Despite years of effort I rarely every much warmed up to her, but I really enjoyed that moment here too. Perhaps because this skit's writing failed to capitalize on its promise (except for the telepathy bit), and so nuking it from orbit was the only logical thing left to do. With the Fraiser cast appearing in their prime, and a big set budget, and Mulgrew bridging the casts, I was hoping for a little more "Wow," ... but this whole skit seemed like a collection of "I hate Mondays" jokes.
@@ZenGeekDad I took it that Janeway was tired about their arguing about useless things, so she acted like she was going to self-destruct the ship until they stopped.
Good fun seeing Kate Mulgrew playing it straight in this comedy sketch, even if at times you can see she's trying to suppress her giggles. It might be 25 years since the series began, but I never tire of Voyager. It's still an imaginative and engaging Star Trek series.
Janeway once said that before getting lost in the Delta Quadrant, she always maintained a professional distance from her crew. I guess now we understand why.
"And we've _just_ relandscaped!" A dog from Earth finds itself on an alien planet, and starts digging up sacred plants, thus starting an interstellar war. I call dibs.
Well didn’t this kinda happen in JJ Abram’s Star Trek? I mean that dog disappeared.. Scotty told the story.. well, finally he showed up. Poor cutie doggy ;)
@@lianeli5406 I mean Porthos would have been long dead by Scotty's time, unless they have found a to dramatically extend the lifespan of dogs in the 23rd century.
@@ShiftingDrifter Picard was fond of Earl Grey Tea. Janeway enjoyed her coffee. And this is why the two captains could never get along, and _Voyager_ had to be lost in the Delta Quadrant. Thank you, Q.
I don't know about Jane Leeves, but the others were stage actors, so they'd be used to it. It shiws how good they are that they also knew to pull back from full stage acting mode because it was veing televised.
@@709mash Yeah they could've played up a few jokes with some of the show cross overs from the Cheers / Frasier cast and Star Trek You could have Kristie Alliey reprise her role as a Vulcan and mention to Quark about how she had an old ancestor that ran a bar back on Earth. Then they could agree about how much trouble humans are deal with.. Kelsy Grammer could reprise his role as Captain Bateson from that one off episode of TNG and remark that he's in a rush because he's out of time... and doesn't have the time to explain a time paradox.. Niles actually reminds me a lot of Barclay so it might be funny to pair the two up for a minor bit with them both complaining about food or drinks..
I'm absolutely mind blown that I have only just discovered this. I love Voyager and Frasier. This was great and kind of freaky! They collided two worlds and for a moment I was questioning reality. I wish there was more of this.
"While we were in port, I had them install a banality filter; it keeps us from being bothered by any messages that are overly insipid or jejune." Classic.
"Jejune" was apparently a gag word the writers in Frazier liked using frequently. I recall one Episode Niles said, "I just like saying the word 'jejune'." And another where Frazier fell smitten with his date and later told Niles, "She even used the word jejune!" That show did have some great writing.
And then apparently he's also the guy who wants to have his way with all the women on the ship, including the captain. He doesn't want to hear about it, but he'll certainly think about it. :D
This is from 1996, a celebration of 30 years of Star Trek. Fraiser shot on a neighbouring stage at Paramount, which is why the cast is pretending to audition in the skit, dad on the chair and all.
Makes me wonder if, had the US version of Red Dwarf had gone along the lines of using essentially American character traits, as The Office did, than trying to recreate the originals, the series may have fared better.
@@flacidhouse350 "Pepperoni!" "Well done Mr. Broccoli." …And also when Quark and Rom are in the access conduit next to Sisko's office and Quark tells Rom their Moogi is involved with the Grand Negus and you can hear Rom's muffled "No….no…nooooo" from inside Sisko's office. The look I=on his ace when they come out is and forever will be priceless to me.
This was hilarious! Kate Mulgrew did a fantastic job in this skit and so didn't everybody from Frasier. Mashing Star Trek:Voyager and Frasier together was genius.
It's a sketch. A skit is improvised. Is it genius though? I doubt there was that much thought put into it since the shows both filmed on the Paramount lot right near each other. The SNL sketch where they reimagined the ship as being The Love Boat: The Next Generation made more sense. They didn't really mash these two together as much as drop characters from Frasier into Voyager. I'm sorry to be the wet blanket. It just isn't that interesting to me and goes on way too long after the joke has lost it's initial humour.
@@uosdwiSrdewoH Sorry, I don't care what you think. I'm 44 years old and not in the frame of mind to change my opinions based on what some unknown rando says. I think it's hilarious and genius and if you don't like it, tough! Go rain on somebody else's parade. I don't really care what your thoughts or feelings are about this skit 😄. You should go get a sense of humor and a personality because you definitely need one, man😄🤣😂!!!
@@uosdwiSrdewoHThe start of the video sets up the premise that this is a recreation of what the audition process was like. It isn’t putting Frasier actors into Voyager; it’s having them act out a fake audition for the show.
In the real world Janeway and Frasier shared a bathroom, if you went into the bathroom near Fraiser's door there was a scenery flat then a gap between that set and the next sound stage including the door for the head in Janeway's ready room. It's shown on a behind the scenes video with Robert Picardo showing you. (although Janeway only ever used the head door once.)
They should absolutely get these guys back to appear in Lower Decks. Sadly John wouldnt be able to but everyone else could. I think that would be amazing.
I used that line on a woman once, “...I just want to boldly go where so many men have gone before...” and she laughed so hard, I think it was the funniest thing she’d ever heard.
Kirstie Allie was also in ST2. I heard that they tried to get her to be in the Next Gen episode with Kelsey as his first officer but it didn't work out.
"The others had to 'scramble' and 'do the best they could' in the business." And Frasier went on to become one of the top-rated sitcoms of all time, coincidentally being the spinoff of Cheers.
"The others had to 'scramble' and 'do the best they could' in the business." That's the joke. Frasier was already into season 3 when this was made so they knew it was a hit.
Kate was so amazing staying in character....I was 😂 at all the Frasier people and she was solid. I love Voyager but I think it could have done with some of this kinda humor....70 years is a long time to be stuck in space w no laughs🤷🏼♀️
I just came across this as I have been watching Star Trek deep space nine on Netflix. I find it weird how RU-vid finds out what I have been watching. Lol. Loved that they had the dog too.
It would be so funny if this the real cppt jane way from a prallel universe and Q send her to our universe, and she must had do this act do get back into her universe.
I freaking LOVE (Kate Mulgrew's) Captain Janeway's Voice!! The way she talks! : ) That was a cool cross over, I wish Seven Of Nine and Frasier had been there though. It would of been funnier..
NERD ALERT: I have answers to both of those questions. 1) Seven of Nine hadn't been introduced at the time of this clip... Star Trek's 30th Anniversary (this clip was part of a TV special celebrating the milestone) was in 1996. It wasn't until a season later that Seven came aboard the Voyager. 2) I believe Kate Mulgrew stepped in at the last minute and the script was tweaked because of a relapse in Kelsey Grammer's fight with addiction (but don't quote me on that).
Reilly Monster Nooooo. "Absent were regulars Kelsey Grammer and Dan Butler, both of whom having played other characters on The Next Generation and Voyager, respectively." en.memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Webster
that's what I thought it was too. Though I had a feeling it wasn't since Mulgrew was in it when in actuality the French Canadian woman actually got the part, but was kind of forced out and Kate came in and took over.
Being like the crew member on the right, I'm from England too - and so I never saw this before! It's great! Love that Kate Mulgrew is able to keep such a straight face; great actress!
Been watching this clip for years, never fails to put a smile on my face. Usually watch it when I am feeling abit depressed, typically after watching a episode of Discovery
I saw this when it aired on the 25th Anniversary of Trek and just LOVED IT!!!!! Also I remember now: this was when the ponytail was first debut as well! This skit was hilarious. :)
