Meet the "Star Trek" Superfan James Cawley who has meticulously recreated the sets for the Enterprise from the original 1960s television series. Full story: yhoo.it/2ne803t
And so what ! It’s just a shitty factory that makes a product that brainwashes people. I’d like to shut it down. It makes people into the krank you’ve just been watching. He needs psychiatric help.
+MOLE What Ms Nichols said was truly genuine and real! And that is what separates the original series from all the banal sequels. I read many decades ago when I was at University of Florida studying for electronics and aerospace engineering (BSEE) that the actors would get so wrapped up in their roles and scenes that they actually thought that they were on a starship in interstellar space. One classic instance was where James Doohan (Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott) was instructed by a director in one scene to move a lever a certain way on the transporter unit and Doohan refused. When the director on the set told Doohan that the lever was nothing more than a studio prop and wasn't real, Doohan still refused to do it the director's way saying it was incorrect and the scene wasn't filmed until Doohan was allowed to move the transporter lever the proper way! In a way, Doohan believed that the whole thing was real. A lot of the original Star Trek series is very believable and would most probably resemble "real life" on a military space vessel. I NEVER got that feeling with TNG and all of its melodramatic theatrics.
I was really surprised that my dad liked Star Trek. One of the few shows we actually watched together. I didn't get a tear, but the lump in my throat was unmistakable.
As a fan of the original series, and someone who organized one of the petitions circulated to keep the original series on the air, this is amazing. Fantastic job and I hope it leads to many more fan films. 🖖
James Cawley is my hero. He obviously is a Star Trek analyst, from his sets to the original music to his acting. I recommend his videos to all Star Trek fans, very well done indeed.
DGOODWIN19 I concur. I liked James too he was good but when Vic took the captain's chair and tried his hand at commanding the Enterprise, the dude just took off like a Saturn V rocket. Taking nothing away from Cawley and the guy after him, Vic Mignogna is, by far, the closest you would get to having Bill Shatner in the center chair. IMO.
The Hotel Enterprise, where each room looks like crew quarters. The front desk where you check in looks like the transporter room. Could be a great moneymaking opportunity.
Been there a couple times. 1st time there James was outside up a ladder painting. We pulled in the parking lot and I said to my wife, "why is Elvis up a ladder in Ticonderoga NY painting a building?" James came down the ladder and while they were closed he was generous to chat with us for more than a few minutes sharing his dream well enough to get us back for a tour in a few weeks. We were lucky to have him as a tour guide. Amazing experience. Go visit.
My first and only question was, “Why does he have Elvis style hair?” Not why he built the set...because, DUH! Of course every Star Trek fan would, if they could! Dude...you win the Trekkie award for the decade! (Co-winning with the guy who rescued and rebuilt the original Galileo shuttlecraft! )
This is so cool. The anecdote about Nichelle Nichols expressing warm fuzzies about the familiarity of it, is the true seal of perfection to me. Truly well done, sir.
Wow! Star Trek:: TOS remains my favourite ever programme to this day. How much I’d love to visit that set. Thank you for posting this, and best wishes from Northern Ireland ☘️
I too was that kid in the ‘70’s watching it over and over. I had the Mego bridge playset and would duplicate the action on screen with my figures. When I got my first phaser and communicator set, I was in heaven. This would be a dream come true to just step onto that set and relive it for a short while. Worth every dime of admission. 🖖 🖖
The Flaming Pike: Nah. I did have the walkie-talkie pair for a while. The phaser and communicator set was my “holy grail” acquisition as a kid. Once I had those, I was on a “landing party mission” everyday.
Dude. I drove from Ontario 8 hours with my brother in law to see this. I was shocked. I arrived to see the owner working outside with a circular saw working to make the experience better. I loved this tour.
I was one of the few who got to see the very first "episode" as it were, shortly after it showed up online so many years ago and I've seen every single one since then including the final ones with Brian Gross at the command.
Have you realized or are you realizing now when you walk in the Walmart doors the CVS doors those are the Star Trek doors but without the amazing sound effect
There are a lot of things in the original series that people take for granted today but were pure science fiction in the 1960s. It's amazing how many accurate predictions the show creators made.
Dang man, gotta say He deserves a lot more attention for so much hard work. I Love the Original version of Star Trek. The Cast and other Stars alike will be remembered by so many of us. Even the Original Movies with the Original version Star ship and cast just made it great to watch. Yeah the newer ship was cool but loved seeing the Original version Ship with the engines on and all put together as a whole. The cast well loved by many. The whole thing just Rocks it.!!
Jim Cawley's New Voyages were the first professional style fan film of Star Trek I ever saw on the internet. There's been many others, but I consider Jim to be the pioneer of the genre. JJ Abrams even gave Jim a cameo in the first Star Trek reboot!
Back when Startrek had more colors than Grey, Blue, White and Black. I miss the original, 80-ies movie and TNG estetics. From Enterprise-onwards we lost colors... and then we lost 'real' Startrek entirely. Thanks for the nostalgia trip !
Amazing recreation! My first cousin Carl Biddiscombe was the Set Designer during the first year of the original series in 1966. You've really done well in bringing his initial vision to life once again.
Pretty darn fabulous as past times go. When he's old I hope his sets will eventually find a museum that can house and exhibit them permanently as icons of television rather then let them go into disrepair.
i agree.STD is a TERRIFIC DISAPPOINTMENT.Watched Orville episode 12 and I THOUGHT IT WAS EXCELLENT.great clear photography.great ship shots.great special effects and good moments. This is what STD should have been instead of being a gay ass jerk fest with crap cgi.
Gotta tip your hat to anyone who has made their dream come true. Especially one of simply enjoying his life and bringing enjoyment to others. Bravo. You are a true entertainer.
there is a guy in the UK who did something like this but because he lived in a counsel home the DHS made him remove it, he spent something like 30k sterling but you might have him out matched.
This is a great place to visit. Mr Cawley was there when my family came to the Star Trek Set. He was very gracious and took a photo with us after the tour.
That's Pretty Cool, Man! I'm Surprised There Aren't More Hollywood Sets On Display. Who Wouldn't Want To Hang Out At 'Cheers', For Instance. Thank You.
That is outrageously brilliant! I watched TOS from as young as I remember back in the 70s and have always loved the show. Would love to see that set in person! Great work.
Elvis has left the bridge ! James Cawley's Star Trek New Voyages had some really great stories. Loved the "Star Trek New Voyages Answer TO JJ Trek" video.
This and Star Trek Continues are the two highest quality fan-made series on the internet, but if I had to put one above the other I'd say that Continues just eeks out ahead of this one. That being said, Vic Mignogna (who plays Captain Kirk on Star Trek Continues) appreciates this show as much as they appreciate his. Star Trek Continues produced 11 episodes in total, with the last being delivered just a few weeks ago. Due to CBS/Paramount rules, there will be no more. :( - Episode 1: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3G-ziTBAkbQ.html - Episode 2: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4mOpmIFTxkE.html - Episode 3: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dJf2ovQtI6w.html - Episode 4: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6PvgJI6cvh8.html - Episode 5: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KChYhXhj7vY.html - Episode 6: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uSFHGyLYQ-c.html - Episode 7: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yMasSzFXaKQ.html - Episode 8: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GQeO5uuUbH4.html - Episode 9: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3VEZH8bqytA.html (John DeLancie!) - Episode 10: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eCBuaTnDsQs.html (Part 1 of final episode) - Episode 11: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-29L8P1XwnaA.html (Part 2 of final episode) The ending of episode 11 ties nicely into Star Trek The Motion Picture, explaining how and why Kirk had a desk job, why Spock was on Vulcan trying to "find himself" and why Bones had quit altogether. Nicely done! ru-vid.comvideos
What do CBS/Paramount rules state about continuing on with more episodes? I thought their prohibition was no profiting which didn't seem to be happening here.
@@liveuntetheredmusepodcast4832 Yeah, one of the best fan-made video series of any kind (in my opinion) on the internet. Very high production values. It's just too bad they had to stop making them. :(
@@stantheman9072 Be that as it may, they own the rights to the property and can decide what to do with it, whether we like it or not. The guys that made "Axanar" are really the ones that caused the problem in the first place because they actually made money off of their kickstarter, which is NOT cool. Star Trek Continues never made any money (in fact almost certainly it COST them money out of their own pockets), so it sucks for them, but making money off of someone else's work is not cool.
I love this dude and I am a HUGE Star Trek fan. I 3D resin printed a 10ft long 6ft wide Enterprise D that weighs over 200lbs with working lights and everything and it's parked in my garage until I can figure out what to do with it, lol.
@@ingwiafraujaz3126 yes indeed, TNG and Voyager are my fav ST series. Only now I'm seeing DS9 for the first time. Somehow I never gave that serie a try after rejecting it after only seeing 3 episodes in the past. Imo the 1st and 2nd season are OK, not very good, but now I'm really liking it. I'm somewhere halfway the 3rd season now.
Thank you to you and your staff and the volunteers that have produce the excellent episodes, as a long time star trek fan i have enjoy each one i just wish that your Journey and trek could continue.
We used refrigerator boxes one summer and built the bridge in my Aunt and Uncles Basement. It wasnt anything fantastic but we played for hours down there. My cousins saved it for a few years and we would get together every summer and I would actually write episodes. Some I turned in for credit at school.
They know each other. Vic actually played a Klingon in a New Voyages episode with the Duras family. I'd imagine they're friends, but Vic went on to do his own show, so who knows.
I find it strange that the ultra-rich people don't have this kind of vision...except maybe Bezos who is a scifi fan too, supporting scifi series. If I had that kind of money I would have built scifi theme parks with 1:1 ships that one could check out inside and also creating scifi hotels onboard and more...
Fun fact: Back in 1992 there was a plan to build a 1:1 scale replica of the TMP era Enterprise in downtown Las Vegas. The interior was going to be fully decked out with various set replicas as well as hotel acommodations, the works. The head of Paramount at the time nixed it fearing it would be a failure.
James it was a pleasure to hangout with you and hear your dream. To see it start being built and Vic jumping in and absolutely glowing with enthusiasm. So many people pouring out their souls and now series of episodes and a whole real Star Trek here on Earth. It seems like yesterday that I was having dinner with Elvis, Edward, Buck Rogers, Michelle , I'm going to start building the Engines and Dilithium Matrix as well as the Transporters. I will also start working on the Metallurgy for the Super Structure. Feel free to start laying out plans for the next phase, organizing teams and alot sections and projects anytime. I believe that we may want to consider atleast pursuing technology towards the holodeck as a pet project.. In anycase... YOU DID IT ! YOU ALL DID IT ! Thank You ELVIS ! err .. YOU DID IT ! YOU ALL DID IT JAMES ! AMAZING ! Let's shoot for a Launch Date of 2040 ! Take Care and keep Those Blue Suede Shoes and Phasers Clean !
Yes James collie is obsessed with Star Trek. But he doesn't understand Star Trek. He thinks it's a political springboard for the left. It is not it's a show me just to think about the world we live in. He also mistakenly says that is anti-religious. In the entire history of Star Trek there is only three anti-religious episodes and none of them where's sanctioned by Gene Roddenberry when Gene Roddenberry was healthy. In fact Gene Roddenberry root several Pro religious episodes... This includes Bread & circuses and Dagger of the Mind. To watch true Star Trek buy fans for fans watch Star Trek Continues
I agree with you BondFreek. At first I really was enjoying Star Trek: New Voyages. They lost me when they felt the need to appease the gay community by having the BF of Kirk's nephew lay on his back and twerk his privates into Peter's butt. IDIC is a great thing but it does not supercede good taste. Vic Mignona has truly captured the heart and soul of the original Star Trek series. I loved the stories and the production of Star Trek: Continues. Damn you Preclude to Axanar for ruining the great fan films we have lost because of you.
Just think. James is an elvis Presley impersonator by night. And a star ship captain in the day tyme hours. Elvis has really gone where no man has gone b 4.
Fk - the whole show is based on atheist science - going into space, extraterrestrial life, evolutionism - learn proper grammar, STFU and stop smoking meth in church ~
"Star Trek" WAS a "liberal" / "left" / "progressive" show in that it was "ideal" (or sought to be so), (super-) "normal" and "the way things SHOULD be", rather than ridiculous, asinine, ignorant "conservative" / "right" CRAP that we are weighed down with WAY TOO MUCH these days, and it is now so much worse than it has EVER been. We have "NEVER" been farther from "Star Trek" than we are now as an "advanced" society, culture, and civilization. (except for the select, 'rare' few who are the standard bearers and people who keep things on an even keel, more or less, and moving forward into a BRIGHT future, which is about 10% to 20% of the population) ALL of the "bad guys" in "Star Trek" could EASILY be Once-GOP RepCons (or 'Libertarians' aka Psychotic Republicans), because that is the Truth and Reality of who and what these people are and choose to be. (that is, people who are (overly) egocentric, anthropocentric, arrogant, selfish, self-absorbed, self-interested, greedy, 'hateful', indecent, uncaring, lacking in compassion and empathy, with tendencies toward violence in all of its forms, and sociopaths of various levels and degrees and manners, etc....) "Star Trek" is ALSO COMPLETELY ANTI-religious in nature. Although it is semi-spiritual in nature, especially if you consider "good things" spiritual in nature, such as goodness, kindness, caring, compassion, empathy, non-violence and pacifism, and the like. "Religion" ALWAYS causes problems, and is contraindicated. (because it is COMPLETELY IRRATIONAL (and fictional and fantasy-based) in nature, which is anathema to the rational, intelligent, learned, knowledgeable, thinking, objective, open-minded, reality-based person)
Made the trek to Ticonderoga with my wife on June 29/2018, we had so much fun being on the Enterprise it was amazing. They've done a great job recreating the ship and the tour was informative. We had a nice lunch across the street in this little diner... wearing my star trek t-shirt, I'm sure the town is going to love the Trekies and Trekers as we visit Ticonderoga with arms wide open. Thanks James !!!
I’ve been a big Star Trek fan since ‘66, and this just makes me feel so good. I’m literally smiling inside. Thankyou. You’ve done this ailing heart very well. Even if I can’t see it for myself in person, I know it exists.
My friends and I built a section of the bridge based on the Franz Joseph Tech manual in 1976.. it was pretty good. You sir have taken it to the 'next' level... thanks!
I had no idea this museum existed and was eating at a diner across the street from it in Ticonderoga and fucking lost my mind when I spotted it! I literally ran across the street. The set is amazing and if anybody makes it to the Adirondacks I highly recommend it.
The updated computer designs, while keeping true to the TOS esthetic is what Discovery and SNW should/could have done. This is a really good blend of old and new.
Sir: You have done a fantastic job! I was privileged to watch the series when it first came on TV and have been a fan ever since. I applaud your labor and tenacity to do what you have done. Cheers, Steve
👍👌👏 Simply fantastic! Extremely well done. That's what I definitely call a fan! Thanks a lot for making recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health.
