprinkled in here and there, so for me as long as they get all of the persistent hangar and cargo hauling stuff knocked out in this 3.24 cycle I would prefer it to be spread out rather than them try to cram it all in one go and break everything
i think they will hit their goal it might be a bit buggy but i reckon they will have it smoothed out in a few weeks after really bringing the game around to actually be a playable game
Largely only interested in server meshing, but still nive to see the other features not being held back with it. Just hope they mostly work when they drop lol
I think that 4.0 should focus on the core tech (server meshing) so I do think offloading some of the new goodies to 3.24.x patches is a good move. A lot of what CIG has to deal with now is damage control on the PR front when it comes to releases - so if Mesh tech takes the spot light because of some fundamental breakdown, and they have kind of a 3.18 scenario where it takes a bit to stabilize, there will still be people screaming about an MFD bug, or a cargo issue, or their Zeus spawns without guns .... Something fairly light in comparison, but still gets a lot of noise since the light was on something else for a time. Not to say those wouldn't be relevant complaints, but priorities 😅
Still no Polaris on the roadmap, and it’s worrying. It’s been anticipated for years, and its absence raises concerns. I hope CIG provides some clarity on its status soon.
I've been really liking the updates lately, and cant wait for the new MFDs and Zeus. and engineering sounds awesome. Really excited for the future of SC
Just found out you can’t tow ships into quantum anymore. What is the point of the SRV if you can’t quantum with what you tow? What ships is disabled within Nav mode range of a station? They need to change this as well
Honestly the most exciting thing to me is seeing if the zeus comes out for IAE , i didnt know about it until last week, and now im insistant on test flying it and trying to either buy it or upgrade my ship to it...its like im in love
Would be time for all those devs that stopped working on SQ42 now make a difference in the PU. Unless they are working on whatever Soul Singer is of course.
Saw a YT creator suggesting that Soulsinger will be the DLC for SQ42 and announced as being in the works alongside the announcement of the SQ42 release date (or release window) at CitizenCon. Guess we'll see whether the creator's right in a few short weeks...
