It's ironic that the actual trailer the studio put out spoiled every single major event of Every Act in the film ( in chronological order, at that); you already knew literally every beat of the movie by watching the trailer. The official trailer was basically a short film. As for this fan-made trailer yes it has a modern feel to it, it doesn't spoil everything, and it does hint at what to expect in the film; but not every film is appropriate to have this feel, especially when it's a comedy ( even if it is a Sci-Fi comedy). But like I said, it doesn't spoil everything like the official version, I think it's even better than the official trailers, and, genre/tone aside, it's a damn good trailer nonetheless.

This is the music from the Skyscraper trailer, I believe. I remember seeing IV as one of my first Trek films. It has probably aged the best for me over the years now that I'm an adult and can appreciate all of the nuances in it.

As good as the other films are, this has always been my favorite of the OST films. It captures both the lightness and the humanistic concerns of the original series. Both of those have gone by the wayside in the movies. Other than the occasional bit of snark, you don't get much humor, and there's hardly ever any contemplation of the social issues that were so central to Roddenberry's vision. But in this one, both were there, so I think that of all the films, it's the most faithful to the spirit of OST.

You're absolutely right. I debated if I wanted to have more comedy in the trailer and honestly I couldn't pull it off with the right music track. And then I thought, what if it was treated more serious in the trailer? How would that affect seeing it without knowing it had more comedy in it than it was marketed? Would a new viewer like it more?

The balance works okay only because this trailer is so short. Had it been longer, it would have implied the movie is far more serious than it is. But kudos for not implying that it's an action film, or for nor INCLUDING ANY KLINGONS. (Which you did with Wrath of Khan, and what the hell was up with that??)

Oh, sorry. I thought you made the trailer for Wrath of Khan I saw. It has a flavor similar to yours, and I neglected to check the maker's name. My bad!
