Happy Star Wars Day, everybody! Last year I discussed how I actually liked Jar-Jar Binks and the Phantom Menace. Unfortunately I have to follow it up this year with the fact I DON'T like Attack of the Clones.

Are we still here in pre 2011? Can we let George be?

I just felt it was fair to discuss Episode 2 after praising Episode 1 last year.

Enjoyed your video. As a teen who only ever had the OT, I gobbled up the prequels. But now, I can't bring myself to watch them anymore. I ignore the sequels too. 4-6, Rogue One, and Andor are peak Star Wars for me, with most of Mando and Solo still being fun and entertaining. I always assumed the shapeshifting assassin's face changed when it died because it was returning to its default looks. Changing your appearance takes concentration and effort. So when you lose that or get knocked unconscious or something, you'll revert back to your normal looks. I feel like we've seen that with Mystique several times. That's just my take.

Thanks for watching! I also really looked forward to the prequels back in the day and as mentioned last year I actually quite liked Phantom Menace. Alas Clones was just a disappointment in my eyes but Lucas seemed to have painted himself into a corner with only having two movies to get so much done before Episode 4 so I guess I can't really blame him. Overall I didn't mind Solo and Mando isn't terrible either.

attack of the clones is definitely my least favourite star wars film. one thing that helps me enjoy it more when i watch it is pretending it's 5 episodes of the clone wars TV show stitched together. if you look for them there are points where it feels like one episode ends and the next begins (for example you could imagine the jedi council meeting with the chancellor as the start of episode 2) thinking about it in this way kinda resets your brain a bit every 22-30 minutes even if you're not pausing. it makes the film more palatable. also, if you really want to know more about dooku, you don't need the deep articles to give you an understanding of who dooku is. episodes 2 through 4 of the show tales of the jedi has a great story about dooku's disenchantment with the jedi and how he cuts ties with the order. all three episodes together total to about 45 minutes. even as a standalone piece, it's a pretty great star wars story. the CGI-animated media has added some depth to really appreciate dooku beyond christopher lee being a good actor.

Glad I'm not alone in this josh. It's handy to know things like the animated Clone Wars show fill in some much-needed gaps but even modern Disney Star Wars has the same problem: don't overload one story in such a way that we need to research in our own time what's going on, I don't want homework.
@joshthenesnerd
@joshthenesnerd 4 месяца назад
@@DowntheRabbitHole0 thankfully, there's less homework than there was because of the 2014 expanded media timeline reset. and the people making the screen-media don't care about the print media. i don't have to read 19 books and 12 years of comics to understand what's going on with what i'm watching on TV. however, if you want some decent star wars, the clone wars is consistently good after the halfway point of season 2 (and keeps getting better season by season). it also happens to be the source of all the important conflict going on in TV star wars but that's not why i'm recommending it.

Oh yeah, Star Wars (New Hope) was fantastic, Empire Strikes Back was BETTER! ... Then.. 😐 Fast forward to years later.. It's Star Wars day.. every year that goes by, every single new cash grab reminds me just how much i don't like Star Wars any longer.. 😢 That being said, i Loved this video! I hope that doesn't seem rushed! 😂

Totally with you, man. There have been a few not-aweful things made for Star Wars recently but nothing that even comes close to the original trilogy. Should I one day go into the Disney dumpster fire?

I couldn't agree more. Did no one talk to Lucas about just how bland and generic the word Clone is? He could have called it Attack of the Cucumbers and it wouldn't have made a difference. Lucas should have made the sequels back in the 90's when all of his lead actors were still in their prime. The prequels are what Disney should have been making in the last few years. Especially since they seem like Disney movies. And the Phantom Menace - yeah - where was the phantomy menace in that movie? Granted its been decades since I've seen it but I don't recall who the bad guy was. If it was supposed to be Darth Maul then that was one of biggest let downs since Boba Fett in Return of the Jedi. May the 4th be with you always. At least from the first 2.5 films. PS: If your culture has mastered faster than light travel, you should be advanced enough to put wheels on luggage.
@DowntheRabbitHole0
@DowntheRabbitHole0 4 месяца назад
My bet, Jerry, is Lucas originally chose the word Clone cuz it sounded cool phonetically without intending it to mean duplicated organisms. But with needing to squeeze a lot into two movies before New Hope happens, and with the stormtroopers already established as being clones, he likely merged them together. Remind me again about the luggage without wheels? I'm puzzled
@jdmcdonnell71
@jdmcdonnell71 4 месяца назад
@@DowntheRabbitHole0 It's not my imagination! (for a minute there I was starting to think it was :-) but in Attack of the Clones Anakin helps carry Padme's luggage. In a world of flying cars and robots (and R2-D2 just rolls up behind them) people are still carrying their own luggage and none of it has wheels on it. That little detail has always stuck in my craw as something terribly wrong about the prequels. It's like they cared so much about the look of the thing they forgot to care about the thing itself, so there are all these little details that don't make any sense and can be overlooked but help to kill the believability of what is going on. You don't doubt a new hope, but there are many reasons to doubt the prequels. That and Hayden Christensen is just an eyesore. His acting is not the worst, but he himself just looks like a brown blob. He has this fake tan and his hair is this weird frizzy mass of muddy brown brillo. It almost looks like he is wearing a prosthetic forehead for some reason. Do they have a Supercuts in space? Is that what it is? It looks like he has a mall cut. I am just a very detail orientated person Kevin, that's what it comes down to. Here's a link to them carrying luggage. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eqm9Zz7-XV4.htmlsi=ItiymIdv5b-WX8kA&t=199

Interesting video Kev, weirdly I really enjoyed Attack of the Clones back in the day but find it hard to watch now. Like you say there are some decent parts to the movie but overall it is a hard watch and not a movie I have revisited in years. Anyway hope life is good and enjoy your Sunday.

Thanks Wee Bob. Everyone has unique takes on these films and they're all valid. I was quite surprised that my appreciation of Jar-Jar Binks last Star Wars day went down with such good comments. He's certainly a divisive character. I don't normally post stuff I don't like but it seemed only fair to talk about Episode 2 and my disregard for its foibles.

The Phantom Menace I liked for Darth Maul, Revenge of the Sith has merit. Attack of the Clones...mhhmmm, no. The pap romance in the middle kind of jarring.

Reluctantly have to entirely agree with you in this one (although Phantom Menace was garbage too! Another debate there!). I remember feeling a similar poor-mans Blade Runner vibe early on, Count Dooku confusion. Painfully cringworthy 'romantic' frolicking scene, etc. Whiny Anakin was a PITA, but arguably a flash-forward to Luke's later infamous "power converters" line? Didn't mind the R2 flying, even in the original trilogy he was full of surprises - hidden lightsabre storage space for instance? Ultimately I think I can sum this film up by the fact I had a big argument with my wife for taking through the Kenobi Vs Jango Fett fight scene, where she was asking "who is Jango Fett. What's he doing there? Where are they?" - "SHUT UP THIS IS THE ONLY GOOD SCENE IN THE ENTIRE MOVIE" I shouted. And I think that's the problem right there. It is. This film was a massive disappointment. From the throwaway line in Episode 4 about the 'Clone Wars' we'd been waiting decades for a "Clone Wars" film. And we got this pile of steaming Bantha poo. What a missed opportunity.

Why does George insist on writing the dialogue when he knows he is so bad at it? He doesn't do sound effects, he has Ben Burtt for that. He doesn't do the music. He has John Williams. So why does he need to write bad dialogue? Was it a cost cutting issue, since he spent so much money on his digital cameras? I never liked this movie either.

I love what George was doing in moving the technology forward with all of these movies but dialogue was definitely never his strong suit. Just ask Harrison Ford LOL
