Biggest change for me is that they added a slow mo when you are using the scanner. The og game never had that and you would pretty much die if you stopped and tried to scan while fighting.
@somenobody987

Was thinking the same thing! I don’t remember the original game having this. This actually makes scanning bounties possible.

This has been my go to game for 22yrs. I've mastered countering the maclunkys and found myself a complete noob using the modern control settings. I'm a big nerd with a little brain and am happy as a pig in 💩 Great to the point review. Can't wait for your review on outlaws

The sniper in the original sometimes had that issue where the characters were completely immune to any damage, but can be annoying when needing that shot to hit

I may be the odd one but I actually prefer the legacy controls. I have the muscle memory, and those controls are in some ways more precise and more convenient. I like that the target lock button is R - it’s a very frequently used feature and clicking an analog stick is simply much more clunky. Additionally, I found that shooting with ZR is less efficient - I prefer the legacy controls here as well which use the Y button for this because shooting with Y allows you to quickly tap the button with your thumb for very quick bursts. For me personally, this is much easier to do with my thumb than with my index finger.

It sucked but I did it lol and I have to say it's my 3rd favorite star wars game of all time. One of my favorite aspects was finding a bounty. Because if you didn't actively search for them, you'd just kill them on accident or miss it and lose them unless you restarted over which brought more weight to the game.

I switched to the legacy controls as well. I have the muscle memory and also, using the right trigger for shooting is just clunky and not precise, at least on the Switch. You can also shoot faster by tapping the button repeatedly and this is easier to do with your thumb than with your index finger - well, at least that’s how it is for me… It feels like the modern scheme is for more casual gameplay.
@tomnewton4320
@tomnewton4320 Месяц назад
@somenobody987 the lock on aim is clunky for sure. Seems to find any enemy but the one you wanted to shoot even people on a platform above you, the flamethrower is bad for this. However I am having a hell of a good time with this.
@somenobody987
@somenobody987 Месяц назад
@@tomnewton4320 The game is buggy but it’s still one of my all time favourites. What I meant regarding the clunky controls was that the modern control scheme actually makes them worse when using the target lock and shooting, at least on the Switch. I don’t like controls that rely on me clicking the analog stick that I also use to control the camera, it gives me some form of anxiety... Clicking the stick is just not as convenient as clicking a button. And using the right trigger for shooting works, but personally I find using the Y button much easier. Could be that I’m just not used to modern controls.

Idk why everyone thought this game was so hard, it really wasnt. Tusken Canyon was a pain in the ass a bit but wasn’t too terrible. Also I think I might be the only one, but the older control scheme seems a lot better imo, it’s a lot easier to spam the shoot button when it’s square for some reason.

Capturing secondary bounties is not the weakest part of the game, not an afterthought, not a weird pace breaker, and doesn’t break the flow of the game. You get TGI Cards depending on the amount of credits you earn capturing secondary bounties and there are trophies related to capturing bounties and collecting a certain amount of credits. So you happily ignoring it is silly. Everything else is 👍🏼
@somenobody987
@somenobody987 Месяц назад
Capturing secondary bounties definitely feels like a thing that was just tacked on. Sometimes you have hordes of enemies attacking you and in between those enemies is a bounty that’s shooting at you. If you kill them without scanning, you don’t get the bounty. If you scan them while they’re shooting at you, well… It’s not healthy for you! This remaster slows the time down when you’re using the scanner and this helps a lot; the original did not do this so you basically had to choose between taking a lot of damage or scanning a bounty. There are some areas where you can scan your bounties from afar when they’re not yet aware of your presence but in other areas your bounties will just start shooting and ask questions later. Scanning bounties also breaks the flow of the game a bit. I’d much prefer if each of these bounties were something like side missions with their own little stories.
@Leonidas_MK2
@Leonidas_MK2 Месяц назад
@@somenobody987 I owned the original and have the PS4 port that was released a few years ago so I know how bad it was. I’m not saying that it’s not annoying but it’s definitely not something that is just tacked on. The game is titled bounty hunter for a reason. Plus, if you know where the bounties are in each level, then scanning them isn’t bad. Also, you can quickly mark the bounty by spamming the fire button as soon as you activate the ID Scanner.
@somenobody987
@somenobody987 Месяц назад
@@Leonidas_MK2 If you have to know where the bounties are in order to effectively tag them, then it’s bad gameplay design. I always found the tagging process quite obtrusive because it interrupts the flow. This game can be very fun if you’re doing a quick speed run and bounty tagging always felt like an afterthought to me.
@Leonidas_MK2
@Leonidas_MK2 Месяц назад
@@somenobody987 You forget that this game was released 22 years ago when technology wasn’t as advanced as it is today so the devs had limited console space to work with for this game at that timezone. Also, knowing where the bounties are in the game is easy to learn by either trial and error or by doing a RU-vid search. If you think it’s an afterthought, then you’re not really appreciating the game for what it is. Also it does not interrupt the flow; almost every bounty is located on the path you take to complete the level so I don’t see how that interrupts the flow of the game. If bounties were all located in areas where you don’t need to go to complete the level, then I would understand your point about the game flow interruption. The game is fun regardless, not only when speed running.
@somenobody987
@somenobody987 Месяц назад
@@Leonidas_MK2Oh I appreciate the game alright; it's just a minor complaint of mine. Still, the bounty scanning mechanic does interrupt the flow. The game throws batches of enemies against you and after a while you get accustomed to clearing area after area. Stopping to locate and scan moving enemies is just not very engaging. This mechanic is a product of its time and I don’t fault it for it; still, it bears repeating that it’s not engaging, and that it feels like a chore. I’d prefer if some missions had three bounties instead of fifteen, where each involved a little detective work to locate. But again, this is a game from the early 00s, and as such it’s good as it is. But this bounty scanning mechanic felt weary back then, and it definitely feels dated today.

I remember loving this game. Idk why because its just awful. The infinite respawning enemies is literally a deal breaker to not finish this game. The game unkindly persuades you to speedrun the game. You can literally kill a squad of enemies, turn your camera 360 degrees and… guess whos baaaaaack???!!!
