The new light tank is in the game, along with a second variant more focused on AA. Let's run through the testing that we've done to this point and provide some feedback on the implementation.

I like the storm, but I feel like it looks weird when driving. I thought the track sections would have some independent suspension.

I like the aesthetic; but the Storm overall feels bad to me. A case of expectations versus implementation, I feel.

The design of this vehicle makes it a committed role. Meaning if you operate this vehicle in any scenario you are meant to stay operating it and allowing others to fill in the utility you just dont have.

Of all the Star Citizen content out there, these are my favorite videos. I love the review of the vehicles and the analysis of the value gained vs the cost. Great content!

And the width. This recon tank (1) won’t navigate rocks or trees or hide and (2) has to be flown to the theatre in HUGE ships that give away any recon you were trying to do.

My biggest problem with this "light" tank is it's size. Due to it's ground footprint it barely fits into any more ships than it's harder hitting relative the Nova does. I assumed the purpose of a lighter tank was to be able to be dropped in a lighter dropship like say... The valkyrie. NOPE. Right now it's just less firepower for the same logistics train of a tougher, deadlier vehicle.

I don't like the Storm. It doesn't have enough ground clearance, nor does it have independent suspension. The size is too large for a single operator vehicle which is as wide as a Nova. The design is flawed for any tank, with the entry up front where most hits will happen. If you have a soft kill your escape is too vulnerable, as you also pointed out. The Nova is better with the exit in the back. I especially don't like the Storm AA tank. There are enough AA vehicles already, the Nova has AA, the Ballista is AA, the Cyclone AA and MT.

I’m all for many variants of vehicles that make sense and are easy to just swap a gun on a chassis.

The Storm highlights many of CIG's design shortcomings. It's Form > > > > > > > > > > Function.

I believe you are still falling prey to the solo fallacy. Yes, a storm by itself is not much of a threat to something like a nova. However, lighter vehicles like the storm are not meant to solo larger targets. Instead, they are meant to operate in packs, using their smaller size and relative maneuverability to swarm larger targets to ensure a kill. In regards to the front entrance of the storm, the same applies. A single storm is at a disadvantage against hostile targets, but it is meant to operate as part of a group. They can cover the storm as it retreats to a safe place in order for the pilot to disembark. My point is, there needs to be consideration for ships / vehicles that operate in groups and one-to-one comparisons only tell part of the story.

the hatches on tank normally are either on the front deck or the turret the back is normally saved for the engine with no exits
@SCTimbal

Honestly I think any way you cut it the Storms are meant to be either working together with something else or as a pack. For example, if you pair up with a Ballista people will avoid flying over/near you because they don't know if it is you or the Ballista locking you up. Alternately, 1v1 against something like a Nova won't do it, you'll want to have a platoon of four Storms to take on a Nova, using your mobility to wear away at it. That being said, using four people to take on a single Nova doesn't work out for how to best using your limited manpower.

Honestly hoping for a Space Bradley. Driver, Gunner, Commander. Seating for, say, 4 in the back. Gunner has a repeater and a rack of 4 size 3 missiles, gunner has a twin size 1 cupola gun.

u can disable it with 1 grenade at the back or fire with any aoe damage weapon at the back 1 hit and it´s disabled... all components at teh back has 1 hp sp any aoe dmg will disable the "tank"

I bought both for use in Siege or Orison/repel invaders missions with friends or Ghost hollow where the AA Storm should help a lot. it's a Tumbril Cyclone mini-recon vehicle.

Given the Storm uses an LCD camera display, there's no reason they couldn't have had the entrance at the rear of the tank.

Storm is... weird. I get the concept: an enclosed, armored recon vehicle. For when you need that little bit of extra protection, from enemy fire or more likely: the elements. And more firepower never hurts. But it wasn't built with recon or electronic warfare features in mind. Visually it's clear they wanted to design a cool futuristic tank as an art project first and then come up with a purpose second. Now I would like to see CIG revisiting the Nova with the idea that the internal walking space is removed and instead all the positions are accessible only through dedicated hatches or whatever from the outside. I have an image in my head that the seats are entered to from the top and also can act as ejection seats; in case of critical damage, the crew is thrown out of the tank. This would also let CIG reuse the chassis of the current Nova for a dedicated APC/IFV. Essentially making the Nova's chassis a reasonable size. On a side tangent, CIG also needs to reconsider how some of their weight tech works because their ground vehicles (might also be all vehicles in the game) are just insanely heavy. The Nova is 150 tonnes, Storm is close to 100, the bloody Cyclone is 30 tonnes! Also I'm honestly wondering about the logic of why these heavy combat vehicles don't have better components. All size 0? Why? If I was someone looking to really kick it into gear with the Nova, I'd try and fit in at least one S2 shield generator and whatever power and coolers I'd need to keep that going.

I think the angle of access is a non-issue. For the same reason any modern Tank Platform could be critzised for having the exit on top of the tank where you can be shot from any direction. The Storm is not an APC with protected exit routes for the crew. If the driver needs to exit during a fight he could present the side instead and use the cover of the tracks. The Storm is a scout tank by design and is less suited for frontal assaults and more about scooting around obstacles and flanking the enemy. This might be a consideration for "lone-wolfers" that just use the tank to drive around idly on their own, but for the intended combat operations I do not think the exit route is a problem.
@805Peej
@805Peej 8 месяцев назад
However, this is a game, where a tank crew won't just sit in their tanks after their job is done to let the infantry go do their jobs. This is exacerbated by the overall weakness of the Storm and how easy it is to soft-kill. That would be fine if it really was a fast, nimble scout tank... but it isn't fast enough to make that feasible. And it's far too large of a target for this, anyway. This was a very poor design that seems to have been created by artists rather than people who understand ground combat in Star Citizen.
@elfwyn8707
@elfwyn8707 8 месяцев назад
@@805Peej Armor and Shield Balance is not nearly balanced out yet. I judge vehicles on their intended role and not on the current state of the game. Especially in a 1-crew-tank leaving it in a combat situation would be the same as abandoning it, so it literally is the job of the Tanker to let the Infantry do their job.

Sadly their is no such thing as a scout tank... and if you were going to use a vehicle for scouting then the cyclone RN would be way better then the storm. This is the other problem cgi have
@elfwyn8707
@elfwyn8707 8 месяцев назад
@@Mr_Tea_Rexx At the moment there is no meaningful scanning gameplay. Once it is the Storm will have less signature than a Nova and more Armor than a Cyclone. There might be other light Scout Tanks coming that are even faster and that have better scanning arrays but this is the first one.

I still standby my post on spectrum on the discussion I was having about the storm. It's just a anit infantry vehicle and wish they would do their research on their vehicle creations in terms of knowledge and identifying them correctly cause AA is solely anti air and not ground and the storm isn't what ppl think it is. It's just to weak to take on larger vehicles. And was just overhyped by the marketing team.

7:25 How did a full clip of 76 shots not drop the Nova's shields? One shot is 350dmg, the Nova only has 3x 750hp shields for a total of 2250hp. As for Storm vs. Nova, the way to fight a Nova in a Storm would likely be to spam at it from long range. The Reign-3 has a 5km range (...) and much higher velocity than the Nova's gun, meaning the Nova might struggle to land shots on a moving target on this range, but if you just spam the Storm's gun some of it would hit. I think both are outrageous stat-sticks in hope to force vehicles into combat viability, but I'd rate the Storm higher purely because it has a energy weapon and doesn't rely on resupplies. I could use one to take out bunker defenses all day long. Personally, I'd rather have a Semi-Truck and a Truck Simulator 3000 Gameplay loop. Also, I wouldn't say no to a Magrider.

I don’t have a lot of issues with the Storm’s design and appreciate the availability and ease of access of the component and weapon racks. Even the entry/exit in the front isn’t too much of an issue for me since I see this as a light tank that’s focused for anti-infantry and anti-light vehicle fighting and while having an entry/exit in the front on a machine in today’s world would be crazy to do, in this distant sci-fi timeline I’m okay with it. The biggest issue for me with the Storm/Storm AA are all of the bugs that still need to be fixed when using it. There are a lot of bugs that one experiences with it currently.

Yeah, confirmed on the actual driving feel of the Storm are just off. It's a very cool-looking vehicle, and I could see it having its niche, but they need to tweak the way it drives, for sure.

Personally, I have too many gripes with this vehicle. Climbing in and out of the front, a really wide physical stance that makes it close to Nova-sized, and while a "virtual screen" is "cool", why is it so narrow as if it's an actual slit / window?

Storm AA is nice as it deters aircraft away. Now if you have a team of Storm AA. Maybe lilke 3-4, I feel they can kepe the skies clear. If they made ONE Storm AA be able to take out ships easily, it'll be overpowered and annoying.

I think you need to bear in mind that the storm will likely function as a pair, at least imo. I’m sure CIG takes this into account. A couple of storms zipping around will be challenging for most vehicles.

I made a post on Spectrum a long time ago. I based my statements on 12 years of experience in what is still the only combined arms 24/7/365 battlefield. WWII Online. What you learn very quickly is that air assets are very OP vs ground units, and it's very unrealistic. To maximize fun, you have to give the ground units a distinct advantage. When you do that, the battlefield starts looking more realistic, given two roughly equal opponents. Our opinion of what is realistic is colored by the fact that Western militaries are so OP vs their opponents.
