Sailor Moon is very progressive, but, in the 200 episodes of the anime, I didn't see Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune screaming that they were lesbians. Their love was portrayed through their actions and words. They didn't even need a kiss scene to show the audience that they love each other. In The Acolyte, even the actresses need to point out that their characters have a thing for each other, in case it wasn't clear enough. Naoko Takeuchi's approach to a lesbian romance is subtle yet powerful. Leslye Headland approached lesbian love with the all the subtlety and finesse of a sledgehammer.

In the West End Games Star Wars RPG, there was a force power that could "block" blaster bolts and even lightsaber strikes. This is what Darth Vader did on Cloud City when Han shot him. It was useful, but risky because if you failed at the attempt you got hit. Aside from that it has been so long I don't remember the details. I think it was either concentration or had to be reset or maintained with each hit, meaning it wasn't an infinite, infallible shield, just extra credit. That is fairly obscure though, so I don't expect they knew about that. If they based it on Vader, he wouldn't have needed the armor. This could have been shown by cut robes but undamaged skin, then fear on one of the Jedi who names the power, upping the stakes.

So, the use of cortosis is actually factually correct. Had this been done by competent writers, directors, producers, and actors. Another words had this movie been done right this would have had setup to educate the audience prior to this scene, or we'd all be engaged and enjoying the show we'd let it go to perhaps later get an explanation on what the material was. Not to mention it then brings normies who don't know the lore up to speed. To your point about rendering lightsabers useless. The gun rendered the bow less efficient it did not render it useless, my dude. You have to understand that cortosis was rare and difficult to work with in its native form. Sort of like titanium. However, cortosis is not as strong as beskar. Continued strikes or being hit by electricity guns would sort of overload it. That said, it did have the ability to dissipate energy. So, if you took a few shots, it offers idea protection. I have no issues with him using the gauntlet and helmet in the manor he did. A sith lord would use every advantage against his enemies. It is clear to see that the Jedi are caught by surprise when their blades fail. A true sith would have killed them instantly. It's not cortosis that's the issue here. The material existed in EU (Legends) material Disney threw out. So, you couple an incompetently written, directed and acted movie with insanly stupid plot, character narratives that flip on a dime, Jedi Masters that act like padawans and padawans that act like Jedi masters this issue was never the cortosis. The only thing this proves is your better off reading the books.

What I find interesting about the metal that short circuits the lightsabers is that it's a very hard to obtain and difficult material in the pre Disney extended universe. The extended universe that was de-canonised a long time ago.
