One of my biggest pet-peeves (not a actual critique, just irks me) is people exclaiming "oh its pinless!" On a hinge n swivel joint....like yea...those have always been pinless...because it doesn't involve pins
I feel like we should’ve got Two Grogu figures in that solo release, one standing and one sitting, there we could’ve got that new head with the second figure. I think that would’ve made the value, especially with the first release of him being $10. I think it’s a fair price for 2
Me personally, I thought this was one of the lines worse years yet. Not that there was bad product out, just that a lot of it looked REALLY ROUGH and did not seem worth picking up for the higher pricing. Excited for the KOTOR and Mara Jade figures next year though.
Great video, LL! There's been quite a few that I've passed on this year simply because they just didn't look good. And some that were absurdly overpriced for what you get. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. I also have no plans on stopping, just being a little more choosy. Overall, I'm still happy with the line. 😀
i just wanted to say that im having a great time watching your videos, you sound like a really nice person and it is nice (and refreshing) to hear someone talking about negative stuff in a nice way thank you person named look :)
for me the Cobb Vanth was easily the most disappointing release of 2022. almost $40 and the paint was just bad. the iconic Boba Fett helmet dent wasn't even painted. i haven't even been able to finish my repaint of him just because of how disappointing that figure is in my opinion.
Awesome vid! I passed on quite a bit this year definitely more choosey but I think the line is doing really well and excited for 2023. Happy Holidays 😎
Nice Video Luke! I respect your opinion of the Obi-Wan figure even though I don’t necessarily agree with it. I have the Wandering Jedi Obi-Wan figure too and I absolutely adore him! Obi-Wan is my favorite Star Wars character, so my figure of him means a lot to me. I tend to carry him around with me wherever I go because I suffer from anxiety attacks and he’s a huge source of comfort for me, so my Obi-Wan has been well loved. 😅
The thing that aggravated me the most with the Anakin and Obi-Wan archive re-releases is the “paler than Palpatine” skin tone Anakin had and the blind ignorance to not use the newer Obi-Wan head sculpt. These figures need a full overhaul ASAP. Brand new Jedi bodies for both of them. I’m fine with re-use on headsculpts and parts that were done very well, but Anakin needs almost a 100% overhaul and they can re-use Obi-Wan’s clone wars head. I don’t think Hasbro understands they’d get more than their money’s worth making completely new sculpts for these characters
Great vid. Good points. Im disappointed in the Mandalorian version of Luke. The clothes are look more return of jedi than the clothes he wore in Mandalorian and book of Boba Fett. The Hot toys version got it correct but too expensive for me.
Total absence of AOTC figures! Hasbro could have rereleased some of those cool prequel Jedi's on a nice cardback ^^, Chewie dipped in oil was the worst figure not only of 2022 but of all time 😂, also Boba dipped in oil was a fun one too 🙃my DIY Barbara Vizla plastic free box is way more SEXY!! Love the videos you make, keep doing the Shelf Series content, I love it!! You are RU-vidr of The Year in my mind... 💯
Great insights man! I agree with the Jedi wandering Kenobi figure. He’s not the best Kenobi figure, the head sculpt wasn’t executed properly. I do wish he came with interchangeable hands.
I’ve recently pretty much dropped TBS in favor of TVC, but I always appreciate your videos/hot takes. You’re always more than fair and you killed me with the thumb nail for this one. Happy holidays LL! ✌️
Great video! I pretty much echo all of your points. I thought Omega was great though. Usually Hasbro simply charges full price even for smaller characters like Yoda, but with Omega they packed in some extra accessories to make it seem like a mainline release. Wasting a mainline slot on Grogu was definitely the biggest sin! -Justin
I really like the vibe and structure of this video. I watched your other more positive video and loved that as well. My complaint is definitely price, I'm much more picky and choosey now when I used to buy each new wave by the case and either keep the extras or sell them off/gift them to people. My biggest hope for 2023 is that we finally get Durge. Even though Delta Squad aren't as good as they could be, they're characters I've been dying and wishing for since the black series started (I'm 24, grew up with the game and prequels) so since they finally are happening it's a dream come true! Durge is a long time childhood favorite character of mine from the comics and of course the OG clone wars series. I would absolutely melt if Hasbro finally brought Durge to life.. I really hope they make it happen!
Another dissapointment to me is the new plastic free blisters. I received and opened KX and Battle droid these days and the way they are "protected"... Didnt like it at all
I feel the rancor haslab was the downfall after that I lost a lot of hope for Hasbro with Star Wars. The most recent AT-ST release didn't really sell multi-early releases. The red/black series .375 box I got at Ross for 10 bucks. The pricing is crazy. I just not preordering the black series or marvel because everything is discounted. Today I got (2) fallen jedi flame troopers at gamestop for 11 bucks each. Last week best buy had Figrin D'an for 9.99 which means you got 5 for the price of 2. That is what Hasbro is doing to collectors.
I agree, a complete shame that they did not commemorate Episode 2. I loved those original light blue packages and there are so many characters that need figures or updated figures
@@StraightOtohGunga Yea, it's like they want to forget the prequels exist or something. It's very annoying. It's even more annoying how most of the prequel figures are either 10 years old or 95% re-use( Plo and Kit).
Prequels sell man. The Jedi figures fly off the shelves where I live, same with most clones. Sequel characters though... I think it boils down to deals that we don't know of, for example Disney saying that Hasbro needs to produce X% of figures based on their newer films and series and so on... I am hopeful for prequel characters as they are pretty much printing money on them but maybe we'll have to wait a little longer
Totally agree with the last one, prices. Imo figures can be better or worse but the prices increasement is too much, going like about +5€ minimum each figure
I’m sorry but we as fans deserve better from Hasbro. Not to say they don’t make good figures, because they do. It’s not all bad. The death watch Mando is great. The new boba is fun (and deluxe, for some reason.) Cad Bane is a great figure. Mando Ahsoka is nice. But it feels like for every great figure we get there’s 2 mediocre to bad ones. I’m sick of hearing people make excuses for this multi-million dollar company and tricking themselves into buying more. “Oh, the budget, ah but it’s close enough, eh it doesn’t really matter, I’ll just buy it anyway.” This is why we don’t have more great figures. (Not calling anyone out, just saying in general for the fanbase.) People just keep buying and buying, even if they don’t think it’s good, just to have it in their collection. Every single bad batch member has inaccuracies and problems. Any clone trooper they make is bound to be wrong in a multitude of ways. Lazy reuse and straight up incorrect details like on the Mando s2 Luke Skywalker, Koska Reeves, imperial crosshair, the clone Lieutenant, s7 Ahsoka, the elite squad trooper, the force unleashed senate guard, Ned-b, all of delta squad, Fordo, most of the comic figures, and many more. Figures that nobody asked for, like carbonized and the credit collection (which is basically false advertising,) and then not making figures everyone is asking for, like new ep3 anakin and obi-wan. “Deluxe” figures that only include the bare minimum accessories that the character should come with. (Seriously, what exactly is deluxe about Cobb Vanth? If he came with anything less, the figure would be incomplete.) Having no alternate hands. Seriously, you can’t make a fist or a relaxed hand for clones? Just a set of flesh hands you can use for so many figures? No double joints anywhere. Making army-builder figures store exclusives that sell out in under a minute. All this, and for 30+ bucks a pop? “They’re not 30 dollars, they’re like 25!” Sure, when bought in stores, stores that never have anything in stock. Most people end up buying online and have to pay tax and shipping, usually 30+ dollars for a figure with inaccurate parts, crappy, lacking paint, and minimal accessories. It’s getting ridiculous. Like I said, it’s not all bad, but I find myself feeling disappointed or confused more often than I feel excited or happy nowadays. Again not trying to attack anyone. If you enjoy a figure, great. But fans of this line deserve so much better for what they are investing.
Hello Luke thanks for sharing your thoughts on this year's bad releases. I have on occasion purchased a carbonized figure and credit collection figure. I usually use them as a commander of troops and such. I agree the rerelease of Lando Skiff Guard was dumb, a wasted archive figure spot that could have been used for a better figure and the Emperor, also rerelease for Jedi, another wasted archive figure spot. I don't care a lot about Boba Fett, the black armor should have been the Jedi Fett figure not the original that is pushing 10 years old. And that outrageous price for the old figure, no paint apps, and missing his pistol I think. Just like Hasbro stiffed the Riot Scout Trooper's pistol. Hasbro has been giving us new figure molds but they just won't retire those old ones. If Hasbro uses old molds, we should get the figures at lower prices. Well I've complained long enough. Take care of yourself Luke and I hope you have a Merry Christmas 🎄. Tom
I was disappointed in the 187th trooper. I don’t like the cream off white they used, since it doesn’t matches the other troopers. Especially since in the show they are the same white from what we can tell.
My biggest disappointment with sev was the lack of his back pack attachment. Also how the hell is it 20th anniversary of attack of the clones, and we don't have a newly done jango
My pet peeves are that although in general the sculpts are amazing, the paint apps are being skimped on. Often the articulation is poor. Most figures can barely bend forward or back. Knee and elbow bends aren't great and no bicep swivel.
I agree that dropping the ball on Obi Wan is more than just the most disappointing figure of 2022, but maybe in the entire line of Black Series. Seeing how I am not a big time collector, not having a good Obi Wan after all these years is glaring.
What black series needs to do is improve the accuracy of the character’s likenesses. But that won’t change unless Hasbro raises the price point. I want to see more accurate head sculpts like the mafex mando luke but that price point is in the 60$ but really worth it. Another thing I’m bummed out about is that we didn’t get a BS rogue one vader or Kenobi vader. We did get a Kenobi vader but that’s just rerelease and repaint that ain’t a new sculpt
I was pretty angry when after not being able to find Hunter anywhere in his initial release, they canclled the reissue after I already have all the other bad batch guys. That's just great. And the season 2 one will have a different look and deco and won't fit with the season one batch. And all the while, Lando keeps getting repacked over and over again!
@@LandspeederLuke - Looks good, but I haven't seen it in person. I'm debating on the Walmart version which is boxed or the Target exclusive which is card backed. I'll be meeting the actor [Stephen Costantino] who played the Gamorrean Guard at the Chiller Theatre Expo in April and get it autographed. The Walmart version is nicer, but the Target version is exclusive.
The Black Series has produced some truly standout figures, which makes the lazy kitbashing and repaints that much more egregious. I think until the new CEO gets kicked to the curb we're going to get a lot more disappointments in 2023...
