I just realized the main Romulan was the main Suliban or whatever on Enterprise! Dude definitely has a recognizable soothing and yet sinister voice. Guess that’s why he plays good villains.
Could you just imagine this sequence of Geordi being tortured screaming at the camera during an episode of Reading Rainbow and scaring every little kid to death :D
Knowing the Romulans, those horrors would involve said kids... If Vulcans can imagine mind-shattering horrors (like Tuvok using clips from Event Horizon), picture what Romulans do without the restrictions of their cousins.
Yes. Koval merely bided his time, did his job efficiently (such a precise sort), and probably got his first promotion after Sela broke the cardinal rule of their profession in allowing business to become personal. After that, a few arranged "accidents", a blackmail or a betrayal or two, and he's head of the Tal'shiar. Probably a lot of heads rolled after the disastrously failed Tal'shiar/Obsidian Order joint expedition against the Founders, and Koval just calmly stepped over them all.
It's a different character by canon, but I always see it as Koval as well. It's better connected that way, shows how one rose through the ranks of the Tal'Shiar.
Poor Geordie's always getting captured and tortured. You'd think you'd be quite safe when your best friend is an android who can bend solid steel bars with his bare hands, but noooo. Captured and tortured, all the damn time. Why couldn't that happen to Wesley instead?
This incident alone should put the Treaty of Algeron in abeyance. They kidnapped Geordi right next to Risa, which is proof that Romulans are routinely going deep into Federation space while cloaked.
Enter Commander Sela. One of the true Alpha villains of TNG. Created by alternate universe Picard. Nearly triggered war between the Klingons & the Federation. Nearly brought down the Klingon Empire with the Duras' as her pawns. Nearly invaded Vulcan, even outmaneuvering the great Spock! One villain who truly matched Picard move for move. Only Data ever defeated her, Something even she noted in their final meeting.
and lets not forget, Scotty was killed in TOS once, and got zapped around plenty of times, stuffed into cramped crawlways with live energy flows,... sometimes it does not pay to be an Engineer
Fanfic: And here La forge in an attempt to remain sane through the torture creates an alternate reality in his mind as a safe place where he reads books to children everywhere teaching valuable life lessons as he does all to nurture the good in him
Also disturbingly calm... Without anything permanent... Physically anyway. Making a man suffer without inflicting any physical harm is a staple in Star Trek torture as they don't have the budget or age ratings to show the Romulans using a blowtorch to melt the skin on Geordi's feet going up. Or vaporize a layer of skin making the slightest touch incredibly painful but survivable...
Through all what? They made him look at bad things. He immediately had an extreme reaction. They could make me look at bad images forever, and it wouldn't be horrible.
Unlike Geordi in this scene. We are able to easily ignore whatever we're looking at. He has no choice but to see everything as it's literally transmitted into his mind in the same way normal vision is transmitted (But he can't shut his eyes or tune it out). I'm pretty sure the Romulans showed him things that would put the dark web to shame. Disturbing imagery of people getting chopped to bits while still alive, possibly raped (Nanking basically), slow disintegration atom by atom, effects of Nuclear weapons on humans from the Earth Romulan War. any manner of horrors we as humans would find too abhorrent to watch... If I listed all the possibilities I'd be on an FBI watchlist lol. Romulans have less inhibitions when it comes to disturbing shit due to their Vulcan heritage... They are civilized, but they are more prone to emotional outbursts and sadism than any human ever could. If the Romulan calls something a "Horror"... You better believe it's a horror lol.
“And after we force you to watch “Spock’s Brain”, we’re going to make you watch “Shades of Gray”, “Profit and Lace”, “A Night in Sickbay” and “Threshold”.” La Forge: Meh I can handle that. “Then we’ll force you to watch the entirety of Star Trek Discovery” La Forge: NOOOOOOOOO!
S3E7:(The Enemy) SD-43349.2, Laforge works with Bochra a Romulan by using his VISOR and Laforge's Tri-corder. When Bochra returns to his commanding officer it must of been discussed in his report that the Federation officer has a wearable device that can be weaponized. S3E10:(The Defector) SD-43462.5, Admiral Jarok, a high-ranking Romulan officer used in a mission portraying as a deserter to the Federation was questionable, on the horizon Romulans are causing a serious conflict.
Yes, it took me awhile to connect the dots, but it's all there. He explained his VISOR to a Romulan in "The Enemy," then that Romulan told his superiors everything he'd learned, and they put their plan together from there.
They did actually. Season 7 episode "Interface" they developed a feedback suit that allowed him to connect to a probe and control it remotely with his brain and see what the probe saw.
The Dominion used such devices in place of Viewscreens. They were uncomfortable for Humans to use but were commonplace for Jem'Hadar, Vorta, and later Cardassian officers. Viewscreens are far more sophisticated than a mere camera video feed... It used insanely accurate computer generated imagery to reconstruct the environment surrounding the ship well beyond visual range. It often simplified and condensed sensor data to make it more understandable to the officers on the bridge. For example, the viewscreen would make ships or planets appear far closer than they actually were. In TOS it was even used to reconstruct the bridge of a Romulan Bird of Prey with perfect accuracy just from detecting a transmission sent from it in code.
Given the technology of the 24th century, it always bothered me that they didn't have LaVar Burton be his doppelganger. What if someone who knew Geordi was at that conference????
Yea, they could've had a Geordi-clone then drop in a line to the effect of, "And we have many more to fill the role of the Enterprise crew!", which would have at least given some consistency to that idiotic Shinzon story.
S3E15:(Yesterday's Enterprise) SD-43625.2, Year 2366 a subspace deformation causing a timeline anomaly possibly during the battle between Enterprise C and Romulan warbirds unexpectedly occurred and was presumed destroyed while Enterprise C was defending a Klingon outpost 22 years past. Guinan is fully aware what has changed and during a senior staff briefing LaForge questions how can Guinan know even if she's been altered like themselves. Captain Rachel Garrett was killed in year 2366 but most of her crew died in 2344. Lt. Yar request transfer to Enterprise C and goes back into Their timeline. (Prime Directive Violation) and with the original timeline restored Guinan asks LaForge more information about Lt. Yar and is still seen wearing the alternate starfleet uniform.
Love an episode where Geordi gets tortured. It took me a while to figure out who that mysterious figure is played by. You had to listen to her voice. I was cool with that.
Wonder who the look-like of Geordi really is. A Romulan surgically altered as human? Or would it be a human collaborator pledging allegiance to Romulus?
Since we saw the likes of Picard or Troy receiving plastic surgery to become Romulans, I would wager that Romulans can do the same thing in reverse. Would be oddly convenient for there to be a human collaborator who looks the exact same as Geordi.
this is why i like the romulanms, they are willing to make their enemies suffer on the deepest possible levels. same with the cardassians, I like the cardassians for their more direct extreme pain methods of torture.
Odd he didn't try to close his eyes. Even though it wouldn't work, that would be the reflexive response. If I were in Geordi's position, this would be a long and fruitless endeavor for the Romulans. At the end, it would be like this: Romulan: "Go back to your ship, you're of no use to us." Me: "You people are sickos showing me crap like that."
If the ability to shuthis eyelids hadn't developed his eyelids would be permanently shut. It takes effort to keep your eyelids open - and if he had never learned to blink while his eyelids were open his eyes would be dry as a desert by now.
This torture scene was hilarious 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 the Romulans come off as tryhard even here. And the episode ends on a disasterous note for them. Now mind you I'm not making light of the Romulan's acts here, just the Romulan's nature.
NonstopRam it wasn't until the Enterprise-D was destroyed that Starfleet seriously considered the VISOR a security risk, it was the admiral that appeared in Star Trek First Contact that ordered Geordi to either undergo ocular implant surgery or lose his posting on the Enterprise. However at the end of the episode "Loud as a Whisper" it was hinted that Geordi would get cloned eyes with optic nerve regeneration or ocular implants, however he declined the offer due to the tech not being as advanced as the VISOR as well as there being no guarantee that the cloned implants and regenerative procedure would work.
Hey, Isn't there an episode where Geordi and a Romulan are trapped on a planet and must rely on each others eyes and legs? If you could tell me which episode I would be thankful.
I know this is a joke but I'm going into seriousness here. The Biggest horror they probably made him relive was probably the childhood trauma when he was trapped in his house with fire everywhere, this was before he got his first VISOR. He wouldn't have been able to see it but it's one of the scariest moments of his life. It took a few hours before his parents were able to get him out of the house.
+Dom Oranzi As interesting as that may be,he did not make that comment for the seriousness of that particular scenario, so please in the future, don't make such as serious comment to someone elses joke,it is just so out of place to say such a thing.
What is most appalling about this episode is that Geordi cut off Beethoven's 6th symphony for some lame Spanish guitar in the previous scene. Geordi deserved Romulan abduction for that crime against humanity.
