In these rare interviews filmed right before the release of Star Wars in 1977 (Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope), Carrie Fisher talks about Star Wars, Princess Leia, Hollywood Kids, studying in London, Los Angeles and New York City.
Mark Hamill talks about getting his start in television, filming Star Wars in England and Africa, Luke Skywalker, George Lucas, the process of making Star Wars, Star Wars special effects, and upcoming projects.
Harrison Ford, Han Solo, talks about working with George Lucas on Star Wars, performing in the stage play John Brown's Body at Laguna Beach Playhouse, working as an actor, working as a carpenter, filming 1970s films Apocalypse Now and Heroes and working as an actor. He is still a few years away from his debut as Indiana Jones.
From 1974 to 2000, Canada’s Brian Linehan conducted thousands of in-depth interviews with the greatest actors and directors from over 60 years of film history. His programs City Lights and Linehan have not been seen since they first aired and are now available for the first time for licensing. Linehan, a stylishly gifted broadcaster, meticulously did all his own research and that, coupled with his knowledge and passion about film and filmmaking, puts him in a class all by himself.
With 20,000 hours of music footage spanning 90 years and thousands of hours of in-depth interviews with the 20th century’s icons of Film and Television, Politics, Comedy, Literature, Art, Science, Fashion and Sports, Reelin’ In The Years Productions is now the World’s Premier Source For Footage Of Musical Artists, Entertainers & History Makers.

Brian Linehan, who passed away in 2004, left his entire estate to The Brian Linehan Charitable Foundation to provide training, work opportunities and promotion for young actors of exceptional talent. All of the income of his Foundation is donated to not-for-profit institutions for that purpose. In the decade since his death, recipients of the Foundation’s support have included extraordinary young actors affiliated with the Canadian Film Centre, The National Screen Institute of Canada, the Stratford Shakespearean Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival, which, since Brian's passing, has preserved and housed Brian's personal archive and tape library.

Male celebrities usually hold eye contact with interviewers for 2 or 3 seconds at a time with long intervals of looking elsewhere in between. But Mark locks eye contact for extended periods. This interviewer is intelligent, informed, and knows a hell of a lot about his subjects. The one thing he lacks is a sense of form. His interviews are a lot of random questions that don't lead his subjects progressively from one related topic to another - so they seem a bit startled at times by the sudden switch of focus. Hamill is even surprised that their time is up, even though seven minutes is a fairly usual slot for this kind of interview. If Linehan had led him naturally to a conclusion, Hamill could have seen it coming, and finished with some kind of summation. But that's all denied - a shame because these years will never come again.
@jaywilson4520
@jaywilson4520 11 месяцев назад
Brian Linehan wasn't the typical interviewer. He was meticulously prepared and did his homework on each subject. He engaged in conversation, rather than formulaic interviews. The reason why Hamill was so surprised that the interview was over because he was engaged in an interesting conversation that he enjoyed. The other thing about the seemingly random questions is that by varying the questions, going from professional to personal and back again, he kept the subject slightly off balance so as to provoke genuine reactions and answers. If the subject is too prepared, you don't get as genuine an answer. And Linehan was very skilled at how he did it - never alienating the subject, but engaging them. Look at how he got Harrison Ford to open up personally like he did - that's a rare feat, and Ford was notoriously more difficult an interview in his younger years than when he got older. Not coincidentally, Linehan was a favorite by many celebrities for his interviews - not because he was easy, but because the conversations were deeper and more interesting.

Interesting how Carrie Fisher says “Its time for that anti-hero thing to take a back seat” when now lots of films are going back to that now. And like she also says, films are meant for escape. Interesting how a lot of films are unfortunately not doing that anymore too.

This looks like it was already after Mark's car accident, but he was still a handsome devil after surgery.

Id say it was before the accident cause he looks so fresh

@@lucaswilliams4476 I recall that he actually got into the accident not long before they wrapped principal photography on A New Hope (then just called "Star Wars"). Every interview to promote it was post-accident. The differences are subtle when he was still this young, but it's the look of his upper lip that's the most noticeable difference.

6:40 How ironic that the current writers of Star Wars don't get this very simple point. The movies would be much better if they did.

Man, Carrie is pretty unaffected here, unscripted; and oh so lovely.

The guy who interviews this legends is terrible ,it seems he tries to embarras his subjects,Harrison didn't like hiyoungm especially the joke about the names of his children, this guy I've seen on RU-vid interviewing a very young Arnold Schwarzenegger, before Conan, in 1978 ,and Arnold had the guy completely dominated ,it was so Funny to see ,he couldn't throw Arnold,

You can go back to any year and there were big movies that had come out in the past couple years. It's not mind boggling.
