These ratings have been sitting out too cool down for too long & now they are Luke warm, maybe the kick off could've reheated them up😉. Mjf vs hechicero 2 & 3\4 stars: it felt like mjf phoned it in & was just their to be on the card. Scissor ace vs elite 2 & 1\2 stars: didn't need to be on the card & I don't care for acclaimed vs elite. Shingo vs Danielson 4 & 1\4 stars: it got me back into the show that I thought was going to be a dud before this match. Shirakawa vs storm 4 stars : probably timeless toni's best match as champion both wrestling & storywise Sabre vs Cassidy 4 stars: good but it was kinda slow at times. Learning tree vs team hook 2 & 1\4 stars bored the whole time Tnt ladder match 4 stars: good but probably would've been better if I wasn't burned out on ladder matches & takeshita should've won instead Mone vs vaquer 4 stars: good match probably better than their strong tournament match. Moxley vs naito 1 & 3\4 stars: probably both of their worst match i have seen & way too long. Ospreay vs swerve 4 & 1\2 stars: good but didn't think it was as good as people said it was. Bonus Fletcher vs serpentico 1 & 1\2 stars: nothing special just a squash Tag four way: forgot to rewatch internet went down Watanabe & stalander vs nightingale & nakano 3 & 1\4 stars: fun match & probably should've been on the main card over some matches. Saraya vs may 2 & 3\4 stars: decent Lij vs lucha brothers & mistico 4 stars: definitely should've been on the main card over other matches.
I think Swerve is become a real likeable babyface. Like you could see when he was holding Ospray up that he didn't want to have to do it but he had to keep this title. Just awesome in ring story telling.
This isn't just exclusive to you Friendos, but it is kind of weird how dismissive we are with matches that fall in that 4 to 4.75 star range. These matches, based on their ratings, should be rewatchable. I go back and watch Piper vs. Bret, which isn't what I consider to be a 5-star match, all the time. Same thing with Austin vs Angle from Summerslam 2001. Anything that's above a 4 should be considered special. I think that's kind of getting lost with all the 5-star and up stuff. That Shingo vs. Daniel Bryan match should be something we go back to, because it was great. Maybe not perfect or spectacular, but definitely great - and that should still mean something.
Well said, I was thinking you can have a 4* match and not rewatch it, but you probably should. 5* should be one you can watch repeatedly and is technicality perfect with good storytelling
Vaquer(sp), Swerve, Ospreay, ZSJ and Takeshita were the standouts for me. I guess maybe this is my last AEW PPV I am buying. I've watched every one and I think AEW just isn't for me. I'll try and support them when I can because I like them existing, I just don't like the product that much. So much of this card seemed lifeless. Lots of talent, just not made for an old wrestling fan like me.
I LOVE ZSJ !!!! Always have . People can talk crap about him being too skinny or whatever , but I think it helps his flexibility . And he actually has put on more weight in recent years . The dude is a master genius technician in the ring and no one can deny that .
Yeah and he's bigger than alot of outher guys out there okada is no bigger than zsj I been loving jsj for nearly 10 years can't get wmough of his matches plus his personality is awesome
These star ratings are super fresh, fingers were burned pressing play on the video! Now it’s time to add heat to the star ratings with my own: MJF/Hechicero: 4 (I just love super over MJF) Elite/Scissor Ace: 3.5 (Okada’s the best as a heel) Danielson/Takagi: 4.25 (just good wrasslin) Storm/Mina: 4 (enjoyed the story aspects of it) Cassidy/ZSJ: 4.5 (lovely technical wrestling) Learning Tree/Team Joe: 2.75 TNT ladder match: 4 (a fun car crash; Takeshita’s blue thunder bomb was nuts) Mercedes/Stephanie: 3 (Stephanie bashing Mercedes’ head into the canvas popped me ngl; but something felt off) Naito/Mox: 2 (oof. That’s it) Swerve/Ospreay: 4.75 (both these guys!) Brucie Bonus- LIJ/Lucha lads: 3.5 (give me a Titan/Fenix singles match)
Dave might write up his star ratings after being in glizzy heaven this coming Thursday. Also if only his replacement ribbons come in for his typewriter. LoL
@drexeldragon1723 sure, I didn't listen to it that far. Between the frist 5mins of this video and 20mins of the review video, I just don't understand they seem to be miserable talking about at okay match. Not everything has to be 5 stars so why do they need to sook badly at a match feeling like a house show match? I learnt from Steve and Larson many years ago that the best shows are the ones where every match feels different. This podcast use to be fun, always looking at positive. Now they seem to nitpick every negative they can squeeze out of it. Shame
16:03 I would definitely check out their match at Windy City Riot. It is the antithesis of what we got last night and one of my favorite matches of the year even!
MJF/Hechicero - 3 stars Elite/Acclaim - 3.5 stars Danielson - 4 stars Toni/Mina - 4 stars OC/ZSJ - 3.75 stars (I was bored until the last 7 minutes but I like the OC tapout) Joe/Hook v Learning Tree - 3.0 stars (should've been on Dynamite but I did like the finish) Ladder match - 4.25 stars (some great spots and right winner) Mone/Stephanie - 4.0 stars (Stephanie is a star in the making and I hope AEW or WWE brings her in...I'd prefer WWE because I'd rather see her v Rhea or Bianca or Charlotte or Stratton...etc) Mox match - 2.0 stars (worst match of the night and the crowd just didn't care) Swerve/Ospreay - 5.5 stars (This match alone was worth the $49.99)
The Learning Tree is what happens when Jericho saw Bo Dallas's old stuff and that Damien Sandow twist... I mean seriously the worst of both and that is the point lol
NJPW missed out on big opputunity to have mox take naito's place in G1. You could have had Moxley have a good run possibly beating shota to begin, or having a draw with Shota, but ultimately Shota wins G1 to challenge Mox at WrestleKingdom. You have Shota beat his mentor with the deathrider and become world champion, cementing his place as one of the aces of the company. Also another idea for WrestleKingdom, a faction match between LIJ and House of Darkness with losing faction has to disband and finally put an end to this house of darkness BS. Just a couple ideas to get NJPW on right track because they need a shot of something because NJPW has had no buzz for a while now and they need it.
As someone who got back into wrestling because of mid-late 2010s NJPW, seeing how limited and visibly deteriorated Tanahashi and Naito are now just hurts my soul
I think mercedes does find clever ways to set up and hit her finisher granted, however i think shes 1-12 in actually hitting it the way its supposed to be done Im sorry that finisher just doesnt look good when she does it
A common complaint of AEW is the lack of stories. The main event really had me thinking of the possibilities. You showed a bit of Garcia and MJF. You had Don getting involved. Makes you wonder where the story will go and I like that
Idk about FD but beach break dynamite was cool God damn Jericho making him like the learning tree. end with a singles title on the bad apple please that's all I want to consider it a success.
hearing all this praise for a great match with a great story before throughout & after the match (the main event) just makes it even more confusing to me why the wrestlemania night 2 main event only got 4.5 stars from you guys love you both but yeah i never understood it
Swerve vs Ospreay was good. I'd give it 4ish stars. 4.5 is the absolute max. The glazing is crazy here. What was soooo special about it? Usually for a big AEW match, it's the flashy moves and there weren't even that many here. There was far too much "let's just stand here and throw forearm shots that in a shoot fight would knock someone out but we'll just no-sell them over and over again." Also, they do the same thing with superkicks. For all the shit the Usos take for being superkick merchants, holy shit, Ospreay throws at least a half dozen per match. Again, a really good match with solid action and a solid story, but to act as if it had no flaws is crazy. Cody vs Roman II easily clears this and anything else AEW has ever done in terms of storytelling. It's not even close.
MJF vs Hechicero 3 ⭐ 6 man tag (Elite) 1.5⭐ Danielson vs Takagi 3.5 ⭐ Storm vs Shirakawa Didn't watch Sabre Jr vs OC 2 ⭐ 6 man tag (Jericho) 2 ⭐ TNT ladder match Didn't watch Mone vs Vaquer Didn't watch Naito vs Moxley 1 ⭐ Strickland vs Ospreay 4.5 ⭐
This ppv kind of sucked. They need to figure out the art of compelling storytelling. It’s 2024 there’s constantly crazy matches all the time all over the world.
I feel like "there was no story telling" has become the preprogrammed/ automated response to anything AEW related and it's past getting old. I'm not even a fan of them like that but as somebody who usually only watches their ppv's the stories being told in a few of the matches were pretty easy to figure out.
