Star Ocean The Second Story R Does the JRPG Impossible... 

I haven’t had this much fun playing an RPG in a long time and I have barely started. This game is amazing.

Definitely make the sprites more beautiful and ACCURATE to what the characters looks like. It’s so annoying they didn’t do that with SOSSR. Noel and Precis are some of the worst, the portraits don’t match the sprites at all. This game would be nearly perfect if they had just made the sprites hand-drawn and reflecting their portraits.

I'm having a blast with this game and as a fan its great to see it getting great reviews across the board. I think it would be a big shame if we didn't get another attempt at a big new game though, SO6 The Divine Force was so fun and much better than SO5, just needed a bit more time in development

Their Is Also A Petition On Reddit To Asking Square Enix To Do A Remake On Star Ocean Blue Sphere And Give It The Same Treatment As Star Ocean The Second Story R. & And Just To Let You Know Star Ocean Blue Sphere Is A Direct Sequel To Star Ocean 2.

I think those numbers you brought up for star ocean 6 were physical japan copies sold. Not overall. I swear i remember someone coming out saying they were happy with how well 6 had sold. Im not saying it did ff16 or spuderman 2 numbers by amy means. I had a blast with star ocean 6. I still have to do my latecia playthrough, ill probably stream that one Star ocean 2 remake im having a blast with, streaming claude now and probably going right into renas playthrough right after. Great game and one of my favorite jrpgs to this day. Im glad square finally brought this over and im happy they did it like they did its beautiful Id be perfectly fine if the next star ocean came out and looked like star ocean 2 remake. Please buy physically

Pray for their older titles too. Xenogears , chrono trigger. Believe it or not star ocean 5(the really bad one) sold over 150 k in jp alone on the PS4 and 3. Square should stop trying to appeal to the west and just do what they used to do for their bigger titles

This was the one RPG that I absolutely enjoyed as a kid, but never managed to get far enough into to actually learn what the plot was, given it was my cousins game and I had a limited ability to play it. So because of that, it maintained it's mystique all this time, even as I played and enjoyed a couple other games in the franchise...so when I saw it on Steam, it was an insta-buy. And man, was it worth it. I truly do miss the PS1 era of gaming, especially as he noted, the pre-rendered backgrounds which were absolutely beautiful and detailed masterworks of worldbuilding, not that the remake suffers from it's remade environments. That said, I am probably going to find and play the PS1 original to compare the visuals of some of the later areas.

this game is only so good because long ago star ocean 2 on psx was just amazing , they had already full game they just added few things and changed graphics a little. and ppl love it why? because long ago they made games out of love and not just for money

1st time playing this game , and its soooo goooodddddd , im just amazed that this game is a remake , why old game always had a good story and battle mechanics

I honestly don't mind the modern Star Ocean visuals, nor do I care that much which style they go with. I just care about how the game plays & all the amazing elements that make Second Story R so fun to play! That said, I love the look of the remake, but even if the visuals were different, it wouldn't change how awesome everything else is.

Star Ocean: Second Story is my favourite RPG of all time, and after 4 hours of playing Star Ocean: Second Story R, I can definitively say it's better in every way. It's phenomenal, and I don't use that term lightly. It's not hyperbole. It's just that good. Imagine if they came out with a NEW Star Ocean game in THIS HD-2D style? It has the potential of being the next big thing in RPG trends. Taking a Retro-Future approach to new games. I am so here for it.

Having finished it a few days ago, i think i see what makes it so good, and in my opinion its pacing, the story, the progression of combat, it all eases you into exploring more, into getting creative with items, into actually reading what the characters are saying. While the retro style of graphics is cute, i dont believe thats the reason it gained so much traction (for example octopath traveler 2 didnt do so well). So for next entries i think it is a lot like making a new movie or book, first the plot needs to be interesting, then the characters have to be likable, and then the game mechanics must feel fluid and fun. If they can tick those boxes for the next one, things will look very promising, even if its a small game that you can finish in a week during your downtime from work.

I feel like square enix is starting to figure out what a modern jrpg should be going forward with games like star ocean or octopath traveler

The original ps1 is really good, I cant say that i like the remake more, to me they are even, my favorite is the first star ocean on the super famicom, its a shame it didnt get translated when it came out in the 90s😢

I played the demo and it didn’t hook me. The graphics and story are nice. But the battles I did not like.

While this was an improvement over last year's Star Ocean game, its still fairly poor. This opening ranks near the bottom of SE's 2D Remake games, beneath Live A Live and Tactic Orge Reborn, but just above Chocobo Dungeon. Now, there were some supply problems, especially for the Switch version ... so hopefully it will have some nice legs.

So good, feels like I’m 10 yrs old again playing it for the first time. Really hoping this style of remake catches on and they redo some of the greats of the era in a similar fashion.

This was the only Star Ocean I’d played for a long time. It’s nice seeing it get it flowers and live up to my memories of it.

I just opened up the guild quests in Krosse, and because I already evaded at LEAST 50 times I earned 100,000 Fol. I imagine stuff starts getting very expensive at some point, because if not that guild quest reward was a massive oversight by the developers? Also, I am playing on Galaxy difficulty and it seems all it does is make it to where enemies can drop a character in 2 - 3 hits, which is a cheap and lazy was to artificially make something harder in my opinion. So far it hasn't been a big deal because everything has been easy to evade, but I imagine it won't stay that way once there are like 6 - 8 enemies on screen surrounding/mobbing you.

Now that I've had bodyguard levelling i dont ever want to grind in a remake again.

Play Star Ocean 6 the Divine Force. Sounds like you haven't tried it yet. It was a return to form. It's unfortunate most people didn't give it a chance.

Finally picked up my copy. Wasnt anywhere on shelves in my area, had to order a copy to pickup.

I love this game bro. I really wanted a physical copy but I couldn't find a copy anywhere (I live in Maryland). Every store I went to (I went to 6 stores gamestop best buy target etc..) said that they were only sent 1 copy and it sold. Ridiculous. So I was forced to buy a digital version but I am loving it at 15 hrs in!

I am playing this game on Switch, and i am loving it! My favorite rpg game for ps1 is suikoden 2 and star ocean brings that feeling back s2

i would argue that so 6 low sales, the fault is a "what did you do before" so 5 was poorly received, while so 6 was relatively well received, now so 2 is one of (if not) the best rpgs ever made, and so 2 r improved it in almost every way

I must say that Divine Force for $10 is a really good game. I actually enjoyed The Last Hope as well. BUT.....Second Story R is amazing.

Its wild that us old school JRPG fans complained when they got away from the original style of gameplay back in the late 90s and early 2000s and a big chunck of us were convinced the genre was dead and we jumped ship and started playing mostly western RPGs. And now after 20 years they finnaly figured it out. Yes, we do like the old style of gameplay. Its sad that it took studios this long to get it though their skulls. Cause now you see this everywhere, and its tremendous. Over the last few years I have been blown away by like 5 or 6 JRPGs that I can name and I am happy to say the genre is no longer dead to me.

Star Ocean The Divine Force is really good though. I made a game of the year video about it for 2022. I want to get the second story R eventually even though I already have the original on PS1.

Star Ocean 2 is just a masterpiece, and the rest of them are either okay or terrible. It makes sense for a remake of 2 to do well. I wouldn't get too excited for the future of the series. This is just restarting the reason people buy Star Ocean games despite them being bad. That reason being: Star Ocean 2 is nearly perfect, and they hope the next one will be as good. It won't.

This is the first ever star ocean game ive played(im at the last two bossfights ) And it is spectacular.. surpassed all my expectations

It's not only the best in the series, it's one of the best games I've ever played. I played the original at release and straight no lifed it for months. It got so much right, from the combat, to the story to the crafting. It was phenomenal.

Never played this title, so looking forward to it on the switch and the PS5 portal 😊 great review as always 😅

I remember playing this game as a kid. I've been playing the remake and I love it. Would love to see Grandia and Lunar remakes too...some of the best games ever.

Just started playing this game and having a blast. My only complaint would be that the world map seems a bit too barren, not sure if this is just because I'm just starting out.

They should release a Star Ocean: Blue Sphere remake to follow up this game if it does well. Then release a Star Ocean: Til the End of time remake. This would probably be the safest route to shore up consumer confidence and increase sales for the series. Afterwards, they can release a new entry in the series.

I'm an old timer RPG player as well and haven't had this much fun in a long while! Also, the quality put into details, user interface etc. is fantastic.

Don’t get me wrong, this Star Ocean game is the one I played on my PSP vigorously, and I so want to play it again on the switch, since it is a re-release of the old game. But in the updated version from the PSP. So, want to play it for so long, for the past 15 years or so.

Square enix will do this treatment to any rpg series except final fantasy. And even pointing that out upsets modern audience NPC s. Like final fantasy 7 remake. Wtf? More like ff17 🤷‍♂️ b b but moder audiences wont like it.....godd F them they dont deserve it, let them play trash like CoD and sports games.
