You can. But iOS devices won't be able to connect to it. Android should be fine.

Yes you can - just be aware that iOS devices won't be able to communicate with a HC05, Android devices should be ok.

I've watched several BB8 builds on youtube. Nice job on this one - clearly well thought out in advance. Everyone seems to struggle with it wobbling forward and back whenever it stops. Wouldn't the solution to this be to have the motors slow to a stop instead of stop abruptly? I haven't attempted a build of my own yet, and am just getting acquainted with Arduino code, but I wonder if the arduino code could be done in such a way that motors always slow before stopping. Then you could change the deceleration rate to slowdown as quick as possible without wobble. Curious if you think this would work.

Thanks. Yes that's a great idea and would help prevent the wobble when accelerating or decelerating. They often refer to this as 'soft start' or 'soft stop' I believe. Here is an example: electronicsforu.com/electronics-projects/dc-motor-starter-using-arduino-uno-board

Thanks. BB8 is a difficult one to troubleshoot as we can't see what's happening inside. Does it sound like the wheel(s) are slipping on the inside?

could u please add files with a smaller size that still fitt the arduino electronics? my wanhao kant print these spheres and i am afraid if a down size it a bit it will not fit, thanks in advance. its so cool!

Thanks for your compliment Sjoerd. I'm sorry but I don't have the time to redesign the internals to be able to print it on a smaller print bed, it would be hard work. (The space inside is tight as is). Perhaps you might know someone who could print the two parts of the body for you?

o wait i can print this, used the wrong settings on the slicer, but it takes a more then 24 houres for only 1 dome part. Could u please suggest some settings? so i get the right result instead of waiting and getting crap..?

I printed mine with 20% infill (not that it used any), with automatic supports switch on and a 0.15mm layer height. It took a very long time but the small layer height is important for getting a smooth sphere near the top of the print.

Hi! we are having a trouble, we are doing this bb8 for a project of school, we cant upload the code when we connect the motor shield to the arduino, we have this problem: avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding avrdude: stk500_getsync() attempt 1 of 10: not in sync: resp=0x60 do u know what to do? if it connected only the arduino it works

Yes, you can control it with an Android phone. You just need to find an app that works with the HM10 Bluetooth module.

Hi, it is awesome. i printed all parts and ı started to install. ı have problem, ı add adafruıt lıbrary code seems workıng but ıt ıs not movıng when ı send serial monitor. I tried motors is working fine (give 5v from outsıde) ı replace uno also ı replaced motorshıeld but nope ıt ıs not fıxed. ıt ıs uploadıng perfect but ıt ıs not workıng when ı send sıgnal from serıal monıtor. could u help me. ı dont want to waste my 5 day prıntıng , materıals and all efforts :)

I just temporarily remove the tape holding the two halves together and pop open the sphere.

Nope, I paint it without the tape on. Clear tape then goes on over the top of the paint.

video looks great, the constant loud quiet music is enraging. Just normalise it all so it's not quiet, then loud then quiet then loud. Keep it as quiet background stuff, and leave your narration at the same volume. It's interesting enough that the music's just detracting, not adding to it.

The code wont work. I copied and pasted your code but when I try to run it or download it to bb8 I get an error message saying "no such file or directory" on line 27, where the code says" include < AFMotor.h>" I have googled the problem but can't find a solution, thanks

@@DIYMachines hi, my first problem was fixed, but now I'm having another problem. When I open the serial monitor on the arduino IDE and type a letter nothing happens. Also when I try it over bluetooth still nothing happens. I have tested the motors and they both work. I am using the hc-05 blutooth module with the android app if that makes a difference, but I don't think it should. Other people have used this bluetooth module and it should work. Any ideas? Thanks so much!
