I know this is old at this point but I see faction miners as super uncommon crystal efficient when compared to a horizon. If you really wanted to you could get all 3 of the faction miners to the same as a max Horizon for the same uncommon crystal cost of 1 maxed horizon. Thus giving you 3 mining ships for the uncommon price of 1. I also think the g4 faction miners are super uncommon efficient too because taking it to tier 2 gets you 80 warp range for 0 uncommon materials.
Thanks for watching! A maxed horizon would cost around 3200 crystal (base cost). dividing that by 3, you would spend around 1050 crystal per faction miner, which gets them to T4 each. At T4, your warp range is a little less than a maxed horizon (36 vs 40) and your repair time would be double. Also, you get the Horizon at Ops 26, so by the time you can build the faction miner at Ops 31 that Horizon should already be a high tier (if not already maxed). That is how I would compare them, but thats just my analysis and of course you are free to invest your mats however you like.
I recommend that one focus on maxing two Ho’s and the mining officers. With the Epics you upgrade them for events and will only use them for raids. At t5 the get you two million a scoop. Base
for the cost of maxing one faction miner can get 2 to 3 horizons maxed and you will have an amalgam by then not fast at mining but protected is way higher even higher than a faction miners protected and cargo size only con slow mining but thats not really a major concern as long as using best mining crew and much higher warp range more pros than cons and on two battle pass event stores can get another amalgam
personally i like the centurion and its firing pattern i usually go fed and rom cause at ops34 i want an enterprise on my F2P i plan to do it right this time ops26 get legion ops28 get centurion and ops34 the enterprise on my main my centurion is 2mil power that will help well into the faction lock its around faction ships of 37+ and about 25k mining each day and having PMC and PMT improves your PVE area

I just blew up my T7 Bortas on those traders you mentioned in The Ty Gokor system. They appear to not as easy as they were suppose to be. Oh well said the water.
