People say this is the worst crawl but this is my favorite personally. I adore how complex and mature they made it with politics and taxes and trade routes. It feels like a real world and not just “laser gun go boom”.
@@NadaCero then clearly you don’t know Star Wars because no, it’s about political crisis, betrayal, family, freedom, tyranny, religion, and what it means to be a good person all on the backdrop of a sci-fi universe
@@minecraftmaniac84 God bless you, you wonderful, intelligent and good hearted human being. Thank you so much for your brilliant words - finally, someone who gets it! :)
I used to love Star Wars and I watched this movie way after it came out but me and my best friend loved it. We had toy lightsabers, we played angry birds on phone and it was the good times
*Star Wars theme blasts* Me: YES. *Title appears* Me: YES! *'Turmoil has engulfed the Galactic Republic'* Me: *Shrieks in orgasmic delight* *'The taxation of trade routes to outlying star systems is in dispute' Me: Wut.
I remember seeing this rerelease when it came out. Being able to see Star Wars in theaters was unheard of at the time for me and I thought I had missed any chance of seeing Star Wars in a movie theater
@Sam W I remember seeing not only All of the Prequel, and Sequel trilogies, Rogue One, and Solo, but My very first Star Wars memory was when I believe I was 4 years old, when My parents took me to see the 1997 Special Edition re-releases in theaters. So i guess I you could say, I saw ALL the star wars movies in theaters.
It was may 25th 1977. I was almost 11 yo when me and my brother went to the movies on a Wednesday before memorial day to watch Star Wars. We thought it was just another Si-Fi B-movie, with bad costumes and a lot of spaceships hanging from nylon wires, but we had nothing better to do that day. There were less than 20 people in line to buy the ticket, inside, over one quarter of theater was empty. We read the intro crawler and the screen became black with thousands of little stars tilting until a spaceship firing lasers through its back went right over our head, each ray of those bright red lights hitting our eyes made us blink and then as we were readjusting our sight to the blackness of the space on the screen... the tip of the star destroyer showed up. As it was going further, our jaws dropped. The ship was getting wider and wider as our jaws dropped lower and lower. Every piece of popcorn on its way to a mouth stopped midway. It was like the temperature in the theater had dropped to a frozen degree. The only thing moving was on the screen, the destroyer going over our heads, it was huge, endless and the sound was so real I felt my hair was moving. Never in our lives we saw anything like it. Till this day, it was the most amazing experience of all my childhood. Forty four years have gone by, and I still remember it as if it was last week.
I would have just turned 6. I remember being excited and engulfed in the hype of the film but being 6 I don't think I really understood. I took it for granted. Pretty cool being able to say we were there. Your depiction is great.
@@Skalopulton301 for me I've only seen The Force Awakens, Rouge One, The Last Jedi, Solo a Star Wars story and The Rise of Skywalker in cinemas, never saw any of the others in cinemas (I was born in 1998).
It was the most hyped thing of all time. Although fan reaction to the movie was mixed. It didn’t resonate with older fans but it sure as hell made an impression on young kids like myself and we could t get enough of it.
@@alexandertheresurrection2810 Most hyped up, no doubt. They had it advertised on pretty much everything: Toys, video games, backpacks, lunch boxes, drinking cups like Pepsi, and fast food restaurants like Pizza Hut, KFC, and Taco Bell.
I’m shocked at how this never got a 3D Blu Ray release, and the Lucasfilm logo from that version never got a high quality rip. That logo IMO is way better than the current silver logo.
As a kid:Politics is boring give me the lightsaber battle As an adult:Politics in Star Wars are cool you can see the rise of Palpatine and the fall of the republic and jedi order with that
Prequels were mirrors of the Bush Era and Palpatine gain of power liteally a mirror of the Patrioct Act. Period. But hey people hate them cause ''real Star Wars is Disney Marvel style bad jokes and boom crash phew phew bang bang!''
@@christianalcantarast7584 sure, but that was only before Empire Strikes Back, which was released as Episode V from the get go, well, released, so what is that, 3 years?
@@seroujghazarian6343, I'm just saying about Star Wars (1977) not being the first movie chronologically, but the first one released here, and Lucas at that time didn't even know it was going to continue.
THIS is proper worldbuilding, something the Sequel Trilogy completely lacks. These paragraphs alone describe a more cohesive world than all 3 Disney movies combined.
@@Nonexistent097it perfectly sets up the world: a bureaucratic Republic using Jedi knights to deal with a seemingly simple problem that's hiding something sinister underneath. You then realize Palpatine engineered the situation to get elected Chancellor. How does this not make sense?
This is definitely my least favourite crawl of the series. Through adult eyes, I actually find some of the later political scenes quite interesting, but starting the film with talk of taxation, trade routes, and congress is, in my opinion, very deflating, and I think it could definitely have benefited from a rewrite.
The whole story arc of the prequel trilogy is the Republic’s corruption and transformation into the Empire, so starting the story with turmoil in the Republic actually seems pretty sensible to me. People want these to just be dumb action movies but Lucas actually had a vision for this stuff.
If you think that's what Star Wars is all about, then you really are lost. The prequel trilogy actually expanded the lore of the universe and gave us plenty of new, original planets, much unlike the sequel trilogy.
@@bloocheeseformaboi881 I hate to tell you this, but the prequels aren't that complex. they're just dumb action movies where the characters motivations are simplistic, when people say the prequels are boring they mean that the characters aren't compelling even though they have the potential to be. if the acting is bad and the dialogue worse, than why should you care if Anakin wins the podrace, or if he gets together with padme, or turns to the dark side? Also politics aren't boring, the politics in the prequels are because like the characters and story, they lack convincing emotions.
Okay, the Sequel Trilogy may have "better acting" but the story is still shit. You can't have one over the other. I can't care about the characters if I can't care about the story. The Original Trilogy is the balance between the two. IT ended the story of the "Skywalker Saga". If Disney decides Rey shouldn't actually be a biological Skywalker even if she calls herself one and Lucas decides Jedi can't have kids, what's the point of continuing the story in the first place? It was always about Anakin, who is obviously dead.
@@bloocheeseformaboi881 Prequels: bad story, bad acting, bad filmmaking. Sequels: bad story, better acting, competent direction at least half the time. now use your brain and tell me which is better.
Interesting that the 3D version was the base for the Disney+ release, yet they reverted to the original logo sequence (minus the "News Media Company" text and using the Disney era Lucasfilm intro)
Wait, if the Trade Federation is trying to 'resolve' the tax dispute, why are they trying to take over Naboo? Wouldn't it have been better to state that they are 'exploiting' the crisis to take over Naboo? You know, because they're a greedy corporation who want to rake in profits?
@@thesalandarian3314 But that's what it says in the text crawl. I mean, why would a corporation need to take over a country? Wouldn't they be more interested in selling their battledroid technology? Point is, this is bad writing from the text scrawl onward.
@@thesalandarian3314 That's not what I mean. Why would the Trade Federation spend money on a military force to make profits? They would need the cooperation from the Republic so they don't have to worry about losing money. Wars for corporations aren't profitable unless you sell weapons, which is the opposite of what the Federation is doing.
CosmoShidan they didn’t want cooperation with the republic they only joined to look noble as it was ethical they didn’t want want the republic gave them and wanted their own resources and profit for their own expansion and independence and wanted to leave the senate to be an independent force again.
I’m mad at the Star Wars website The Phantom Menace quiz. It asked for the first word of the title crawl. I said “The”, it says “Turmoil”, movie says “Episode”.
I am! I’m ready for it, definitely my least favorite of the prequels, but it’s going to be a good time seeing it in theaters with my Dad!!! POD RACING AND DUEL OF THE FATES!!!!
20th Century Fox (Big Momma's House 3 Like Father Like Son) [Shortened Version] Lucasfilm Ltd (Strange Magic) [Still Version And His Without Sand Magic Pink As Well As Another Without Gold And He Was Replaced By B&W Gray Over Light Words In The Green]
Are the rebel scum tax invading? I thought paying taxes is just normal. "Tax the rich". Every villain in every movie doesn't understand they are the bad guys. Who is the bad guy here? "The taxation of trade routes to outlying star systems is in dispute". Are the rebel scum tax invading? I thought paying taxes is just normal.
that opening crawl is an absolute mess with the political jargon and a lot of fluff thrown in. easily the worst introduction of all the films (although episode 2 gets my vote for worst film).
Scorpion's Apprentice are we just talking prequels because The Last Jedi is by far the worst Star Wars film. At least Attack of the Clones was fun to watch
@@dino988 all 9 films. i found episode 2 to be pretty uneventful in the first 2 acts. the last jedi is flawed, but not the worst movie. its biggest problems were its organization and unnecessary moments such as with the casino planet and code breaker. luke's character change did kind of make sense.
Scorpion's Apprentice like ok u bring ur kids into theater to watch this, do u expect them to understand this and not fall asleep? And funnier thing is George Lucas said SW is for kids when his prequels contained a LOT of boring political plot lines, how ironic
