Star Trek Adventures takes you where no one has gone before - its second edition!
This week the Quickstart for the #STA2e has dropped - it can be downloaded for free from ‪@Modiphius‬ www.startrektt...
I take a look at what is new in #modiphius #startrekadventures based on my first reading and my experience in running and playing STA. Some changes I like, some I am not so sure about, but it is exciting to see the system get an overhaul - if only to "reorganise and clarify", as Modiphius stated.
I probably misunderstood or misrepresented some things. Let me know in the comments - always happy to learn.
If you are into 2d20, also check out our Conan 2d20 campaign here on this channel.

Fair enough. We currently play 1e but the 2e book has now been despatched. Once I have the book in my hands, I will have a better grasp of the differences.

Great to see Star Trek coming to rpg, but I am not a fan of doom, threat and momentum. I will use my homebrew.

Star Trek Adventures has been out for a while, both on 2d20 and before in other incarnations. If you wanted to do without threat and momentum, I think it'd be best to go with a different rule system altogether. The books are still good source material of course .

@@raldanash_rpg I have a homebrew where the PCs and the NPCs each have a pool of luck dice (1d6). There is a limit of 7 in each luck pool. There are many different ways to gain luck dice that do not take up time. They are instant, such as at the end of a round of combat, each side rolls a d12 to obtain more luck dice. The luck dice are used to increase an attack, increase AC, increase damage, decrease damage, increase saves and skill checks and even death saves. Luck dice are replenished quite readily and used quite freely. It has turned out to give more suspense and surprises to combat. I love my homebrew of luck dice. It is much better.

@@polvotierno While this system seems more punchy it takes the character development and Roleplay out of core gameplay. If thats your thing just get to the next fight/conflict etc this would work but if you are fleching out characters and have a lot more non conflict style challenges going on this would seem to fall waaaay short The threat, momentum, determination system on the other hand encourages players to roleplay what their character would do and how - even earning bonuses when for a time it puts them at a disadvantage. I love the syatem because it promotes the good, the bad and the ugly out of the characters and mimics the universe played in much better there by

I am pretty sure that things like determination, values etc will still feature, unless I missed a recent blog to the contrary. Only having dabbled in 2e so far, my perception is that by making the crunchy bit lighter, it provides more space for roleplaying and character development. We shouldn't have to wait too long to find out, luckily. But then polvotiemos luck dice seem to be more combat focused.
