It's BB-8 versus BB-8! And another BB-8! Which one will survive?
If you've already seen The Force Awakens, you probably love this droid. We're comparing the Sphero and Target exclusive Hasbro remote control BB-8 toys, plus Disney Store's BB-8 which is not remote controlled but still fun and easy to operate for little kids.

actually, i found that the sphero bb-8 works smoother on carpet because he dosent spin around everywhere.

8:20 Actually sphero has great customer service and if you battery dies like mine did after a YEAR of use they will send you a new one just like they sent me one. So don't worry! :)

I'm quite happy with my Hasbro BB-8. The ball part actually rolls around, it's big enough to be impressive, but small enough to be a desk ornament, and it makes really cute idle sounds and movements.

When I was in (Finnish) 6th grade my teacher, who was also the principal of our school, got like 10 of these small sphere BB-8’s for our school. It was super cool, loved it. We always raced them kn the halfway if we had time. I visited my school in December and they still had them. Yes my teacher/principal was a big fan of Star Wars, and he thaught us many thing about electronics, computers, robotin and everything. My achool was just regular small town school in Finland, but he was just into them and many of our project were like this.

You forgot about the almost life size remote control/voice activated one. I have it. It is amazing. It functions just like the real BB-8 and responds to voice commands and will come to you when you call it.

+BabyBobaFette Actually Sphero made the prop droid that's in the movie. But I agree it's abit odd that the Disney one is so terrible, I would have expected more from them. Though being Disney they are aimed at things more for children and the Sphero droid is clearly aimed at teens and adults.

+TzuCraft That was a lie released by Disney because they have a share in Sphero. The Sphero toy runs nothing like the film prop and they have admitted to having no part in the making of the film prop.

+BabyBobaFette The Disney BB8 is a great toy, we have it at home. If you want a toy that won't need fangled apps or a remote control this is the best option. I can't see the point of the target one, too flimsy and over-priced. The Shero one requires a mobile - no good for younger kids. We have the Disney Version at home and my son loves it. My only complaint is that the antenna is flimsy, and one broke the first day of him playing with it.

I got a shpero one at Christmas. it had great sound effects, easy controls, and it doesn't feel like just a little toy thanks to all of the sensors and smart inner workings of it. I think if you plan to get one, get the sphero. you won't be disappointed with it. the packaging was nicer than the ones smartphone come in!

What a kick ass reviewer you are! You completely get what people DON'T want. So many people that do reviews like this make it all about themselves and miss the point entirely. You don't. You review the product impartially, you get right to the point about the plus and minuses, and the excellent video and editing keeps things moving. Have you reviewed the Air Hogs Millennium Falcon drone and X-Wing Fighter r/c plane yet? I heard the Falcon drone looks awesome and flies awesome but the X-Wing looks great and flies awfully.

One thing you didn't mention is that Sphero does have sound, but comes from the phone rather than the droid itself. Probably the only thing that I don't like about it.

I agree with you!! I love sphero so much I will only buy it, the reason why it is the most expensive is because it is waterproof, app controls like: (wandering around, do special head moves and (of course) moving by the app), charges and goes super fast

i originally got the sphero one and I am a reg sphero owner but ended up returning it for many reasons, then I got the hasbro target one mainly because its the biggest 9 in and most like the movie one even tho its ball doesnt spin it has a working light on it and it about the right scale for the interactive yoda and r2d2 figures that are 16 in tall

You should try this again with the droid depot bb8 at galaxy’s edge! :) he’s $99.99, but it’s worth it. It works similarly to hasbros. It comes with battery’s already in it. It doesn’t come apart easily, and the head doesn’t fall off. You can give him a personality chip at the depot itself to make it feel more like YOUR droid. However, it already comes with voice lines if you don’t wanna pay extra for the personality chip. But here’s what sold me: he will react and interact with areas in galaxy’s edge! I took him and laughed a lot at the characters reactions, and I was pretty surprised when I found out that BB-8 was actually looking around the area himself. It was sick! Definitely recommend!

I love it !!! People who have probably never even touched a sphero or know anything about how phone apps work are complaining about it !!! My daughter got hers today and it is AMAZING !!! Just be sure to user a newer version of the android app... Its does NOT work on the older ones... Good thing we have iphones...

Excellent video review. Clear concise and to the point. I'd watched a few other videos on these toys before but tuned out because they were far less, I guess professional, not sure how to describe it. I have the hasbro one and I got mine at toysrus for about 70 dollars. I want the sphero one but my local store was sold out. I even brought my bb8 to the premiere with me and he charmed the heck out of the press :)

Excellent video! The only thing missing was a vote from your daughters! We have a one year old and a three year old and the three year old loves watching the Sphero on patrol and the one year old just loves watching everything. I'm tempted with the Disney one for its durability but it was my wife who said that she wished you'd have asked your daughter's opinion :). Great work on the video though and thanks for the clear review of all three :).

I got the BB-8 Sphero for Christmas.. Hates carpet, as stated but it is the best of all. I love it, Yes the head dose pop off at times but it is funny as hell given all the things it dose.

I own the Sphero Bb-8 and you added that the Hasbro has idle noises, but so does the Sphero. You just have to go into the options on the app and turn the sounds on. The toy is extremely vocal if you turn the sound on.

Does the head fly away from the bigger ball then goes back to base after it has taken a full 20 minutes video of a radius - like an outdoor party or even large room party? It should return to base when ended. Does it? My Mom said its a good concept with potential to be more.

If your me watching in 2018 the sphyro bb8 has been updated now it's a lot more interactive the head doesn't come off by itself anymore and on portal mode it actually learns the envierment.

Sphero says on their website that should the battery stop charging for any of their robots (Sphero [2.0] and BB-8) they will replace it at no cost. So that's the reassurance that you won't end up with the proverbial expensive paper weight.

Disney has a $100+ BB 8 you can build at Galaxies Edge in Disney Land/World which is almost fully customizable along with a R2/4 customizable droid.

I thought the movie lackluster - BB8 kept it entertaining. And I thought, I want one of those rolly robots! I'll wait till Sphero comes out with a larger model.
