About 22 years ago I played this game. The moment I combined claudes mirror slice (max level), Ashton's sword dance ( max level) and Dias illusion ( max level) on a singular enemy. I realized this game was way ahead of It's time. I sure miss those days....
I swear to God I'm in this comment. 23 years ago is when I played it and I did the exact same thing. Rena, Ashton, Claude, Diaz. Best party hands down!
Not really IMHO that party sucks IMHO Claude OPERA Dias and Chisato/Bowman is the best party bloody armor all 4 of them lv 100 and with Healing Star at 999 uses you will NEVER die Else against Limiter OFF final boss even at lv 255 on earth mode I didn't even last for 10 seconds without using 4x bloody armor users against him. At lv 255 on Earth mode without bloody armor users I didn't even last for 10 seconds against Iselia Queen either which is why Ashton SUCKS and Rena is NOT worth using once Opera is IN the party.
Honestly my favorite part about the skills was using claude's helm splitter too close to the enemy which had a chance to launch Claude to the stratosphere lul
Christopher Cabjuan lol I only had one save file and went in blind so I'm pretty sure I've never even encountered some of these characters. lol I was like, "who the fuck is Chisato??"
Haha right!? I had to find a good place in the game early on to have a second save to get all the other side characters. Once the planet is gone you lose your chance:/
@@ApolloSol Chisato is a great character, as you can probably tell from this video. Almost all her Killer Moves are fast multi-hitters, and she is a generally cool woman.
@one one The world turns out to be a simulation. The universe Star Ocean takes place in is a simulation of these 4th dimensional beings (who are just regular humans, I think, but from the perspective of a person from a simulation, I guess they'd seem like they come from a higher dimension) called Eternal Sphere, which is kinda like a video game or something.
@one one They do exist. They're just really complex AI, at least from the perspective of the 4D people. Basically, to the Star Ocean characters, the 4D people are like gods.
I am worried that likely won't happen. If you look at the spells in the trailer they no longer pause combat. I think that's a great change for the pacing of battles but then how do we get the cinematics of Sothern Cross and Meteor Swarm? *cries in PS1*
The part where you choose one character and the other experiences demise... But apparently the inhabitants of the said planet whose been living in paradise since forever has already accepted their fate that they would perish...~ how nostalgic~
I didn't even know Proficiency was a thing until I saw Shooting Stars look different after spamming it for so long(srsly Shooting stars is fun to use for me)
Oh yes, the good times... **Run into last boss (with limiter on)** Claude: _BE CAREFUL!_ Dias: "10 seconds." Mirror Slice! Mirror Slice! Mirror Slice! Mirror Slice! Mirror Slice! Mirror Slice! **boss proceeds to be stunlocked in the corner while everybody piles their multihit moves on** **boss dies in like 15-20 seconds** Well, Dias.... you weren't far off afterall.
I don't want to be "that" guy but there's no way y'all beat him that quick, not with the whole animation with Philia (his daughter and limiter) into play unless you were crazily overlevelled 😂.
@@RubenMakaya I was "that guy" who had Lv255 with most of the stuff out of the optional dungeon, with the exception of the Trumpet Boss, so ya. I _was_ crazily overlevelled.
I really don't like the character design on PSP. It looks so much childish. Rena is 17, and in this version, she looks like a 13 years old girl maximum.
Yeah, I know that fully well. But in this case, there is a little more than that. they ditched the ancient design for something with less quality, if you compare both, it's easy to see it. A lot of details is lost.
And unfortunately they took away proficiency from the remake 😕 I also love Rena screaming Tractor Beam. The way she said it always made me laugh as a kid.
Yep! Poison Pills is way too spammable haha. Can easily stunlock enemies, and it hits so many times that the dps is actually insane. Only struggles vs air, but other than that, it's probably the best single move in the game. I still prefer Chaos Sword, though~
all star oceans are now on ps4 except for second evolution and i cannot wait to be on ps4 to have the complete series for the new one coming out this year i hope.
The original actors for Celine, Dias, and Ashton were excellent, and absolutely nailed their personalities. The rest were kind of terrible; inoffensive and unintentionally funny at best and unbearable at worst, so their PSP counterparts were mostly massive improvements. Except for Celine and Ashton, funnily enough, whom I found really disappointing in the PSP version. The guy they got for Dias sounded virtually identical though, albeit a little more expressive.
I like Ernest's original voice, also. He had some funny lines in the Playstation version haha, I used to sit in the voice collection for a long time and try to combine different voice lines into funny phrases. Most memorable one was combining Dias' lines, getting him to say, "I'll get rid of them, in 10 seconds."
I'd love to see this game get the FDR treatment: put the PSP version on modern hardware with the option to have character portraits done by the original artist and voiced by the original actors - in both languages this time. Although I'd forgive Koinuma for not being able to do the Precis voice any more (I'd forgive her for not doing that voice on general principle) just as long as she could still do Celine because she was the best Celine by far, fight me. Would be especially interesting if they got the EX actors back too, but that'd be extremely unlikely. Shame because English EX had my favourite Claude and Rena voices :P
I played the english version first a lot back then, and enjoyed it fine. But now, I realised that the voice acting somewhat inconsistent at times. 😂 like Leon’s voice, sometimes sounds like teen, sometimes sounds like kid.
I remember playing this on PS1 in the 90s. Thought I was great at it. I didn’t even know Leon and Chisato were playable characters! Should I go back? Could I? (Also Leon is OP)
I'm going to play this with Celine and Leon to do gremlin storm. I've played both versions of the game plenty of times but I usually don't use mages (Second Evolution makes them worse.)
proficient hurricane slash was so good threw them into the air and stopped them from attacking for a few seconds. i never used anyone but rena claude dias and ashton
Ashton or Opera and Ernest, Precis or Bowman, Noel or Chisato (if you have 1 slot , because of Opera and Ernest, remaining when Noel ask you to folow you) ???? Many questions you can answer with this video ! Big Up !
Ashton has a better story and is cooler. Mechanically Oprah is slightly better in battle but her character and story is very dry. Ashton is the second best swordsman and if used right can be better than oprah. But it’s situational and requires you to use him. For most fun play through don’t recruit Oprah, Bowman, Ernest, or Leon. Those characters are just too dry... and Leon and Welch are super childish and annoying. I go with Ashton, probably the most original and coolest character in this game. No other hero in any other rpg is like him. Two dragons on his back? Dual swords fighter? And a magic caster? Very cool.
@@beliapadishopee292 yea, she’s the best character in the game mechanically. If ppl want the best mechanical team don’t recruit précis, Ashton, Ernest, Leon, and Celine. But seriously, operas story and bowmans story and characters just aren’t as interesting as Ashton and précis. And Celine is the coolest mage in the first two star oceans. But seriously, they need to do a remake that allows you to choose any group of characters. Cus to be able to recruit both Ashton and opera would be freaking awesome. Cus Ashton is the best recruitable swordsman. Claude, Ashton, and Opera on the same team would be so fun.
Cress similar. It's Phoenix Blast int the PSP version and Fire Bird Shockwave in the PS1 version. This series takes a lot of inspiration from the Tales games. Roddick from Star Ocean 1 for SNES has the same look as Cress in the SNES version of Tales Of Phantasia
Those Snowmen monsters? They're located outside of Giveaway, the town in Nede where you play Hide and Seek with Precis. they drop a ton of EXP and Fol, and even hace a chance of dropping a Rainbow Diamond. I used to farm the hell out them to catch both Chisato and Noel up to the rest of my party
Oh lord, the nightmares I have from hearing "Bang Bang Attack!" constantly when playing this on PS1, lol. Luckily the PSP version cleaned most of this up.
if you got ashton you cant get does two, i think you meet opera in a bar in a town after you back track after the tournament, and by having opera in your team just follow the story and you will get ernest. again just like with Precis and Bowman you have to choose between Ashton and Opera and even Ashton is missable
@@Shadow1589 Broken Heart/Bed of Roses is the most broken attack in the entire game when it's fully levelled. With him spamming that while Claude uses Ripper Blast and Bowman spamming Inferno Pellet/Explosion Pill, along with Opera supporting with Healing Star and Tracking Plasma/Alpha on One, they're basically unstoppable. I've had some very tough runs of the CoT in the past, but when I used those four I tore through it in an afternoon. The real worst character is Precis; her moves don't get enough hits, her hitboxes are really strange, her weapons all kind of suck, and her best attacks are locked behind you recruiting Ashton, who in turn stops you getting Opera and Ernest. Nobody notices this because everybody recruits Bowman anyway - taking Precis basically means skipping three entire better characters and listening to that damn helium chipmunk voice :P
you need to do a private action in cross (city) very, very early in the game to unlock the chain of events that leads to recruiting them. you also can't recruit ashton.
no 2 player mode in north american version, was there 2 player in japanese version? this game was so good that was the biggest mistake no 2 player lol, i loved the voice actors Leon was my fav lots of heart lol, on ps1 of course. the handheld newer remake they made worse voice acting IMO
ah yes... the spells. the one with so many elements and lengthy animation but doing shitty damage, especially on end game. physical classes to the win...
Ernest is trash. But for all you hardcore fans, try using ernest, noel, bowman in a part. It could be a challenge :P (although bowman is good, he can be a struggle because of his auto attack)
That's because he's not meant to be played like Claude and Ashton where you just "Press A to win." His Killer moves are his bread and butter, not his normal attack
bad editing because the huge avatar on the right blocks most of the moves going right, like look at dias section ALSO wtf show the un upgraded versions of them WHICH SUCK AND HAVE LESS ANIMATION i still liked the video tho because the effort put into it so basically its still an 8/10 video DESPITE THOSE FLAWS STILL GOOD
However I'll still only use Claude OPERA BOWMAN Dias and Chisato only EVERYONE ELSE still SUCKS Welch 2nd Evolution only SUCKS and is never in my party ever either.
