I'm pretty sure Rare wanted to give Scales an actual boss fight, but they just didn't have enough time. I heard that because of Microsoft's purchase of Rare, the development for StarFox Adventures got rushed and they had to wrap things up pretty quick.
I enjoyed this game.. but even after all these years after beating this game, I could never get closure as to why the game developers decided that you don't fight Scales.
+Andrew Faria In the soundtrack you can access in the game, there is an unused song that was probably meant to be Scales' fight song. You can tell it from the similarities with the "Scales' galleon fight" from the beginning of the game.
@@justaregularguy3827 Not only that, but Starfox Zero basically wrote out the entire Adventure game. On their way to Corneria they make mention of leaving Suarian. No mention of Krazoa, Krystal, Sharpclaw, Scales nor Andross. Adventures was meant to be a continuation after the Lylat Wars, no idea what Assault was. But with Zero, both games are now noncanon.
@@Tienhamir100 No idea what the two of you are on about. Adventures was a completely different property, Dinosaur Planet, before at the last second Miyamoto came in and told Rare to slap Starfox on it. Considering the loads of unused content pertaining to the old story, and how out-of-nowhere the Andross fight comes, + The Microsoft buyout looming in the horizon at the time, it's most likely they just didn't have time nor enough reason to care about giving him a final fight anymore when Andross was gonna upstage him and they were busy enough throwing in all the Starfox content.
Neil Joseph Consolacion True. If you get enough maze cheat coins, you start getting fortunes instead of cheats. They tell you what is to come in the future. It foreshadows Falco returning to assist you and it also has Fox's dad telling him to push on and to believe in himself. That even though life has shadows, he has to remember that every shadow is possible because of light.
I'm pretty sure that nobody bought the whole "Krazoa God" thing. Especially since by that time, Fox has become an expert on all things Krazoa, and they haven't mentioned a Krazoa God even once.
I think he really did die. Most likely he was already in contact with the spirits and with the planet even before he died. Even if not, it's already shown that even his spirit is capable of shitting around in the universe ("Farewell dear Falco" comic, Star Fox Command)
It seems Falco in this game is playing a similar role that Fox’s dad James McCloud played in Star Fox 64. In fact, I think the fact that Falco is wearing sunglasses when he first arrives is possibly a reference to him playing a James McCloud type of role.
It's super jarring going straight from the 64 Andross fight to this one. In Star Fox 64, Andross's face is very animated, expressive, and he's always tracking you with his eyes. Here, aside from his initial roar, he literally just stares into space while mouth-breathing, which makes his attacks feel very nonchalant.
I know right. Here it barley looks like he’s even trying to swat at you considering how fast his hands move. In 64 they moved with great speed and at times were tough to dodge.
Andross: General Scales, you are no longer use to me. Scales: Who are you? Andross: Don't fight Fox, because you're part of Microsoft now, I'm licensed to Nintendo so I have the only right. Scales: But I've been waiting to fight him since the beginning of the game, I will fight him like it or not. Andross: You are not programmed to fight him anyway. Scales: *tries to attack him, he can't* NO! Andross: Now give him the final Krazoa Spirit and die. Scales: You are gonna regret this Microsoft!
@@arceusthecreator9746 lmao sure and I bet you like call of duty and fortnite as well? Funny how Microsoft takes the two in and immediately makes their newest game crap.
Jerrid120 I’ve never played Command but I’ve heard a lot of negative things said about it regarding it’s story and the treatment of it’s characters. I just like to pretend the series ended with Assault and move on until a proper game comes along that builds upon what the first three games established.
Dylan Cuthbert is making a new Starfox game that takes place in the middle of Command, but there’s no endings, the storyline will be changed, I think, and hopefully Krystal and Fox will rekindle their love and relationship after he takes a bullet for her to show her how wrong he was in forcing her off the team and Krystal is reinstated back.
"Now you must face me!" I guess not...? Scales just decides to obey that random voice and apparently kill himself because... reasons. The entire game they were building up to the final confrontation with Scales and they don't even let you smack him around a bit with the staff. I was actually okay with Andross being the final bad guy and Scales being an underling to him, but Andross just comes out of nowhere. I think an abridged version of the conversation between Scales and Andross would be something like this: "Give Fox the Krazoa Spirit!" "Why should I listen to you?!" "Because I'm invisible and I'm telling you what to do!" "Okay..."
General Scales is similar to Zant from Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess. Both tyrannical beings were given power after they (or in Scales case his tribe) were denied it, by the previously defeated main antagonists on their respective series. Both are used as pawns for their masters resurrection who return just after they meet their downfall. The main difference however is you get to kick Zants ass, while Andross betrays and kills Scales for you forcing you to fight him instead. Another difference is that Zant is clearly aware of Ganondorf and even hints that he returned during his battle with Link, Scales on the other hand ironically (as shown here) is totally unaware of Andross despite serving/being associated with him.
Well, Unlike General Scales, who's just a murderous power-hungry tyrant, Some of Zant's actions are realistically screwed, like in Lakebed when he treats Midna as an object, such as where he whispers "I need you..." into her ear with his mouth while she's unable to move, and even says "My Midna," is likely a portrayal of sexual predation, which is pretty messed up, even by Nintendo Standards.
He gives you bombs for the battle and that's something. Also you should read the manga "Farewell, Beloved Falco". It explains why he left and the manga is canon and takes place between 64 and Adventures.
Este juego fue mi infancia, es un juegazo. La música, el carisma de los personajes, el mundo abierto wow 😍 ojala lo saquen en algun port para switch aunque lo dudo :(
Don't care what anyone says, I love this game. It may not be "Star Fox," but it was so unique compared to the other games in the series. But, only Star Fox game I hate is Command, so I love all the Star Fox games.
Eratin Person Then again, maybe the voice isn't all that unfitting. In the N64 game, he wanted to rule Lylat, his deep sounding voice portrayed a calm and in charge tyrant. Here, for some reason, he just wants to destroy it. Guess the monstrish voice is fitting in that regard?
Such a childhood memory! I remember this bossfight! It was so challenging at first but everything leading up to it was awesome! The tension, the music and the shock that it was Andross the whole time!
For anyone disappointed that they didn't get to fight Scales, just so you know it's Microsoft's fault that why Scales boss fight wasn't in here. Nintendo was going to put in the Scale boss fight but couldn't because they ran out of time due to the fact Microsoft buying out Rare so they had to wrap up the game with any final boss they could think of so that's why.
Actually, it's Nintendo's fault. If Miyamoto hadn't decided to shoehorn Star Fox into Dinosaur Planet in the first place, we'd have gotten to fight Scales as a Sabre or Krystal, but instead we got this shit
@@shadekerensky3691 People literally never shut up about Banjo and Kazooie, and yet, the closest we got the a sequal is the fucking Nuts and Bolts game.
Scales was always the most badass video game villain to me. His end is just... erk. But I always wondered: did he die when releasing the spirit? Or maybe he just collapsed? I never really understood.
+Frname i think is best not to ask for it. this game's ending was so rushed you can notice there was absolutely no boss fight with Scales and Andross wasnt even supposed to be part of the whole story, so you will notice A LOT of plotholes in the ending. and it was rushed because Rare had no more dev time for this game due to miyamoto wanting the game to be released on Gamecube and as a Star Fox game instead of N64 and as a title totally unrelated to Star Fox. not to mention by the time this game was developing for GC, Microsoft was already buying Rare, so they no longer cared about how the game was being developed.
Notice the Sharpclaw at 11:48 Holding up the Belt of General Scales. My guess is this sharpclaw IS General Scales, after he gave up on his desire for power. As andross said, "Your desire for power overwhelmed you and blinded you to the truth inside."
@@yoshinari3679 Yeah likely meaning that Scales was a victim of his own power that is what happens when you let power go to your head. I do love how the Sharpclaws cheer for Fox. That's actually really cute.
@@yoshinari3679 I always thought that sharp claw was just holding the belt up. I was like “screw this guy he slaved us around.” so as fox was passing by and his plane, he could see that they were raising his belt up as a victory kind of like good riddance
@@onepieceguy2659Doesn't Assault count? It does take place a year after Adventures. At least the fangame Star Fox: Event Horizon is expanding more on Sauria in hopes of making it fit within the Star Fox universe. You should definitely check it out!
Whether or not it's a starfox game, who actually cares? I don't understand the obsession with having to have every single game in a franchise the same. Either way, this game was amazing and still for me after over 10 years, is enjoyable.
I love the game too but it has cons. The dinosaur guy who need to push in a hole is hard af, dinosaurs sleep at night so you have no choice to wait but it's still a fun game.
@@thepeskyone I get that. But every game has flaws. My favourite games have things that really piss me off even to this day, but I guess a lot of my love for this game comes from nostalgia
The GameCube era was a unique aesthetic period for Nintendo, there was always this combination of ancient temples and ruins mixed with Sci-Fi high technology.
Star Fox 64 voice acting was actually really good. Then again, games back in the 90s that Ive played and got used to were Resident Evil 1 and Perfect Dark. Compared to the Star Fox 64 had amazing voice acting.
I love how Andross' Boss Theme for this game is a combined heavily-altered remix of his Standard and Brain form themes from Star Fox 64. David Wise did a phenomenal job adapting them. It's a tragedy that Scales didn't get a proper boss fight after he was established as the central narrative antagonist of the game, but the fact that this game had to rush through the final stages of development before Microsoft bought them out (to hear it from the team, when Shigeru inquired if they were interested in turning Dinosaur Planet into a Star Fox game, they were gung-ho on the idea, but due to the amount of reworking required, they decided to move development from the soon-to-be-discontinued N64 over to the GameCube. About a year later, Microsoft approached with an offer Nintendo couldn't afford to counter in buying out Rare completely, which forced an artificial deadline on the game) is a perfectly understandable reason why. It's apparent in the fact that the Microsoft buyout was literally completed the day after Adventures released.
This game should've stayed as Dinosaur Planet and they should've instead made a Star Fox game that was a Gamecube release that expanded upon Star Fox 64. The way they handled Andross just kind of urks me, especially since the villain you followed the entire time was pushed aside at the very end. They could've done SOMETHING for his boss. Granted, I don't hate this game. In fact I liked it as a kid, and even now I still enjoy it. It's just after playing Star Fox 64 I wish that this game had more elements of what made Star Fox so cool. Also, where in the hell did Falco come from? They just pushed him in last minute just like Andross. Also, Slippy's voice makes me wanna shit myself. I'm glad he doesn't play a major role.
The game itself is really good. The "no fight for you, scales" sucked balls (Seriously, just beat him and THEN make Andross appear. Atleast you beat his ass personally) and it wasn't really a Starfox game... I loved it nevertheless. A great Adventure game and I'd love a sequal...But that won't happen :/
Then play Starfox Assault on the Gamecube. I love that game. It manages to balance out Arwing, Landmaster, and on foot sections almost perfectly in my opinion.
this may have not been the starfox game everyone wanted but i love it! have such a nostalgia for this game. There were several games from the Gamecube era that not many liked but i did.
As much as I love this game, I really wish they had more time to put in a Scales boss and then use Drakor as they were originally going to instead of Andross as the final boss.
The game good yes but the ending sucks. I really wish Microsoft didn't buy them out (It was due to being bought out that they couldn't makes Scales a boss). I also blame Nintendo and Rare for letting it happen. All three have there reason for doing it (In Nintendo case, not doing it) but it all just blows in the end
MrSnakearter let me tell you something at least you had a boss i know some games that are worse and did not have a boss like mass effect 3 and some halo's and alien: colonial marines, the boss was just there to look pretty, sure general scales was to do that but the twist ending is what really caught my eyes, hey i thought i defeated Andross in the last game Starfox 64, oh well he's back now and the level of difficulty as a child it is what made me think that starfox adventures deserved at least an 8 out of 10
Would've been great if you fought General Scales first, then fought the Krazoa side of Andross on foot using the staff, then Andross reveals himself and you fight him in the Arwing in the final phase of the boss battle. Botched opportunity to have an epic 3 phase boss battle. Still a good game tho
Stephen Byrne Because he was bored with the lack of missions the Star Fox team was getting (which is also why the arwing in this game looks so beat up). And I think he and Fox had a bit of a falling out too in the comic
I know the details from Rare buyout and all. But from the time they were given i think they did an awesome job. They were rushed but still gave a decent suprise ending. When i first played this i was in shock when Andross appeared. It was like i was thrown back into starfox 64 with a serious shooting and equipment disadvantage, and i loved it! I was sweating and had chills as i battled Andross he was the LAST character i had expected to see. SO with all the drama going on i think they took what they had and STILL nailed it on a good final surprise, boss. He was NOT as easy as this video makes him seem lol.
When the Boise Police Department officer jumps into his patrol car and go into fight mode with the powerful boss who is grading Krystal so she won't leave
I only just noticed that the SharpClaw grunts took Scales' belt off after he gave Fox the Krazoa spirit. I was always confused why they had it in the ending.
I like to imagine like the other tribes, the Sharpclaws were enslaved and had no choice but to abide under Scale's rule as his "loyal" henchmen and army (which theoretically makes more sense for the celebration party at the end)
Lol the final act was literally the biggest fail of this game, Not only do we get robbed of a could be very badass boss battle with General Scales but Andross the main antagonist of this franchise is just slapped into this game at the very last minute with no signs of him being present.
The way his face just completely melts the moment his health reaches zero, and then he just unceremoniously explodes is perhaps one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen in a video game.
Star Fox Adventures was a good game that tried to rebrand itself as more than an on-rail space shooter, and its failure lead to Star Fox Zero, a stale on-rail space shooter that was more of the same with nothing ground breaking added. There, I said it.
you could have fought andros ship...but no, you fought his giant head...in space...shooting rockets and lasers out of mouth and eyes. design only people of the 90ties can understand XD
Seeing this video brings good memories and I don’t mind that andross was the final boss but really wish they could’ve give General Scales a really good fight vs Fox 😢
God Slippy's voice is annoying here! At least in Starfox 64 and Starfox Assault, it fit well with his character but not here....... It sucked! As for Andross's voice, he sounds like he's from Jamaica! I half expected him to say "mon" at the end of each sentence and when he blew up, I expected him to shout "AW MONNNNNNNNNNNN!! KABOOMMMMMMMM!!!!".
"We meet again, 'mon!" Scales! 'Mon! Give the nice 'mon what he needs 'mon!" "I have been looking foward to this day, to see you again 'mon!" "BOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM....'mon!"
This is still one of my favorite RU-vid comment sections of all time lmao. I just busted up laughing again two years later! Anyone got anymore 'mon jokes for Andross?
@@terrance2481 But that game isn't part of this series because it was just another reimagining of the original Star Fox SNES game, along with Star Fox 64.
"RAREWARE! You are no longer any use to me!" "Who are you?! I demand you show yourself!" "I am the one who allowed you into this world! The Star Fox team could see me, but you could not." "I don't understand." "No, I didn't think you would. Your desire for a fully fleshed out game overwhelmed you, and blinded you to the truth inside. Now, return Fox where he belongs. Give him his Arwing, so he can be the space shooter he was meant to be!" "You will regret this..."
I really hate how they just dropped Scales as a final boss and just shoehorned Andross in at the last minute. Such a great game just to be watered down out of nowhere
I gotta say, after playing through this game in one sitting recently (you do some crazy shit when your net goes out...), I've gotta say, this game was... Really not as bad as everyone says it is. Sure, it didn't live up to the potential it should have had as either a proper Star Fox game or as its original incarnation as Dinosaur Planet, but as something that happened, it's still perfectly playable. Ground combat is fine, space combat is fun and intense at times, and the graphics are still nice to look at to this day. My only real, personal complaint was how easy it all felt. Wasn't enough hard difficulty to be had, even with Andross. It felt rushed at parts, no thanks to Rare's looming buyout at the time of development, there's some goofy dialogue and some hammy voice acting on top of that, and a curious fixation on the now-sexualized Krystal character (thanks, Rare) which causes some scenes to teeter on the fine line between humorous and awkward. Even in light of that, however, it's certainly a unique specimen, unlike any Star Fox game I've played... in a good way, oddly enough. The lack of focus on the flying sections made me look forward to them all the more, and value their presence in the game, even if they were there just to break up the gameplay for the sake of variety. In fact, I played Assault and 64 a day after, and felt myself becoming fatigued after a while with the constant, non-stop action. I know it's a matter of opinion, but I found myself enjoying the action in Adventures more, due to its pacing. Not to mention Dragon Rock, which was a whole action section in and of itself, going back to basics with the whole _"shoot the fuck out of everything that moves"_ gameplay Star Fox is known for, yet everyone seems to forget exists. Not to mention the pretty awesome King Red Eye boss, which plays host to some of the more memorable sequences in the game while having a nice touch of Jurassic Park to it at points. It may not be the game everyone hoped for, but it is what it is. It ain't perfect, it may not be traditional, but hell, it's far from the worst game out there, and even in light of its squandered potential, it's not impossible to enjoy it, even in an environment as pessimistic as the gaming community. *EDIT:* I loved the music in this game, too, personally. ;)
+Poe Ghost Dragon Rock was a FUCKIN PAIN IN THE ASS. That's why everyone seems to forget about it! That cursed cloudrunner should burn in hell. I home he died in Assoult.
Poe Ghost Im just replaying this game because its been years since I play it and wanted to remember stuff from it.The exploration is fun and the music is amazing but some parts of the story, voice acting, and dialogues are really stupid and corny lmao still a fun game
A nice feature they should of done is that the scene when Andross first appeared was a lot more thought out with dialog and that his eyes actually followed the player.
Lol, I'm sorry, but this boss fight is so bad, that mask has more emotion on its face than Andross does when he swings. Also Falco sounds more like Bill.
I enjoyed my time, got invested in the world, was generally satisfied. Then this happened.... Guy I expected to be the final boss for the entire game I didn't even get to swing at (even though the fight was obviously there.) This became one of 3 titles I've ever returned to the store just because of this ending. I was furious.
@@WilhelmScreamer Mario Sunshine because I literally beat it in 3 days, and Halo 1 because I was literally too bored by everyone's favorite part (flood).
Two things. First, what the hell's up with Andross's voice? Was his old voice actor unavailable? Second...I know this has been said multiple times, but the "fight" with Scales was a huge disappointment. If you were going to reintroduce Andross you could have had us fight Scales halfway throughout the game, and THEN bring in Andross. Imo, Andross isn't a villain you just throw in at the last minute, I feel like he deserves more respect than that. They could've revealed his nature as the main villain, have us go through several more stages in space this time (and much longer ones too) and then fight him. But, seeing as how this wasn't even meant to BE a Starfox game in the first place, I guess my expectations are set too high....
it wasn't ectaully because of the fact it became a starfox game: the dev studio was being bought by microsoft and time ran out. that's why many thing were scrapped.
@Nick M (OP) (Re: Voices) Literally every character returning from Star Fox 64 got new voices. That said, the voices of Peppy, Slippy, Falco, and Fox all came back from _Super Smash Bros. Melee_
oh geez i replayed this game many times, i ALWAYS got disappointed of not fighting him everytime the cutscene appears... It's really like trolling with that. Like, you see the fight starting for just one half-second between the cutscenes. They could put the two cutscenes together but they didn't. it really looks like we get trolled XD
Max le Fou cus it was rushed and they had to cut out the fight with Scales... Falco was also supposed to come at that time to help you, instead of just in space from nowhere
Starfox adventures was a LoZ game and General Scales was the Ganondorf boss you got so worked up just to not really fight. It's like that LoZ game you never wanted.
I remember playing the hell out of this game as a kid looking forward to the final boss battle against scales and then being disappointed that you don't actually fight him.
