You, probably, ought to make a note that several of the things are out of date or the comments about things that have since popped up in things. I'm not meaning to add updates, but to note with sections about when they were originally published compared to when the compilation was released along with a note at the beginning of it being a compilation of already published videos.

Not a bad idea but when one of the video's is now out of date because new information has been added into canon then maybe throw up a voice over or disclaimer, the Enterprise A for example thanks to Star Trek Picard sits in a birth of the Starfleet museum.

Funniest thing is that upside down Enterprise is how we got the Zeon Musai-class. They tweaked it a bit but look at the shape. In universe, it makes sense for certain parts of ships to look the same. In real life, militaries do this all the time to simplify logistics. It makes sourcing spare parts easy.

My thoughts are that they HAD to kill off the Enterprise-D. Since they needed new sets for Voyager, they had to destroy the E-D sets. It would make no sense for the interior of the E-D to change so radically in the next movie. But a new Enterprise-E interior would logically look similar to the concurrent Voyager.

Here's my retcon: People only occupy the outer layer. That's why everyone has a window in their quarters. The full thickness of ship is creamed full of machinery, supplies, and power generators. It Takes a lot of power to fire those weapons and generate warp bubbles and run transporters. So it wasn't enough it only had a thin layer of environmentally useful space:

A nice bit of Naval history is the USS Enterprise CV-6 during WW2 was a Yorktown class fleet carrier and her sister was USS Yorktown CV-5 so having the refit Connie be USS Yorktown and rechristened to Enterprise A is a nice nod to the ships connection in history. And yes, USN did have a number of ships that were lost in the Pacific theater and would rename ships under construction or ships just coming into service to replace the lost ship. USS Yorktown CV-10 was an Essex class fleet carrier originally named USS Bonhomme Richard. It turned out to have a real effect on the IJN especially. They'd sink a ship to have it pop back up again. The thing is ships like Enterprise earned the nickname "The Grey Ghost" from the Japanese because as far as they were concerned they'd sunk her up to 6 times but she kept coming back for more! While they did kick the living crap out of her, they never did actually manage to put her down. Imagine the morale hit when you throw so much at your enemies ships and they keep coming back from the dead and you can't tell, did they just build a new one or is it actually the same bloody ship?

The gray ghost some called her the gray lady But what is painfully cruel it the fact that for all intens and purposes They and I can not understand why They did not preserve her for posterity She would be the most important carrier of the second world War in the pacific and would have been a historical gemstone in her own right And then they just scraped her unceremoniously The only thing left is her name preserved in a park somewhere I don't remember exactly right now and THAT'S JUST A FUCKING SHAME For this great lady who's legacy will live for ever well as long as we don't destroy our selves in the current shitstorm of wars in Europe and the Middle East well we've just have to wait and see on that Boooom ?? 😂😂😂

@@yvindwestersund9720 tell me about it. Royal Navy did the exact same thing with HMS Warspite. If you're not familiar with her exploits, I highly recommend Drachinifel videos on her here on YT. Long story short HMS Warspite was a veteran of both world wars including Battle of Jutland, joint record for the longest range ship to ship main battery shell hit and earned a reputation for just being a ship you do not want to mess with if you're on the other side! Her fate was UK Gov deciding to save a penny and scrap her. There was an attempt from British public and private companies to buy her for preservation but those offers were ignored and she was sold for scrap. Queue HMS Warspite's distain for ppl trying to kill her. While under tow she slipped her lines and ran her self aground. So began one of the most expensive maritime salvage operations there has ever been in British waters that literally took years, sank 2 really expensive tugs and damaged several more 😂 The money she ended up costing the British Gov(and sadly therefore the tax payer) was probably enough to preserve several Warspites for decades!

Our bodies replace every single cell in about seven years, so we all have to deal with the "Ship of Theseus" question. It becomes a point of design and function, rather than material and substance. Also, you missed the joke about the toilet seat at <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="2249">37:29</a> "Do not use while in space dock". I don't know if it is still the case, but back the 90's lots of trains had the message "Do not use in the station" over the toilets because they literally emptied straight down onto the tracks.

According to Gene Roddenberry's preface to the novelization of the motion picture. Despite the 90+ losses Kirk suffered during his 5 year mission. Ship of Theseus rant: All living things are a "Ship of Theseus" when you get down to it. We're all constantly replacing our own matter as we live out our lives, presumably every 7 years. Several times in the history of US aircraft carriers the planned name of the ship was changed or pushed back to the next ship of the class to allow a prestigious name to take the next ship available. OK,I have come to this late, but my explanation for the increased damage from TWOK to TSFP was 'latent damage' as you note. The Enterprise was hit hard on critical and fragile systems. Systems that were barely holding on... stopped holding on after the Mutara incident. Things started blowing up, interior emergencies akin to the damage inflicted on Voyager from "Year of Hell." The Enterprise was pretty old and only intended as a trained ship by that point anyway and the stresses placed on the aged vessel called all manner of systems to fail with, with the vacuum of space 'sucking' at the the pressure of the ship could lead to a lot of damage and the crew literally fire fight-ing (careful of YT's auto-censoring here!) all the way home. This explains the desire to see the Enterprise scrapped - it NEEDS to be be - and why Scotty could not hold the ship together at Genesis in the end. That theory would make the 'limping back' into the starbase all the more poignant too.

RE: Enterprise D number 9 (<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="2772">46:12</a>) When discussing the emptiness of the Enterprise D, Adam mentions that the ship had a crew of "just over a thousand people" which is also mentioned on the show and many other numerous places. I feel like it was referenced in an early episode ... and, if I remember correctly, in a technical manual somewhere... that crew member's families were also aboard the ship to ease the pain of being separated from your family over the course of he 5-year missions. This could possible double... triple... or even greater expand the number of total people (Starfleet personnel plus their families ((spouses and children)) plus civilians to support people forthose families ((teachers, doctors, etc.)) which would in effect fill out the rest of at least the saucer section. Is not this the whole reason they say that the saucer section separates from the main drive section... so those families and civilian personnel can hopefully escape danger while the Starfleet crew fight off whatever the apparent danger is in the main drive section. I love these videos, so this is not a correction or criticism as much as I would like someone to speak to this topic to further the discussion and clarify this as I have heard this "mostly empty" theory elsewhere. Thanks again. Keep these videos coming.

I'm a Star Trek apologist so I make up bs to explain those occasional incompletely thought out concepts in Star Trek. For the turbo lift issues on the 1701 bridge being at the back and center...The interior of the bridge must spin. As the turbo lift reaches the bridge, the whole bridge spins over slightly so that the door lines up with the lift. Once the lift becomes unoccupied and the doors close, the bridge spins back to its forward facing position. This made up explanation makes me feel better. Because I do indeed want the bridge to be facing forward but I have to explain the lift being center aft. So do you like it? XD

I want to headcanon that the different Enterprise D models were actually various refits. I don't think it's creatively impossible to imagine this, especially since the main bridge was redesigned twice over the series, including in Star Trek: Generations, and after all, this is the flagship of the Federation, so it would make sense to me anyway... for them to keep it up to code with the various improvements in technology during its 7+ years of service, which was happening in the story with other things such as the aforementioned bridge refits.

I knew the color of the Enterprise-D aztec panels as Duck Egg Blue because... the model kits (circa the early 90s) specified that color. I thought it was odd at the time and left it off. Transparent red for the Bussard collectors, transparent blue for the warp nacelle panels (sides). If memory serves, what I did for the deflector was use a very vivid orange and a bright white for the deflector dish. I painted the back of it that bright orange and did the bright white ring on the front to give it the appearance of being lit without lightning (since the models in those days didn't have it). Also, Memory Beta is, as you mentioned, definitely *not* canon. In fact, the Pocket-verse (what it was originally called) for books was recently destroyed (renamed the First Splinter, a timeline created, interestingly enough, by the Borg following the Enterprise-E on the way back to the future from 2063). So, none of that timeline exists any more. Decades worth of books and comics had their entire existence vanish in a Descartes like "I think not". Regarding Enterprise-F, neither IDW nor STO are definitive for their detail. STO does not follow the Prime Universe timeline. It has its own stories which allow players to play ships of any era in the 2410 timeframe. (9 years later than Picard is set) Star Trek tends to only allow shows and movies to be canon. Nothing written is presently considered canon except novelizations of movies. So, it's not considered "extended canon" - and never has been by Paramount or the show runners. That's entirely fan fiction.

<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="3490">58:10</a> Hmm, so we only saw the main shuttle bay once in Cause & Effect? Thing is we also saw it in Best of Both Worlds part 2 when Data & Worf were in a shuttle to rescue Picard. In that scene you clearly see the edge of the main shuttle bay and then after departure the secondary hull appears in the distance so it was definitely from the main bay. Just had to recheck that part of the episode before writing this it refresh my memory

The gallery ties into old ships of the line where access to critical areas of the hull and should get there correct name: The Carpenters Walk.

The extra damage on the Enterprise in Star Trek 3 technically isn't an error. In Star Trek 2 Spock and Kirk look over the damage report screen and you can see that the ship was hit in the areas that showed damage in the third movie so in actuality it was the model in the second movie that was in error.

The Enterprise D was not a Ghost ship, just a lot of deck space had to be dedicated to house the Whale Navigator's Saltwater tanks (not a joke!)

Great Video, Youngsters. And I have my own 'Bet you didn't know...' bit to add- I bet you didn't know that Sci-Fi writers of all stripes, from professional authors, to Scriptwriters to RU-vid creators, don't know when to properly use the term- 'Intergalactic' (And just as much- 'Universe'). While there were specific episodes of the shows that dealt with traveling to other Galaxies, as a general rule, the Federation's Warp Technology was way, way, WAAAY too slow to be effective at traveling from one galaxy to another. (The Enterprise-D could travel about 2,744x the Speed of Light. The Andromeda Galaxy, our CLOSEST Neighbor is about 2,500,000 Light-Years away. So at Max Warp, it would take about 911 years to reach it. Better pack a few extra trail bars.) Another example of a gross misapplication of scale terms would be when Dr. McCoy says that the Genesis Project would result in 'Universal Armageddon.' The actual fact is that we are told the Universe is SO big that the entire Milky Way galaxy (One of Billions) could blip out of existence (and all its billions of stars & planets) and the Universe wouldn't even NOTICE. As Douglas Adams so Sagely put it- “Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.” If you consider yourself an informed Sci-Fi Nerd, use your terms properly.

<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="451">7:31</a> “Instrumentation.” <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="957">15:57</a> I can’t imagine deciding whether to watch a show based on the first look of a starship that is a forerunner of the Enterprise of ToS? Oh. The argument of NX-01 inspiring the Akira class, it likely inspired ALL future designs with revisions and improvements, becomes more valid. <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="1311">21:51</a> I’d forgotten about Robert April. <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="2464">41:04</a> Shatner was a visionary. Before Abrams, he created the Sybok Universe. The big change? The Enterprise exterior is the same size, but the crew is a smaller scale which meant more decks in the interior. Conveniently shunting the fifth movie into a parallel universe. The Mirror verse… where it was immediately destroyed… by a displaced Enterprise of the same exterior sized but with five proportionally sized individuals… and one hamster running the warp engines. <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="3124">52:04</a> That’s because so much of the budget went into cleaning up cat shit every season. And, the accent had me believing you said Spock had mutinied and crapped everywhere. <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="94">1:34</a>:44 The “packed in” crew of the original Enterprise might be explained by the idea that original designs for it were based on the vague description “big enough for 150-250 crew members.” Possibly the original plans by Starfleet meant Constitution class ships were big enough to be comfortable for the 250, but refits over a few years may have required more crew, but not enough to require a larger hull, but internal changes to accommodate a larger crew, but with less space. Considering the calculations of the amount of space allowed to “D” crew and family, perhaps more or slightly less than doubling the original number Roddenberry had in mind wouldn’t have taxed interior room allotted for a larger number.

For the decks thing, I kind of assumed that there are 2 different things referred to a decks there, one of which is the entire deck and the other being stop points for the turbolifts/areas designed for faster location there for communications purposes.

yes, i often wonder, where and the bogs are, you would expect just to see a door in a corridor saying "poo deck" or "the head" as that is a navy term.

I prefer Poberts Enterprise to the actual galaxy design. The secondary hull always looked like a great big flying vagina to me (I know I have problems). The proportions of the secondary hull are way off imho. Firstly the attributed size is pointless even if it has room for emergency transport and transporters, Disaster relief equipment and supplies, quarantine bays, the "mall" the arboretum (which should have used an outside location as it set) and more uses of space its still too big. One of the key issues I have is with mater replication and holo-decks you dont need the space. The idea is flying around with prefab colony buildings and engineering equipment and areas left for evacuation efforts goes some of the way to explaining the need for size and I'd have liked for that to be addressed (for example in the Narendra array episode if they said they had spare array panels in inventory and spare computer nodes etc that would have made sense of the scale.

it makes sense that bridges change in every film. Why? It’s the future. Tech progresses as a geometric rate. I would think with traveling around the universe they are exposed to new technologies and new discoveries every few months. If that’s the case, equipment would need to be updated constantly on the ship to detect, manipulate and use the new tech…right?

I thnk the Enterprise-A with it being the Yorktown was only just finished before it was re-christened as the Enterprise. Otherwise why would Scotty have to rebuild it? Also the same with the enterprise-E...pretty sure it was the first ship sovereign class just being finished that wss re-christened to the E....Maybe. That would make more sense as it's not a shake down cruise for the crew but the ship.....
