Space: the final frontier. These are the voyagers of the starship Voyager. It's been lost in the Delta quadrant, but that hasn't stopped it from exploring strange new worlds, seeked out new life and new civilizations, and have boldly gone where no one has gone before. This is hands-down my favorite rendition of Goldsmith's STAR TREK theme. FINAL FRONTIER may be a clumsy and uneven movie, but its score is still the very best of the entire series. Goldsmith was on fire for this one.
Final Frontier deserves no credit for this, it's a theme stolen from TNG, and TNG stole it from TMP, the most underrated film. Also, epic TMP Klingon theme.
I watched Star trek when it first hit the air waves in the 60's seen every movie many times Rest in Peace Leonard, live long and prosper... you did that well!
Alas, I grew up only seeing Star Trek as “The other space franchise” (I was raised on Star Wars). Only now am I making my way through Trek, first with TNG, and now TOS. Man, I really had no idea what I was missing.
@@peterrealar2.067 You are correct that Trek came before. However there seems to fairly little thematic overlap, both in universes as well as their characters, between Trek and Wars as compared to their shared forerunner Dune, another famous space-fiction world to which I had only recently been introduced via the books. I only meant to say that my experience with popular space-related fiction had quite limited until these past few years. Furthermore, my new experience of the most recent two has given me a greater insight into, and thereby a greater appreciation of all three.
@@FreeOrderBallPerseverance21 I don't understand why this statement should even have any relevancy to begin with, though. You don't have to hate one to like the other. What, is it popular for Star Trek fans to hate Star Wars, vice versa, both, or neither?
@@malafakka8530 No, they were just too lazy to figure out a new theme. Just like how there is no way to redo the Star Wars theme without it being the exact theme.
@@succulentcranberry Maybe you are right, but I'd like to see some proof for it, like some behind the scenes information. Otherwise I can't agree with you. What you say about Star Wars has more to do with tradition, identity, nostalgia, or whatever you like to call it, and less with it being impossible to do. Of course, it would be extremely hard to do because of how iconic the original music has become and you don't create such music whenever you want, but to say it is impossible is ultimately an opinion and not a fact, no matter how likely or unlikely it is.
@@succulentcranberry What are you talking about? The movies were very successfull at the time, only the first one got mixed reviews when it came out. TNG even came out the year after The Voyage Home, which was the most profitable of the Star Trek films. Of course we all know about the reception The Final Frontier got, but that was after TNG had started. I think they just thought this theme was suited for the new show (which it was). Although I think you CAN call out The Final Frontier for lazily recycling this theme, but of course that movie had very lame production values because they rushed into production.
@@rggb8156 Reminds me of that UberEats commercial between Mark Hamill and Patrick Stewart. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KrnRudeREzI.html
with the middle and end of this song I can see it now: You're alone as a Federation freighter captain, your ship is badly damaged and surrounded by 3 Klingon BoPs closing in for the kill....when all of a sudden a friendly warps in and you see the registry "NCC-1701"
The Enterprise then releases a birage of photon torpedoes and phasers in a wide ark, destroying one BoP,damaging another, and barely misses the third. The two undestroyed ships then warp back to Klingon space. You see sparkling lights and then, the familiar sight of a transporter room. You are immediately given food and drink,as you warp back to star fleet headquarters for questioning.
That scene where Captain Mal Reynolds flies the Enterprise into the Death Star trench and blows it up with a Dalek is my favorite Babylon 5 scene of all time!
These words still give me goosebumps more than three decades after TNG premiere: "Space...The Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the starship 'Enterprise.' Its continuing mission: To explore strange new worlds. To seek out new lives and new civilizations. To boldly go where no one has gone before!"
This gets me feeling all sorts of nostalgic. These movies were my childhood and I could watch them on repeat over and over on the VHS player and always be happy to watch them one more time. Those were happy days I am glad I got them. Now if only it were possible to share them and the goodness that was old Star Trek.
IMO, Jerry Goldsmith's music for Star Trek is the definitive music of the franchise. Just like John Williams' is for Harry Potter. IDC if anyone thinks Horner's or Rosenman's or Giacchino's music is better, to me Goldsmith is the sound of Star Trek.
"Space...the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. Its continuing mission: To explore strange new worlds. To seek out new lives and new civilizations. To boldly go where no one has gone before!!"
The theme originated as the theme for 'The Motion Picture.' Then it was adapted, with some modifications as theme for 'Star Trek: TNG.' But any long-term TNG fan will definitely think it's the TNG theme whenever they heard it...
I saw this film way back in 1979!The year I was about to graduate 👩🎓 from High School!I still have the album! It needs to be recorded, someday!I think, this was the last album(that I know of)that I had bought at the Merle Hay Mall!Great memories are coming back, though!Fantastic!
Hope they'll play an iteration of this classic theme in the upcoming 'Star Trek: Picard' series. IMO it''ll be a nice way to honor the new series' roots & heritage.
This theme exists in several of the movies, but this version of it is from Final Frontier. Also, this is from the original score, not the version cut for the film, so the film itself might have part of the song edited, as happens in most films. Not to mention the album I found it on says it's from Final Frontier.

Someday in the far future, someone will be standing on the Bridge of an Earth-built Starship, and he will listen to this Theme as he tells the Helm to Punch it. :)
@@VintageMusic729 Of course it sounds like exploration. I just wonder if Jerry Goldsmith, the composer of this theme, took a lot of inspiration from the Star Wars theme.
It carries a long tradition - and a universe like this can not survive for close to 50 years just like that. Most of the older movies are fun space adventure films. If you get kicks out of visions of the future of humanity in space (and beyond), check out the shows, particularly The Next Generation. If that's your thing, you will not regret it and it will change your life.
+Lumennon DS9 is the best of the entire franchise, with TNG, Voyager, and Enterprise having certain highlight episodes and TOS being dated, but very watchable.
+Transformers And Power Rangers Toy Reviews For me, DS9 is the best of the new shows, with TNG very close behind. But my favorite is still TOS. It has a palpable feeling of being on the edge of the frontier of exploration, and I think the rudimentary sets and SFX actually work in it's favor in that regard.
Star Trek over Star Wars any day. Not picking sides, I wrote an entire essay on how Star Wars is a masterpiece of storytelling and film, but nothing tops Star Trek.
