My very first exposure to video games as a child during the 1990s was this very game. I am now 30 years old and the very impact that the Snes Star Fox left on me is still felt today everytime I replay it. I gained my fascination for 3D polygons and modeling thanks to the game's nostalgic graphics and awesome looking scenery. I'd say I wouldn't be the person I am today hadn't it been for Dylan and his team who worked on this. Congrats on 30 years and thank you soo much for helping shape my childhood long ago. Keep on flying high in our hearts, Star Fox!💖
I was like seven years old I think and was the same basically. Th first game on saw played was some motorcycle racing thing butnthenfirstnonnowned as Starfox! I was born in 1991
I remember being a kid and the name Dylan Cuthbert jumping out at me from the credits, I suppose because it's such an unJapanese name. I was shocked years later when I got to the credits of Star Fox Command and saw the same name!
I know I am late but what an absolute treat this was, thank you for doing this. I was 6 when Star Fox released, this game with Legend of Zelda ALTTP and SMW was my childhood. My mom rented Star Fox for me, I still remember to this day sitting in the dark basement, glow of the wooden Zenith console TV, Star Fox going full bore, blew me away and I was hooked. Still have my copy I got for Christmas later that year, LCD Star Fox watch from eating way too many cornflakes, and a blue/white baseball cap sporting "Star Fox Light Years Beyond". Thanks Dylan and everyone else on the team back then for everything, cheers to 30 more years.
I loved this as a kid, so much that I used to make Arwings out of boxes and pretend my brother was Andross 🤣 Great to hear all about the dev work. I was gutted when Starfox 2 was cancelled at the time, having it on the SNES mini though was retro heaven 😆 route 2 and 3 always got the better of me back in the day at various parts. The king dodra dragon/chicken thing on route 3 stage 3 is pure evil! One of the things I really loved with this game was the black hole and out of this dimension levels. As far as I remember, only Star Fox Zero has secret levels, but they certainly don't compare to being attacked by paper planes and taking on a slot machine boss 😂
This just made our day! Thanks for the kind words and for sharing your memories of the series, it's really close to our hearts too. Your brother definitely got the short straw having to be Andross hahaha
Thank you! Star Fox (in Germany Starwing) was a big part of my childhood. I play it regularly every now and then up today. It is very cool to get some background info. I think an important part to the atmosphere of the game is also the music in the different stages. Very creative and fitting. So also a big thanks to the music creators from my side.
Awesome, wonderful video. Appreciated the rythm & switching between the game and the interview! Nicely done. Happy anniversary Star Fox. I hope one day we'll also get the same treatment for the direct sequel!
This was so fantastic! I wish more game designers posted playing and talking about their experiences working on classic titles. Loved this video, and StarFox was such a wonderful game.
I've always had a soft spot for the Star Fox games! It was rather fascinating to see them go through the development of the OG Star Fox from 30 years ago. And Star Fox Command as well! Given Q-Games history, they are clearly extremely capable when making space shooters. I, for one, loved the PixelJunk Side Scroller and PixelJunk Shooter 1 and 2! Hope we'll see more of this genre from this company in the future. I hope this video gets a decent amount of attention. I'm going to do what I can to spread this video around!
Dan Owsen did the voice at the end. He mentioned it in an interview with the Metroid Database. Also did the Last Metroid speech in Super Metroid as many fans know.
Excellent commentary and wonderful insight onto the development of the first game! I loved hearing your naming process for those three, love how logical it was, haha! Thanks for putting this video up!
Great video! Very cool to hear that Dylan's favorite game in the series is Command. I agree. I played that game for countless hours back when it came out. It's an absolute blast with so many creative and cool things going on and I wish more people could appreciate it! It would be cool to see a similar commentary video to this one for that game.
Thanks so much for making this *AMAZING* piece of a game! I got it when it came out in '93 and I still play it to this day. :) Amazing graphics, amazing music and sound, amazing characters, amazing gameplay, amazing controls, amazing story... Amazing everything! ;D A *PERFECT* game in its own right. Totally superb achievement by you guys. ;)
Excellent video. I've always loved the secret areas in this game. The black hole and out of this dimension. I still play Starfox/wing to this day so many many thanks for this.
I was the canadian champion for the super star fox weekend competition. It was held by a third party marketing company. I still have pictures and the wind breaker style jacket
Rail shooters I recommend are Ex Zodiac, gridd retroenhanced, and Astrodogs all of which you can play on Switch. Another option that really looked like Starfox is (Whisker Squadron: Survivor). However thats only on Steam.
Didn't know you had a youtube account. Subscribed. Thank-you for inspiring me as a child, and being the reason I took mathematics and physics at an early age. I love what I do and I hope you do too :)

Greetings Dylan! Awesome video. We are tremendous Star Fox fans and are going all-out to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the series at our event this October in Upstate New York. Could we contact you to ask a couple of questions?
