Okay. I must be BRUTALLY honest here! The premise was okay, the direction was totally absent, as was the feeling from the actors. The script needs major work, but the SFX were pretty good! I know that this is a fan made project & that a flawlessly presented project was never going to happen. But I would LOVE to see what you would be capable of with more funds & resources!!! I wouldn't mind writing a script myself!
Thanks for the comments. Please be aware that this was produced in 1999/2000, so it is 16 years old! It was thoroughly filmed on greenscreen - all sets are completely virtual.
+Tobias Richter Good one Mr Richter. I remember you from the days of the Amiga as Trekkin Toby. Tell me, was this story inspired by the TOS episode "The Ultimate Computer"? If it was or was not, still a good story and effects given the time it was made. Good acting too, thanks for sharing.
Acting was a bit cold, but the script was fine. Though you would think Starfleet officers would know better than to try to disable a computer by shooting at its holographic avatar!
Why build a huge ship when a small probe would do just fine? Real waste of resources. Besides, having a fleet of probes isn't what Starfleet's about...
Okay, so if you don't speak German you miss some on screen stuff but I really enjoyed it. Great special effects! Spacecraft were excellent and true to Star Trek. So the script wasn't too hot, but I'd like to see these fans again.
My thoughts... Actors started out abit cold (maybe a German thing) but ended in a very natural acting, maybe they got better as it progressed. CGI top notch can't fault a thing, just the starting part wasn't "Startrek" looking CGI as it reminds me of Babylon 5 more. The CGI for the alien himself was decent, can't demand too much from a fan film. Bridge, I'm totally loving the bridge. Futuristic and minimalist bridge (typical Europeans, huh?) that can go full manual with stations and chairs or with nothing in full automatic mode. I think this is the best part of the whole show. It makes sense for very deep space journey between Galaxies if the human passengers go into "hypersleep" or hibernation the ship can go full auto then manual when the human's wake up. Unless got new warp technology to go between the galaxy voids fast I think hibernation is required. As although supplies are considered unlimited if there is energy but Dilithium is finite and no guarantee of reloads when going so far away from home base.
This is perhaps one of the greatest Trek fanfilms I've ever seen; although I don't speak much German, the acting was at least more passable than I'm used to in fan's work.
Very well done. I really liked what you have done here and it has an interesting premise. Truly creative idea that presents the question of which is better. People or machines? Congratulations!!!! I really like this film!!!!!
423 million reviews or not, it would have been impossible for Roxanne to predict 100% what the humans piloting the (older) Enterprise would do as she was moving past them. It was not believable that the programming would be so reckless. Additionally, basic strategy of using shields when around an unknown ship would also be included in an AI. There were a few other minor things that bugged me about this, like the AI not having the turbolift at the transporter when they beamed over, and not slowly adjusting gravity. But all this said, it was a great short, one of the best I've seen!
This was not to bad , I liked it. The only thing I can say is, this reminds me of course, of the original Star Trek series episode with the new computer , M-5.
Exactly. Did Starfleet learn NOTHING from the M-5 incident?! Do the descendants of the family of the Excalibur's dead have to demand BLOOD!? I'm furious that Starfleet would make a robotic ship without an "off" switch.. AGAIN!
Highest quality I have ever seen in fan movies! I am impressed. Beautiful actors / actresses, nice SFX and sound, and unique story. I want to see more from you! Thanks very much!
Story so-so, too familiar. Great production values, design & SFX good, etc. Static camera and poor actor direction deadens the action. Actors' lines delivered in monotone throughout. With talented direction, this could have been so much better. But it is, nevertheless, an amazing achievement to make fan films of this quality. Concentrate on more original storylines and improved dialogue, film technique (pacing, camera movement, shot variety) and getting more from the actors - they're probably capable of it - and future productions could be far better. When fan films look as good as this, they will be compared with professional productions. I enjoyed watching this movie.
The 1701-HC was an "NX" or experimental ship. I can see Starfleet granting a temporary NX number and temporary name to an experimental prototype, especially if they planned to decommission the 1701-E immediately after the test proved a success. Probably as a final "fuck you" to the memory of Captain Dunsel... I mean Kirk.. making the Enterprise the first robot ship 120-or-so years after the M-5 Incident.
Good story and acting. Titling was cool, and CG was very good. Not sure about the "High Class" - might be a mistranslation, or at least, it doesn't make much sense in English.
The whole vid is nicely done, but for the life of me I simply can't imagine that the federation would make a completely automated starship. ...then allow so obvious a scenario to go unanticipated.
K, I applaud the effort, but I am not going to read all that. I'd get a dub over by some voice actors. They're not hard to find, just hard to keep responding to your emails.
Anarchist86ed That's rather arrogant of you. The German sounds beautiful, and if you can't handle this, I imagine you can't handle most international films with subtitles and THAT I seriously pity you for.
Terry Watson Personally I hate dubbing for anything but animated children's movies. In this case I just imagine that the crew on this ship been recruited from German speaking regions on earth. They can use the translator or speak English if they want to but on this ship German is standard language.
